Guys, I've been putting this off, but cant any longer. I have been trying to find the time, and just dont have it, to commish this league this year. It is my sincere hope, that another can come forward and take the reins. I truly enjoy the format and the unique challenges it presents and hope you do as well.
So in short...who has the time and is willing to take the league and run with it?
I am in for playing this year and possibly taking the reins of commissioner, with some help and input of course. The one thing I would have a problem with is using AOL's fantasy site. ESPN is now offering Auction leagues. Not sure about how the set up works for that but I'd advocate for us to use the Rotoguru Boards like last year for the draft.
I do not like the AOL Leagues personally. I found them to take forever to load from page to page and the way you would set rosters was somewhat frustrating and confusing. I'd be for moving the league to either Yahoo or ESPN. I've never used CBS Sportsline, but if a majority of the league was for moving it there then I could adapt. :)
If we choose to use AOL again I'll play, but I would prefer not to commish the league. I'd be willing to help whoever commishes keep track of the bids.

I will continue playing this year, but I don't think that it makes sense being a commish because I'm at least 6 hours ahead of you and can't follow the bidding you do in the afternoon.
I just clicked through the setup-options at ESPN. they pretty much support everything we need for our scoring. compared to last year some small scoring changes are required for short FGs and Points Allowed. all the rest is possible, even our division setup (3 divisions with 4 teams). its free too. they have an option for a Auction Draft, but only if you do it live. I doubt that a live draft can last 3 to 4 weeks.

The only thing ESPN doesn't have is a FA bidding system like AOL had. We could easily still do that. If I'm commish I could set up an e-mail account (like gurubids@gmail.com or something) and we could e-mail our bids to that address and every Wednesday at noon I will check that account and award bids. I'd post everyone's bids on league's discussion board so you can all see. If you don't agree with that we can have a 3rd party (friend of someone in the league) receive e-mails and then that person e-mails me the bids on Wednesday.
I just went to AOL and they have moved all of their fantasy games to Fleaflicker. I think some people on here have used that, but I don't know how that works so if we stay with AOL/Fleaflicker I'll still decline the commish duties. Yahoo and ESPN are my fortes. My friends leagues (we have NBA, NFL, and MLB dynasty leagues) have been running on ESPN for 3 years now and other than last year's baseball debacle it's been great for everything we've needed. Their keeper option is fantastic.
Also after looking at the posts, it seems this league has bounced around from site to site. Last year was my first year in it, but it seems like you've all used Yahoo, ESPN, and AOL. So you could probably decide which you like best.

The ESPN QA team regularly reads this board, so I recommend posting as much detail as possible here.
i plan on continuing as the commish for this league- Kyle i would be willing to have you co commish if you are interested.

RE 4: It's tough to explain the FA bidding system when I didn't fully understand how to use it, but I'll try my best.
At the end of the draft last year Sarge (the commish) put in the rosters and then put in how much money each team had left to bid on FAs. Each week there would be a way to queue your FA bids so that you could say I want to drop Player A and pick up Player B for $X. If I am outbid on player B I want to pick up Player C for $X. It allowed for 3 different options to be put in (I believe, it may have been more) and then at Noon each Wednesday the queues would be processed and the money would be deducted from each manager's pot of money.
Sarge also had an option to change how much money each player had in their pot due to fines or dropped players that would return money (Dropping a player prior to kickoff of week 6, returns 1/2 that players salary, rounded down.)
RE 5: Must have missed you saying you'd take over, so I'll be glad to help out where needed.
Kyle- I didnt say it- I have been commish of this league since it started- then Sarge volunteered to help and i was real busy so I let him run it, but i kept up as much as i could.

Kyle- If you want you can take the lead on this- I just found out today that I am going need to have surgery and I will be away for a period of time- I will still help out as much as possible with bids and keeping people on task but I dont know if I can commit to commishing.

Here's the list of managers I've found from last year:
If you are in could you please check in? When you check in could you either leave your e-mail address or e-mail me just so I have it for our "records".
Last year we started the draft Monday, August 6th and finished on Tuesday, September 4th. The season started on Thursday, September 6th.
This year the season starts on Thursday, September 4th. That means we'd have to start the draft August 4th.
We held a mock draft starting on July 23rd. We never finished it but that wasn't too important. Did we want to hold another Mock Draft? If so we'd probably want to start that either next week or the following week.

Assuming all of the managers return, then all will have experienced this method of draft alreay, which I think would do away with the need for a mock. Last season IIRC, we gathered in multiple 1st time managers for the league and the auction format was new to many. The mock, gave them an opportunity to see what does/doesnt work and how to participate.

Unfortunately I will not be able to participate this year as I'm having to cut back on the number of leagues I'm in due to time constraints. Good luck going forward and hopefully I will be able to get back in sometime in the future.
Sent an e-mail to the 2 remaining managers, GolfFreak and Scarecrow to let them know to check in.

Also I am assuming the e-mails you used in these posts are your correct e-mail and are the primary you would like to use for this league.
Which site would you all prefer in order of preference to use this year?
Fleaflicker- AOL switched fantasy sports there this year. We used AOL last year, but I personally don't know Fleaflicker. If you have first hand (or second hand) experience with this site please tell us how it was.
Yahoo- Has been used before in this league. I know everyone has used Yahoo for fantasy sports, it's the grandfather of fantasy sports. But Yahoo can't do divisions like we had last year. I also don't believe it'll allow you to set the playoffs.
ESPN- We can do divisions, we can do playoffs how I want to set them, there may have to be some scoring tweaks with the kicking and defense, but I believe we can overcome that.
Just rank them in order of what you would prefer. I'll post mine after everyone has voted so I don't sway any votes. I'll also break any ties if there is any.

we've done this in the past Tree, on line here at rotoguru....each manager gets $200 and that is their ANNUAL salary cap. FAs arent free, so you cant go out and spend your whole $200 in the initial auction and manning of your roster. Injuries happen etc etc. You can almost certainly look back at past threads and see how it works for the most part, though I doubt anyone is against the idea of 2 or 3 day mock to get you somewhat acclimated.
Also, managers get 'fined', if they submit bids that would leave them violating their salary cap, and THAT can be deadly. You MUST staff a full 16 man (IIRC) roster and every player has a minimum salary of $1. So if you have 8 guys on your roster for ex, and have $60 left, then go out and submit bids on 4 guys that add upto $57...you just violated the cap and get fined $5. (8+4 =12 leaving 4 slots to fill but 60-57 =3 leaving with not enough money to pay them all)
I was peeking in to your thread and saw the news about fleaflicker. I've used it for leagues the past two years and love it. I just looked and sure enough it transferred my aol leagues to fleaflicker. I already decided last season that I would never use aol again, so this is a great change. You guys should log in and check it out. Lots of flexibility in setting up unique scoring rules, the live scoring has worked well the past two years, and it's free.

Anyone got anymore suggestions? Or if you're a stalker (I have a feeling we have a couple, since 28 people have viewed in the last 24 hours) and wanted to play and liked the format, please step up.

Still waiting for Wiggs and Jackhammers. Once they sign up I'll be able to set up the schedule. It should be able to automatically do it from what I see, but I can't play with it until everyone logs in.
If you guys could double check all the rules and let me know yea or nea if they look good. It also looks like I'm going to have to process the bids for weekly bids myself. I don't see any option for it in the Commish Controls. Sarge you might be able check to see if there's an option that you had to change in last year's league. If not I'll set up an e-mail address that we can send our bids to and each Wednesday I'll process that.
Also are there any rules changes from last year? I have it set up identically from last years league (I believe) and we'll run the same bid process for FAs as last year (IE: Injury Priority, and only 1 pickup per week [injury priority is a FA pickup]) Was there anything that we wanted to change from last year? It seemed to be set up to near perfection, so I wouldn't say "We need to change Rule X".
Finally, starting the draft: I'm leaning towards starting a little earlier than last years. Like the 30th. If you guys want to start around the same year we could wait until August 4th. I will be able to be here the whole draft. No vacations planned, or able to be taken. If we start earlier I'll have to ask someone to take on Friday the 1st, as I'll be at Lollapalooza (whoo!) but other than that I'll be around. If you are going to be away at any point please let us know in advanced. What is the league's preference for starting?
Wednesday July 30th or Monday August 4th?

One of the clear "pluses" to AOL lost year, was the sites ability to "blindly" process the weekly FA bidding scenarios. HUGE, H-U-G-E difference maker in smoothing out the process. (Did I say and make clear, that alone was of IMMENSE value to me as commish? lol)

Sarges new strategy...let Kyle bump-bid and have a roster with 8 WRs, no RBs/QBs/TEs and watch him scramble trying to find $1-$5 players so he doesnt bust his salary cap.

Earlier the better. I wont be around on the weekends much at all. I forget how we handled weekend bidding. I would prefer to take a break or at least a very long bid winning period

We took weekends off, if I recall correctly. Which I appreciated, both from a family standpoint and from a "take a breather to figure out where things were at" standpoint.

as I recall, bidding and the clock froze as of midnight eastern on Fri and started again at 08:00 Monday. I could be off a little but seems to me that s how we'd worked it in the past.

I know for sure that the clock stopped on Friday and started up Monday (oh how many weekends I worried over players) and I believe it was Midnight to 8 AM EST. YR I believe that'd be 6 am-2pm your time, correct? If the clock stopping at this time doesn't work we'll try to get something that works for everyone. Even if it's 11:15pm-7:45 am! ;)

+6 hours for me (6am - 2pm). I should have less problems this year because during the draft I will watch plenty of Olympics on TV, even if it is 4am for me.
I did ok the last few years and I will do ok this year. I will have more problems with preparing for the draft because I have not started yet. at least for the first days of the Auction this should be not a huge problem because I only need to research the players that are on the table. and after next week I will be prepared. because of that I have no preference on when to start.
if I need to put someone on the table today it would be Brett Favre at $1, only to see if he still gets some love in this league.

lmao...pass (might be tempted to bid $2...but he'd have to sign with a team first...and NOT Miami either.)

So we started already with Farve?
A little advance warning would have been nice.

We're starting next Wednesday WK. I'll send out an e-mail this weekend and give everyone a 24 hour until auction notice.
Sarge: Where did you pull the rankings for your first 12 on the board. If I remember correctly you did 1- 2nd rounder, 4- 3rd rounds, 4- 4th rounders, 3- 5th rounders. Should I do something like that, or should I ask everyone to e-mail me 2 names, a 1st choice and and 2nd choice. If your 1st choice is taken then I'll put your 2nd choice up. Which you guys want to do?

I like the way Sarge did it last year so would vote for that format for the initial offering of players.

I'm agree. I'd say pull a random mock draft, and mix and match semi-randomly (try to get a couple at each major position though, IMO).

I also like the "Sarge" approach. The timing of when players are put up for bid is important in an auction league.
There are mock drafts starting to pop up, pick 1 and post a player from each round.
I wonder if I'll blow all of my money on 2-3 players and be left bidding for scrubs and rejects like the last 3 years. Granted I've made the play-offs twice and one it all once.

what I did in the past, was pull from 3 or 4 different mock drafts. Then from ea ones 3rd rd I'd pull a total of 1/2 the names and then from either the 2nd or the 4th rds, pull the other half.
Mock Draft A 3rd rd yields 2 names Mock Draft B 3rd rd yields 2 names Mock Draft C 3rd rd yields 2 names
Mock Draft A 2nd rd yields 1 name Mock Draft B 2nd rd yields 1 name Mock Draft C 2nd rd yields 1 name
Mock Draft A 4th rd yields 1 name Mock Draft B 4th rd yields 1 name Mock Draft C 4th rd yields 1 name
or some random process VERY much along those lines.

Just a reminder, the auction draft starts tomorrow at 8 am. I'll post the players who will be on the board a little later tonight, I have to find out who they will be. :)
Hope you all are ready, it should be fun as always!
not ready yet, but I checked if my information sources from last year are still there and already providing information for the upcoming season. I now need to sum up all that info into one giant excel. should be ready by Friday.
