I am going to have sporadic access over the weekend, and since it looks like MC will be starting the draft on an un-timed basis at some point this weekend, I am comfortable making my first pick on the forum and having MC put it in once he launches the draft. As I am sure this is a shock to no one, I will be taking:

1.01 Joseph Addai

The only other picks we have in the 1st round are:

1.02 for Boikin
1.03 for Hubble
1.07 for Doug
1.09 for Goatlocker

If boikin wants to make his pick, I am sure this is fine. I am also sure it's fine if he wants to wait until the draft has been launched.

I will also note that we only have 5 picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds as well:

2.01 Leggestand
2.06 Taxman
2.07 Doug
2.11 Guru
2.13 Athletics Guy

3.03 Hubble
3.04 Da Bomb
3.07 Doug (3 picks in 3 rounds!)
3.11 Guru
3.14 IAC

After that we begin having 9-14 picks per round.

I love seeing the different strategies being used in who was kept. Definitely adds a lot to the complexity of this league.

Same here. I think this is much better than "just naming your top 5 players" and doing a standard re-draft for the leftovers.

I like it as well. Only at the last minute when I realized I wouldn't get an undrafted rookie from a team I am fanatical about, did I decide to keep Manning. I also considered Roy Williams getting tossed back to keep a couple 25th rounders but wasn't sure I would get improved value at that spot. It will be interesting to see who goes before that slot would have came up.

Ditto on watching the strategies.
Should be a very interesting draft.
And one other key is that most of us tend to THINK that we have a good idea of what others will do during the draft.

I only missed a few keepers.
Of course, I marked what I thought were potential keepers for each team, so I had more than 5 marked.

Will be fun as always.

I am looking at possibly trading my 2.01 pick (the 6th pick in the draft), depending on what transpires in the first five picks. I am looking for either (a) two pre 6th round picks - prefereably a 3/6 or a 4/5, or (b) a decent WR 2/3 plus a pre 5th round pick.

Send me an email if interested, and we can try and iron something out as the 2.01 pick approaches.

Addai was on my team before, but since I had the #1 pick, I knew I could keep someone else and just draft Addai...no sense in using him as a keeper if I have the #1 pick.

Advantage of the #1 pick in the first keeper year of this.
In essence gave him 6 keepers.

And he worked it the way I would have.

I just put the draft request through on Kafenatid. When I get the information I will post it in here.

legge, thanks a lot for keeping things together while I was on vacation.

boikin and Hubble have yet to log into the Fanball website judging by the "last visited" time stamps. When you guys get a chance please be sure to log into Fanball so we can clear up any potential access problems now.

Let's finalize the IR rule. I think everyone who spoke up agreed that it would be for one player only per season. The first question is whether to allow an IR slot for an NFL player placed on actual NFL IR only, or to allow a manager in our league to declare a player on IR regardless of his NFL status. I mean, an 8 or 10 week injury for us is essentially an IR proposition.

Related to that, I also believe the player on IR should not count as an available extra keeper: we stay with max 5 keepers. If you want to keep the IR player the following year, he counts as one of your 5. Agreed?

Welcome back, MC. I hope your trip went well and it was no problem helping out while you were gone. I'll be keeping the spreadsheet and making updates after the draft, after the season, and when keepers are declared each year for myself, so, I am fine with keeping that role going forward.

As for the IR rule, it looks like there are two questions we need answered, as I think we have agreed on the following:

1. an IR spot is warrented
2. each team can have only one IR spot (you can have more than 1 IR players, but you cannot have 2-3 extra roster spots for them; only 1).
3. an IR kept player counts of one of your 5 keepers

The questions that I think need to be answered until we have a majority are:

1. (a) Can any player be placed on IR if he is injured for 6+ consecutive weeks, or, (b) is our league going to follow the NFL's IR rule (season ending injury)?

2. (a) Should the IR rule be restricted to picks made in rounds 1-5, or, (b) should the IR rule be available to any player picked at any time?

My answers:

1. (b). I just think it's too hard to administer anyone who is injured and not on IR. Marvin Harrison comes to mind from last year, as he was day to day/week to week for 14 weeks. If we went with option (a), I think this type of scenario opens itself up to too many potential issues; i.e., if Harrison would of played in Week 14, could you play him if he was on your IR? Do you have to hold him on your bench for 6 games before you can transfer him to IR (at no point last season did it look like he was sitting out 6 consecutive games; until he did it). I just think we need to make the IR issue black and white so that everyone is on the same page and rules can't be "bent."

2. (a). All picks seems reasonable to me.

In post 19, I meant to say (b) in my response for question 1, so, right now the tally is:

1.
(a) = 3 (I think MC falls into that camp, and we can adjust this rule if the non-NFL IR version wins, as we'll need to do some final rule tweaking after the vote)
(b) = 3

2.
(a) = 1
(b) = 5

I was actually confused by legge's question. I thought we were saying if someone misses 6 games, they can go on IR even if they aren't officially on NFL IR (beacuse maybe they'll come back in RL playoffs, etc.)... which is useless as far as fantasy is concerned. And once on IR, player must stay there through end of fantasy season. Seems pretty black and white IMHO. *shrug*

It looks like the questions have passed a majority with:

1. a = 4 votes, b = 8 votes
2. a = 1 vote, b = 11 votes

So, the IR rule should look something like this:

IR:
Each team may have up to one player placed on IR, and this designation will tie directly to the NFL's IR list. A player on IR may be kept the following season, but it (a) will count as one of the maximum keepers allowed per the rules (currently 5) and (b) will maintain its appropriate keeper draft round. If a team places a player on IR, that team now has an extra roster spot available. If a team has more than one player on the NFL's IR list, the team may keep the excess IR players on its roster, but it will take up bench positions.

I think that makes it clear, but if there are any holes, feel free to amend.

Hopefully everyone has signed up for kafenatid, as I think we need to get this draft started in the near future. I know that we technically have 5 less rounds to worry about, but all picks still need to be input into kafenatid, meaning not that much time is really saved.

As an aside, everyone will need to make sure that multiple designated pickers are identified, and that free form is available to make it easier to insert keepers when they are up.

And we're off; thanks to MC for getting this started so quick after his vacation, as I am sure he had some other pressing items going on.

As the draft has commenced, just a reminder that everyone should do the following:

1. Designate multiple pickers to have access to your queue
2. Turn your queue to Available, at the very least when your keeper selections are coming up
3. Turn on Free Form to Available, or, put your keepers in your queue (in order).
4. Check this thread for players who have been kept, so, that we don't have duplicative picks that need fixed.
5. Add your players to your team in Fanball as you pick them.

We basically need to get through two rounds per day to complete the draft on time, which should be very doable, especially if how quickly people registered for kafenatid is any indication on how fast we'll draft.

Good luck to everyone and I'm looking forward to another fun year.

OK, here's where we stand.

Hubble's pick was properly recorded in this forum prior to his time expiring. However, this was not noticed until after a DP for Da Bomb made the next pick, taking Stewart.

The next non-keeper pick was Mendenhall, by Doug.

I can see the remaining names in Da Bomb's current queue, but what I don't know is whether Mendenhall might have been ranked second (behind Stewart) before Doug made his pick. However, there is evidence to suggest that Mendenhall was indeed his second choice, since his instructions above were to take a RB in round three, and there are no more RBs in his queue. Thus, if he had two RBs in his queue (which he would have needed to ensure getting one), Mendenhall must have been the second one.

If so, then I need to trade Mendenhall from Doug to Da Bomb, and then let Doug repick. After Doug, the next three picks are all keepers, and my 3.11 is the next open pick.

I'm going to try contacting both Da Bomb (who may be unavailable) and also Fred at kafenatid to attempt to confirm that Mendenhall was indeed the second name on Da Bomb's queue.

Doug, you should probably be prepared to repick.

Status update:

I emailed Fred at kafenatid to see if he can confirm that Mendenhall was in Da Bomb's queue. No response yet.

I emailed Da Bomb to ask him the same thing. No response yet.

I emailed Doug and told him to be prepared to repick, since it is highly likely that Mendenhall legitimately belongs to Da Bomb.

I turned the draft clock back on, just to make sure that no administrative functions (e.g., setting queues or DPs) are temporarily disabled. Since my pick is the next one due, I'll simply wait until I get a resolution before making my pick.

I heard from Fred at kafenatid. Unfortunately, he has no way to tell if a player was previously added to a queue. So we need to hear from Da Bomb.

Fortunately, Da Bomb has a current pick due in the RIFC (and no queue), so hopefully he'll be checking in shortly.

I also have not yet heard from Doug about a potential alternative pick.

Like you said, I think Da Bomb's pick HAS to be Mendenhall, based on his previous post of taking an RB (it sounded like no matter what he was getting an RB). But, it doesn't matter since we haven't heard from Doug on an alternate pick.

While we are at a standstill, though, Guru - can you process IAC's and my trade from earlier this year (IAC gets 7.01 and I get 19.14), if it hasn't been reflected already?

Thanks.

Man i feel bad... stupid dumb ISP. Thanks to Leggestand for emailing me... I got it on my Iphone and made my pick from memory via email to him.

It seems like kafenatid incoming email are blocked on my iphone... I'll check that out.

I was slightly surprised with the clock settings and also the speedy progress of a keeper league where only 5 picks/round are made. Went to bed little before 9pm yesterday and had no net access this morning so i was in a twilight zone and had no idea. Thanks again to Leggestand for warning me. Now i realize this would not have happened with a queue. So i have only myself to blame. I'll try not to hold this draft anymore.

While we're waiting...

I noticed that our rosters are somewhat of a shambles at Fanball. Some people have their keepers only, some have been adding updated picks, but four teams still have their entire rosters left from last year.

We probably should have just had the commish clear all roster before starting (remember this next year!), and then each picked up our own keepers, as the process of dropping players is tedious (one at a time), as I recall. However, now that 10 of us have already dropped our non-keepers, we really need the other four to complete that exercise - and everyone else to make timely pickups as we go along.

As a courtesy to Taxman, I'm going to pause the draft until 2:00, to give him a chance to repick. Otherwise, there are a lot of qeued picks lined up, and we'll shoot through the rest of round 6 in no time.

Technically, there is no need to pause the draft, however. The usual handling of an invalid pick is to keep the draft moving and let the pick be corrected whenever. But since so many picks are lined up, I'd like to give Taxman a short window to repair his pick. Regardless, I'll restart the draft around 2pm and start firing off the queued picks.

If Kafenatid were to upgrade to allow us to slot picks in appropriate spots before the draft, that would make this so much easier. It's been tough as it is.

Please remain vigilant and check the list of keepers before placing a guy on your queue or pulling the trigger to draft him! If you pick a kept player and no one notices, you will be the one who suffers when you lose the player and wind up making up the pick in round 24.

For the record, we're averaging just a little over 40 minutes per pick in this draft so far. That's exceptional - although probably aided by the significant number of keeper picks that have generally been added with minimal delay. On the other hand, we did have a few snafus that caused delays, so the keeper factor giveth and taketh away at times.

By comparison, an efficient Invitational league draft moves along at approx one hour per pick. So 40 min/pick is blazing. At this pace, we'll finish in another week.

Note to Challenger's designated pickers:

He asked me to try calling him today before making any picks, in case he had any second thoughts.

While I was just on the phone with him, I see that leggestand took the top name from his queue. Fortunately, that's what Challenger decided to do - although for a few minutes, he was leaning toward a different route.

So - no harm, no foul this time. But for today and tomorrow, please allow me to make the picks for Challenger, so that I have a chance to give him a phone call in advance.

In any event, I just tried to reach him by phone, but was not immediately available. OK, here's what we'll do. If someone decides to take Gary Brackett from here out, you'll need to choose Matt Schaub and then we'll just trade the two players between Taxman's team and your team. Unless Taxman takes him later.

Please be sure that if we're coming up on one of your keepers that he is on your queue (preferably at the top) and that you have the whole queue available for your DP's to pick from.

Unfortunately, if anyone had Brackett in their queue before Taxman took him, he will have disappeared from the queue. So we should probably avoid making any queued picks for awhile.

MC - you can simply go in and change Taxman's pick from Brackett to Schaub. But that still won't "repair" any queues that might have previously had Brackett in them.

Only a few people have available queues. I think by the beginning of round 13, we'll be safe to start picking from queues again. As Guru stated, though, we should proceed carefully with the remaining picks this round and ensure people are getting their top available player.

Just to avoid digging a deeper hole, I suggest the following:

My pick is next. Frankly, I'm not yet even sure what I'm doing with this next pick.

Challenger's pick follows mine. I was unable to reach him quickly this morning, and with the current Brackett situation, we really should not make his pick without giving him a chance to react. I might be able to reach him now, but with the current uncertainty regarding TB's pick, I'd rather wait.

Also, do we know if Doug had any interest in Brackett? I doubt it, given his actual pick, but you never know.

Overall, we are moving along very fast, with an expected completion on Aug 28 at this pace. Thus, I don't think we need to feel pressed to push the tempo.

Challenger should be home tonight - he thought by 7pm CT - so let's just wait for him to return and sort it out. To facilitate that, I'm going to delay my current pick for awhile. Hopefully in the meantime, we get the word from TB as to whether he had Brackett in his queue.

Sound like a plan?

I finally sat down to figure out what my pick should be. Since I had a keeper pick in round 12, it had been 2 rounds since I last had to think about it, so I essentially decided to wait until the time came.

Once I figured out where I stood, it looked like LB was my biggest need (I only had one so far), and when I looked at my rankings, guess who appeard on top: Gary Brackett! LOL

So I figured it was karma.

Challenger just called me to say he was home, so I decided to take Brackett and let the draft proceed. Challenger should be making his own pick shortly.

Hope he logs on soon or the next guys are ready to make their picks so we can keep this thing rolling along. I hate to see anyone get skipped almost as much as I hate to see the full clock used, but I won't start getting worried until it makes it back to him at the end of the 14th without him making up his pick.

Fun fact:
Counting all the keepers*, we've seen 24 QB's, 52 RB's, 57 WR's, 12 TE's, 6 DL's, 7 DB's, 29 LB's, and 12 DST's taken off the board up to this point.

*This includes all keepers even those not "selected" yet via kafenatid.

I'm headed back to work all day today so be sure to set up others as designated pickers if you haven't already.

The Kafenatid software gives us an estimated completion date of 30 August at 9:45 PM. We're doing fine with the draft time. The average pick is still right around 50 minutes. We still have 17 keepers to "draft" so please double check those names before you pull the trigger. Thanks!

Terrell Suggs

Ok guys, I have been looking at Suggs as a DL but in remembering the Ware issue of the 1st RIFC, I looked up his position listing on Fanball & Yahoo (where KKB pulls his player list IIRC) and they show DL. Then I checked the Ravens website and there he is listed as outside linebacker.

Ruling please? If the decision is LB, MC can you send in a request for a change? (Now watch someone else draft him instead of me.) ;>)

RE 170: Rule is... you use the player at the position that the site we use (fanball) lists him at. (When you pick him up) Ravens tried to franchise him as an LB, that's why he's listed on their site like that.

After the draft is over, I'll talk more about requesting position changes at Fanball (it's basically futile unless there's a lot of corroboration among many different leagues). Ultimately, as a practical matter, I don't want to get started administering players at positions they're not listed at. They changed Devin Hester to a WR. That seems to be an exception.

From a strategic standpoint, Challenger, wouldn't you want a LB that is listed as a DL, rather than a DL listed as an LB? With 3 Flex IDP spots, it shouldn't much matter, should it?

AG, Shaun Alexander isn't listed in Kafenatid, but he is listed in Fanball. Since you asked for him here, we can count that as your official pick and we'll just fill the draft spot at Kafenatid with Jeremy Zuttah from Tampa. He's at the bottom of the player list. Just be sure to pick up SA in Fanball.

And with that plus Ryan Grant, we're done.

That's not something I intended. I know most of you guys are writing pick rationales and recaps for the RIFC leagues, so I certainly don't want to overtax you.

The draft was very good considering the limitations we faced. Everyone is to be commended for sticking around as much as possible and setting queues. I know this is a busy time of year for a lot of people, and that makes our quick pace even more impressive.

Be ready for a claim period this Wednesday. Fanball is still set up to allow free agent claims, but I think that will change by tomorrow morning.

Since we generally adhere to RIFC rules when practicable, I've changed the settings at Fanball to allow Challenger to use Terrell Suggs as a DL. Since there's no setting for that specific circumstance, I have instead lifted the starting lineup minimum requirement for DL's (it's now 0) and increased the maximum for LB's to 5. That will allow Challenger to use Suggs despite Suggs being listed as a LB. It will also allow the other 13 of us to start too many LB's and not give you an error. So I'm going to have to review rosters before game time each week and ensure no one has an invalid lineup. The only one with an exemption is Challenger, so please be sure to keep starting a DL, LB, DB, and three flex IDP's. I don't want to have to make roster moves for someone, but if they have an invalid lineup and I can't get in touch with them, I will do it.

If Challenger ever drops Suggs, Suggs will revert to the position he is listed as for any other manager (or even Challenger) who might pick him up.

Also, I haven't seen any other players on our rosters change positions, but if they have you will need to let me know so that we can allow this rule to be applied to them as well.

Athletics Guy has placed Tom Brady on IR. As a reminder, please be sure to post in here or at a minimum e-mail me to let me know if you decide to IR someone. Because of the way the IR setting works on Fanball, I want to be sure everyone gets the word.

From Rotoworld.com

Sunday's scheduled game between the Texans and Ravens has been postponed until November 9. The Ravens and Texans will take their bye this week. According to profootballtalk.com, the Texans were unwilling to play the game in any place but Houston.

That seems fair, but the Bengals are now also affected by the situation. They'll visit the Texans on October 26 instead of taking their bye, which has been moved to November 9.

Funny, I was here thinking I had no Ravens/Texans except for the McClain who I p/u'd this week as a bk/up, then I checked my starters just for safety sake and lo & behold there this Suggs character!

My teams sucks and I completely fail at fantasy football. I'm going to blame Al Davis. My passion for fantasy football continues to dwindle each season as the Raiders continue to suck. I am open to any kind of trade offers that can help my team be more competitive.

I like Lance Moore; I picked him last year but there were too many guys in front of him on the depth chart. Now that he's getting a chance he's showing he can play well in the league. That was a decent pickup, TB.

I actually have 2 Raiders this year myself, but mine are doing pretty well so I can't be too bummed out.

I have to be honest, my passion for fantasy sports is gone. A decade ago I would have spent hours every night doing research, looking up stats, posting in the forum. These days I have a hard time putting 30 minutes into my team a week. This is my last season playing any fantasy sports. I will need to be replaced after this season.

Attention leggestand and Taxman: you guys both have players on a bye in your starting lineups. If you can't get to your teams for some reason, contact me or at least post in here if possible to let me know if you would like me to make any changes to your lineups. 5-minutes-prior-to-gametime rules are in effect, of course.

Arg...I could of sworn I set my lineup before I left to go out of town this weekend, and it looks like I may have given myself two losses because I didn't. The same thing happened in the RIFC, so, I don't know if I dreamt that I made changes, or if I forgot to hit submit. It doesn't help either when you go out of town and don't have any internet service. I didn't know places like that existed anymore.

I added Rashard Mendenhall to my team and placed him on IR.

Who did you drop on to waivers to sign him? I don't see any pick-up actions since you picked up Mendenhall but do see 24 other players on your roster, which would mean you would have had to have 25 players on your team before putting him on IR.

The system allows pickup of a player directly to IR. On the "Player Adds/Drops" Page, there is a pulldown menu that allows you to select whether the Free Agent goes to your bench or IR.

Doug, you have a bye week LB starting as of about 12:40 ET.

As a reminder, if anyone wants to leave contact information on the website (cell phone) that would be a great way for me to get ahold of you and inform you in person if you have a deficient starting lineup. Right now only GoatLocker and Taxman have numbers listed at the website.

[222] I know my comment is late, but I wasn't paying attention.

I'm sure that MC's pickup of Mendenhall was within the scope of our rules, but it seems contrary to the purpose and spirit. I'd like to suggest for next year that no team should be able to pick up a player who is already on IR and immediately stash him there. In fact, I'd prefer to see a rule that if you pick up a player who is already on the IR, you may not put him on your IR.

My opinion is that the IR spot is OK for use whenever you have a player on your roster who is on IR. I don't think it should be limited to players you had on your roster when they were designated IR by their NFL teams.

We can certainly put this to a vote. In the case of Mendenhall, Da Bomb was going to have to drop someone, because he had two players on NFL IR. Unless we plan to expand the number of IR slots on each team, I don't see a way to help out managers with that kind of misfortune.

Managers who don't lose anyone to IR during the course of the year should be able to derive some benefit from the IR rule other than a potential IR spot. Otherwise, aren't they being penalized for not experiencing injuries?

It is a tricky situation. I picked up Burleson when he was dropped and put him on my IR. Then Mendenhall got placed on the IR and I chose to drop him as I feel Burleson has a lot more value as a potential keeper taking up my last round pick than Mendenhall who would have cost me a 3rd. I had no doubt that someone would then pick him up and have the option of keeping him as a last round pick.
