Subject: RIFC AAA#1 Post all rationales in this thread

- Leader [501381415] Sun, Aug 17, 2008, 11:25
Please post all rationales in this thread in any order. Judy and I will edit them into the proper order on the official rationale thread. We'll give this a shot sans placeholders.
This thread will be for managers in the 2008 RotoGuru Invitational Football Challenge AAA#1 to provide the rationale for each pick.
Here are the ground rules: 1. Only managers in this league should post here. If you want to provide feedback (either from other league managers, or from those not in the league), put it in the discussion thread. (Non-conforming discussion in this thread will be deleted.)
2.We'll attempt to keep this thread 2 rounds behind the actual draft. With the lag, most comments should not have an impact on the draft in progress. However, if there are aspects of your pick that you feel need to be kept under wraps, feel free to protect that information. In particular, please avoid mentioning the names of any players who are still undrafted at that time of the post.
If possible, please post your (2 round lagged) comments at the time you make each pick. For example, you should post your comments for your round 1 pick when you make your round 3 selection. When your post is ready, simply post it here in any order. Judy and myself will handle the rest.
3. Once the draft is over, each manager is also encouraged to provide a general draft recap, at which time you can discuss your overall strategy, mention any undisclosed factors, comment on what worked out well and what didn't, etc.
Please use the following format:
1.01 Wilbert Montgomery, RB, PHIL Several sentences of rationale.
As part of your first round rationale, please comment on your selection of draft sequence.
Many have found it useful to write the rationale prior to making the pick. This was first suggested by Guru a few years ago and I do it as often as I'm able. I've rationaled myself into and out of several picks. Not sure if it helps make better picks, but it does help you keep up with the rationales and they are easier to write as you go through the process of deciding on a particular pick.

3.12 Edgerrin James, RB, ARI
When I came to the 3-4 turn, I knew I wanted another RB and WR with my next two picks. Based on eserel and Eville having picked only 1 RB at that point, I thought it would be best to go for the RB in Rd 3. My original thoughts for this Rd were that I'd be able to pick up a guy like Willie Parker or Thomas Jones at this spot, or even Earnest Graham. As Rd 3 progressed, Jones and Parker were quickly taken, which left we with Graham and Bush (who had fallen unexpectedly, and I really didn't expect to fall that far). Once my turn was up and those guys were all gone, I decided to pass up McFadden's potential for the consistency of Edge.
4.03 Wes Welker, WR, NWE
After my 3.12 pick, and knowing I wanted a WR in Rd 4, I queued up Holt, Welker, and Holmes, in that order. I was quite shocked to see Holt, Holmes, and also Bowe taken with the 4 picks after my 3.12, especially since the two drafters had only 1 RB between them at that time. I love Welker in this spot for what he can bring to my team, but I hate rooting for any Patriots, and now my top two WR both have byes in the same week, which could present a challenge.

3.11 Earnest Graham, RB, TB not many true starting RBs left: Graham, James, thats it. I better grab one here than in the next 2 rounds. 2nd tier WRs will still be available next round.
Graham will be starting for Tampa. They don't have a reliable QB, so they may run a lot. Dunn is in the mix, but I see him more as a short-yardage RB or receiver (like the now 4th RB in NE). he should net me around 1200 rushing yards with a TD in every other game. with a bit of receiving that adds up to 180pts. I'm not asking for more here.

3.07 Donovan McNabb QB EAGLES
This is back to my normal position. Because I do not have a pick in Round 4, and there will be 26 players pulled off the list until I pick next, I decided it was time for a QB, so that I could get a “good” one. I chose Donovan McNabb for three reasons: 1) he was one of the top ranked one left, 2) I believe that he is fully recovered from his injuries, and, of course, 3) I can watch him play every week! (Another girl thing, sigh.)

3.14 Torrie Holt WR STL
4.01 Santonio Holmes WR Pitt
I'm really needing a RB but my choice was basically take longshot RB's or get stud WR. I may regret this later but I'm going for the more sure thing in two strong WR. Actually I don't expect a much different selection on RB 27 picks from now.

4.04 Jason Witten, TE, DAL I have 2 RBs so it was either QB, WR or TE. After the first 5 QBs are gone the next 5 or so have equal value, so I pass on them. WR I liked here: Wes Welker and Anquan Boldin or the top TE Jason Witten. Welker was taken in front of me so it was either Witten or Boldin. A healthy Boldin should produce slightly more than Witten, but he is not healthy, at least not now. Boldin also has problems with his cheap contract and you never know where this ends. he may not give 100 percent for the cheap money. on the other side is Jason Witten. he has no known injury, the same top-QB, the same top RB and WR on his side, so opponents will not know whom to cover, which means if they are covering any of the other threats he will be open for the short or medium pass. he will come close to 1000 yards again, with a TD in every other game. good enough for a 4th round pick. I also hope that the others jump on the TE-train and select a few more TEs (Winslow, Gates, Gonzalez, maybe even (undrafted) and (undrafted)) until the draft makes it back to me to give me more valuable options at WR.

4.09 Antonio Gates Was targeting the WR/TE spot here and decided to go for one of the top tight ends rather than a second or third tier wideout. Gates has been a top tight end producer for years and should have another excellent year this year. Rivers is one yera more mature and Gates was one of the top red zone targets in the league and I expect that to remain the same. He is no longer worthy of a second round pick but I felt he gave excellent value in the fourth round.

4.06 Jericho Cotchery, WR, NYJ In the early rounds I want to build the core of my offense. There were no RBs left that I thought were terrific and it was too early for a TE. The WR receiver position offerred the best value. Cotchery is NYs #1 WR and with Favre throwing down field to him I am hoping for a big season. The NY press is reporting that Cotchery and Favre are developing a rapport which should translate into yards and TDs.

4.13 Tony Gonzalez, TE, KC
One of the 4 top TE's. The other choice was Winslow, but I didn't like his bye week. I might have taken both if Ref did not pick one on the turn.
5.02 Carson Palmer, QB, CIN
Not too excited about this pick, but I am not sure what will be left for my next pick. Really considered Patrick Willis (SF) here. Also R. White and Lendale White. It now looks like not many QB's were selected in next two rounds. So, too early with this one. But, he should be good for 4000 yards. Some TD's. They'll ususally be playing from behind, so lots of passing.

4.14 Kellen Winslow TE CLE
Had no plans to get a TE here. But no WRs stood out. Think I can wait until 6.14 to find someone in same tier. Winslow is a top tier TE and I can forget about the slot now. DA loves him.
5.01 Derek Anderson QB CLE
Didnt know if I could wait two rds to get a top QB and waiting on a WR, it seemed like QB was the way to go. Thought about Palmer--but Cleveland loves to pass and DA is the reason. Hoping he's 100% obviously. Also pairs up my KW combo.

5. 05 Ricky WIlliams RB MIA
I got this one in my trade -- from Toral/B7. I decided to take the top RB or WR while also looking for a starter. I chose Ricky Williams because I believe that he will have a “break out” year if he stays healthy. He is pushing R Brown for the starting job and I think he will get a lot of carries regardless. I think that Parcells likes him and there is no doubt that he has talent. Not having a round 4 pick was hard to sit through.
5.07 Santana Moss WR WASH
This is my pick. Since I chose a RB at 5.05, I chose a starting WR here. I lost out on the top tier ones who were snatched away (again) in the picks ahead of me! I think that Santana can have a really good season. His QB is poised for a solid year and if Moss remains the primary target, I’ll be all set! If not, well...
I now have 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, all of whom should be starters. It is not too bad, but not as good as some of you.
I do not have a pick in round 6, so I will be waiting while 23 more players come off the board. I have two picks in round 7 and then I am back to normal. I have no idea who will be left and how I will be picking. I haven’t even made a preferred list yet! I do hope there are some players left!

5.11 Lee Evans, WR, BUF with the starting slots at RB and TE filled, this was either QB (too many choices still out there), WR (the current tier is thin), D (too early) or IDP (too early). This leaves me with my decision at WR: Evans, Curtis, Burleson, Chambers, Ward are draftable here. I don't expect Evans to make it back to me so I picked him. I believe that most of the others will make it back and I will have to do the hard decision then.
I expect Evans to get 1000yds and 6 TD, which adds to 136pts. that is more than most of the other available WRs, but with less risk.

6.04 Nate Burleson, WR, SEA I was wondering that he wasn't taken earlier. I wanted him one round earlier, but thought I could pass on him because he will make it back. And he did. With the injury to Engram he is again the #1 receiver (like last year) and he is still projected to be their primary returner which adds to his value. with receiving alone he is worth 120pts. add all those returning yards and he will be worth much more.
he is the 1st recurring member on my team. I never had any of my first five picks before. welcome back Nate, and keep it going.
post-draft note: just hours after I drafted him it was decided that he will not return punts this year. damn! I still hope he gets a few when the other receivers are back.

3.05 Willis McGahee, RB, Bal
Willis is, uh, one of my least favourite players. I took a strong dislike to him when he played for my Bills and he hasn't done anything to move up in my estimation since. However, lazy as he is, and despite the knee, he is still well ahead of any other RB by my rankings, a #2RB who could be a #1 if he decides to be. I expect him to put up his 1100 yards and 6 TD. Steve Smith was the other guy I considered here, but there seems to be enough talent remaining at WR to pass on him.

For ref 6.14 Bernard Berrian WR MIN
Wanted to go WR/WR here but just didn't like the ones left at this point. I like Berrian the best but almost didn't get him because he hsa the same bye as TJ. But in the end, that's just one week. Berrian depends on his speed. TJ should be better this year but with Minny's run heavy offense and his turf toe--who knows. Minny has to pass to someone...right?
7.01 DeMeco Ryans LB HOU
Didn't want any other WRs at this point. Also looked at Ricky for a long time here--but I'm pretty set at RB so might as well go for a position that can help me the most. There are only like 4 or 5 LBs in the top tier who are worth taking in this round and one is already gone. Did not want Url. If I went LB now it was really between Ryans and Harris. If Harris slipped, I'd have gone back to him next pick but we now know he didn't (stunk as I had to make the DP for loki and it was Harris!)
DeMeco should put up consistent points because of his high tackle numbers. He contributes other areas too of course--but consistently scoring well is the key to take an IDP this high IMM.

3.10Reggie Bush, RB, NO I kind of agonized here looking for RB2. Bush has certainly not lived up to his hype, but maybe 3rd year is a charm. Perhaps a tick more upside than the others who were considered. Other players considered were also RBBC, (Earnest Graham, Ronnie Brown), rookies, (Jonathan Stewart, Darren McFadden), or in the latter case, both.

4.05 Ben Roethlisberger, QB, PIT
Again I struggled a little with my pick here. But it’s a long time before I pick again and I was afraid of being stuck with a questionable or poor QB, so while I had many choices, I figured I’d grab one. Looked at either my WR2 or RB3, but felt there was still plenty of talent left in those choices. Also considered-Palmer, undrafted, and Gerrard.

5.10 Dallas Clark, TE, IND
I was looking at pass catchers for this set of picks. Clark, Cooley, and Ward were my main interest. It was more of a matter of who might make it back to me. Decided Clark, mainly because of his end zone looks. I think I read somewhere that he lead the league, last year. His production of just under 700 yards should not be hard to duplicate. Matching last year's 11 TDs might be asking too much.

6.05 Hines Ward, WR, PITT
I do like having a tandem QB and WR on the same team. A TD pass between them can really rock your score. While a finish as WR31 in 2007 certainly dampens any enthusiasm about selecting Ward this season, it is important to take note of the fact that Hines Ward has been a top-10 fantasy receiver in 3 of the last 4 seasons in which he has played at least 15 games.

6.08 Terrence McGee, DB, BUF
If he returns kickoffs again, this should work out well. I look for a gap between the top guy at a position, and the next guy. The DB position indicated a 20-30 point gap. The DL position also had a nice gap between Jared Allen and the next guy. Ditto with Patrick Willis. I was hoping Allen would make it back to me, but he didn't even come close. This pick was from Judy and allowed me to move up 8 spots. I didn't do much with it, as I probably could have got him 8 spots later. I've always wanted this guy in an IDP league. He's the LT of DB's. I'm hoping he keeps it up. He also lead the league in PD's. I think that means they pick on him a lot, and the other CB is better. This is a good thing in fantasy football.
6.13 Ted Ginn Jr., WR, MIA
Really not excited about this pick. I wanted to take a WR here, but it was slim pickings. I'm hoping he still returns all the kicks, and becomes the #1 receiver. Anyways, I now have two WR's, and can now work on other spots. In retrospect, I should have taken Jared Allen here.

7.11 London Fletcher-Baker, LB, WAS since my offense starters are set (only QB missing), I looked to the defensive side. I had the Vikings Defense queued up for 10 picks, before and they go 1 pick ahead. So I had to change the plan and looked at IDPs. there will be only a few with 100 or more tackles this season. Fletcher will be one of them. he will add a bit of everything else, like every other LB too. getting around 135pts is the goal here. there are a few other LBs out there with the same output. I'll try to get one of them to have a good defensive core.

7.14 Chicago Bears DEF CHI
A few D's have gone and it just feels like a good time to lock in a high tier Defense. I'm not sure on further review how well they fit with the scoring system but they should have decent numbers and I feel they will be a solid choice. 8.01 Will Witherspoon LB STL
Feeling like defensive players are moving early so I better join the train and get a top notch LB. I didn't feel like DL and DB had standouts worth the selection. Plus I think improved line should help make things better for Witherspoon this year.

5.12 Kevin Smith RB DET
I'm not even sure if this guys the starter at the beginning of the season, but I'm betting at some point he will be. I drafted the two-headed Lions MONSTER (undrafted and undrafted) last year and got only spot starts out of them. If LJ and Edge stay healthy that's all I'll need from Smith out of this pick. In a best-case scenario all three of them are healthy and productive starters, and they can be interchangeable. If one or more go south, it could be a long year.
I wanted a 3rd RB, given the uncertainty of my first two, and I wanted to get him on this side of the 3-4 turn, as Eville had no RBs and I was again expecting him to take a couple. I had considered both Brown and White with this pick, but ultimately got scared away from both of them.

6.03 Patrick Willis, LB SFO
I had offered up this pick for trade. I was feeling that no matter what I did here, I would be reaching. I wanted to start concentrating on IDP, but it seemed too early. There was nothing standing out at 6.03 that I didn't feel would still be there nearer the end of the 6th.
Among the guys I was considering around this time were Willis, McGee, Cooley, and even Ted Ginn. I figured the biggest impact player of these is Willis (McGee a close second). I'm more inclined to choose LBs when it's close, given their higher point totals overall, so Willis was the pick. Other LBs started going in the 7th, so I wasn't way too early.

7.12 Chris Cooley, TE WAS
I considered Cooley in the 6th, a full 23 picks earlier. I'm glad I held off because he fell into my lap here. I had projected Cooley as the 4th TE (maybe optimistic), so I think I got a great value here as the 7th TE taken. I'll be happy with anything around 700 yards and 7 TDs. I'm hoping that the new offense will work for the Skins and Cooley enough to maintain or improve his consistent production the last few years.

8.03 Patrick Crayton, WR DAL
I picked up Crayton just after the draft last year to help with the fiasco of drafting undrafted , who didn't play at all last season. He was my WR3 a good portion of last year. He should get plenty of opportunities opposite TO and Witten.
I was very happy with the my 7th and 8th round. The next guy in my queue, undrafted I would have been scared about most of the season. With Crayton I'll only be scared half the season. At least he has a solid hold on WR2 this year for the Cowboys, and he may even get a few PR duties again this year.

8.04 E.J. Henderson, LB, MIN I had him on my list for the last pick and passed on him because I thought he will fall to me here. He is the core of one of the best defenses in the league. He is the man in the middle and will get lots of opportunities. just look at last years stats and you know what I mean. nothing more to add.
the only other player I considered here was David Garrard, but he is not that much more valuable than the other remaining QBs. until my next pick only 3 teams are in need of a starting QB and I doubt that all of them will draft one. I may target one then.

4.08 Anquan Boldin, WR, Ari Pick acquired from Judy by trade
This pick was acquired in the trade with Judy in which I moved down in the first round. Boldin was the top player on my list by a good margin at this point. Fitzgerald and Boldin seem to alternate having the better years, and with Fitzgerald having a contract extension and Boldin looking for a new contract, it's quite possible that they could reverse positions again with Boldin having the better year. He should be recovered from his toe and hip injuries this year. Mart Leinart's productivity is the main question mark here; I'm glad that Warner is around to step in if necessary
The question in my mind when I made the trade was moving up 11 spaces in this round, at the expense of losing a first-rounder, would be worth possibly losing out on Steven Jackson. In the 4th round I was able to acquire Boldin and Marshall. For the most part I view that as a worthwhile upgrade on the player combos I would have been able to get with my original picks -- except that Selvin Young (5.08), who I consider a comparable player. So whether the deal was worth it or not is to me still uncertain.

4.10 Brandon Marshall, WR, Den
This was a tough decision, unlike my pick of Boldin two rounds earlier. I am not particularly concerned by his three-game suspension (which will probably be reduced to two). I'm more interested in whether players will be around at the end of the season than the beginning. But his various brushes with the law, along with his odd arm injury, raise the question of whether he is going to prove an incurable head case. Still -- I was very weak at WR last year, picking two RBs, Gates, and a QB early, and it was no fun. The idea of owning three of the top 15 WRs was appealing enough that I couldn't turn it down.
Other players I seriously considered here were Kellen Winslow (4.14), Selvin Young (5.08) and LenDale White (5.14)

6.10 Julius Jones, RB, Sea
With six possible RB3s going off the board in the previous round, my remaining tier of possible RB3s was thinning out, and Julius Jones was at the top of it. There are problems with him. He has a challenge to his job in Maurice Morris, and his 3.6 AVG last year was, well, bad. I am hoping that he can fend Morris off and that his weak performance last year was partly due to dissatisfaction at his small role.
I also considered Rashad Mendenhall (7.03) here but had too much doubt about how the Steelers in his first year, and whether he will ever displace Willie Parker entirely.

8.14 Chris Perry RB CIN
Not quite sure what I'm doing making this pick to be honest. Definitely didn't need another RB yet. Might be a total flop as he could only start for me a couple weeks probably anyhow barring injury. But as of now, he's the starting RB in Cincy. And even though he might not make my starting lineup, he could be a nice trade chip. Time will tell if I regret this pick or not. I think it would have been a great pick had I only had one RB. Fargas looked good too. I just didn't want a Team Def or another IDP. I'm going to grab a WR with 9.01. Even if he was a backup, he was set to have some value--but as a starter--he could have some nice numbers.
9.01 Reggie Brown WR PHI
So many questinalbe WRs here. I couldn't take two of them--hence my Perry pick. Brown has some upside, but disappointed last year. With Curts down, surely Brown will get more balls his way. Nice speed. Could be a sleeper. Time will tell.

7.05 Nick Barnett, LB, GB
Time to get an IDP on the board; once you get below the top 12 or so you can guess, or mix and match by bye weeks, but it's nice to have one solid LB on the team. Barnett seems to be solid, ranked in top 5 or 6 in most lists, and in some rankings he was bumped down a bit by his one-game suspension, since successfully appealed. Over 100 tackles each of the last two years, and teams should be running more against the Pack this year as they will be behind more. There are LBs with higher upside but Barnett can anchor an IDP squad.

8.10 Matt Hasselbeck, QB, Sea
Now we start having some fun. I was flexible at QB. I offered to trade down even further in the first round and would have taken Brady at 1.08 then, but the offer wasn't accepted. I would have taken Manning (2.01) at my position in the 2nd round, but of course by then he was long gone. I would have taken Romo (2.09) in the 3rd round but of course by then he was long gone. I'm not quite as big as Brees as some are. After those three, I see 9 or so QBs I can treat as relatively equal. So I want to wait...wait...wait...and make sure I get one of them. And, if there are 2 good ones around, and teams left who haven't selected a QB, I like to select 2 right in a row, ahead of them. Ideally I like to do this in rounds 10 or 11, or 9 and 10, but I felt ready to do it here if I could find 2 really good ones. If one of my QBs gets injured, I am covered, and don't need to have my starter's backup, or find a scrub on the WW. I can play matchups with the 2 QBs...I may not be successful in picking the right matchups, but at least I will have a fun decision to make every week.
Heading into this pick there were 3 teams without QBs picking after me. So I queued up Hasselbeck, Garrard, and Schaub, the 3 QBs I would next like to own, expecting to get two of them.
Hasselback is a top 10 QB in most lists. I don't believe the loss of 2 undrafted WRs to injury will hurt him a bit, even before he's back. He threw to the same type of crew of crap receivers last year. His TD/INT ratio improved substantially last year, an excellent sign, which relieves any worry I might have about his age (33).

9.11 Ray Lewis, LB, BAL he is not the Ray Lewis from the Ravens Superbowl season. He is a few years older and not the dominant MLB any more. But he is good enough to rack up loads of tackles with a bit in everything else. Good enough for my 3rd LB in a row. bad thing is that he has the same bye as my #1 LB (London Fletcher), but since the bye is in week 10 I have plenty of time to find a valuable replacement.
other players considered here were David Garrard and a few other still undrafted QBs. since they all are in the same tier and I see something like 5 equal value QBs left, I can pass for another round or 2.

5.09 Matt Forte, RB, CHI I was still concentrating on offense and wanted to pick another RB while some decent starters remained. It was between Selvyn Young, Matt Forte and Fred Taylor. Young was chosen right before me, so I had to choose between a rookie with good upside potential and the veteran with many carries and hits over the years. Forte apparently won the starting job, and I usually will go with youth; therefore I picked Forte.
6.06 Fred Taylor, RB, JAX I almost took Taylor in the last round, and when he was still available, I chose him. See 5.09.
7.09 D. Harris, LB, NYJ After the 1st 6 rounds, I felt that I had a strong nucleus of offensive players and therefore turned my attention to defense. Harris had a very good rookie season, probably as good as Patrick Willis. I am hoping that with one year experience to draw upon he will put up very good fantasy numbers.

10.04 Paul Posluszny, LB, BUF I don't expect many QBs drafted this round since everyone has at least a starter, so I can wait another round. It was either D or best IDP available. I went with IDP because they are dropping like flies and I want to be sure to get 6 proven ones before getting any backups for the offense. Posluszny showed what he can do in just 2 and a half games last year and I expect even a bit more this season. he will get similiar stats to E.J. Henderson and Ray Lewis which I picked in the last 2 rounds. LBs are not as thin as I hoped, but there are only a few left and I don't need to take a gamble on any of them. I have the proven ones.

9.05 David Garrard, QB, Jax
This pick is the 2nd half of the daily double I discussed re pick 8.10 (Hasselbeck). A lot of analysts seem to like Garrard better than Hasselback. He has the same problems other mid-rank QBs have -- questionable recivers, tough schedule. That's why I especially like him as part of a platoon.
Matt Schaub, the next QB I had Q'd in this area, was the next QB taken (9.08).

8.06 New England, DEF New England was one of the last 1st tier defenses remaining. Picking NE at 8.06 continued my plan of concentrating on defense at this time.
9.09 T. Heap, TE, BAL I was going to continue building my defense in this round, but Heap was too good of a TE to pass up.
10.06 Jonathon Vilma, LB NO Vilma was hurt by the change in the defensive scheme in NY in 2007. The trade to NO could enable him to return to his 2006 levels. Anyhow, that is what I am hoping for.

10.14 Barrett Ruud LB TAM
This has been a weird draft for me. Felt I needed a LB here. There is more to it, but it has to do with long-term draft strategy so can't talk about it yet. Will add it in the recap. Anyhow, I really like Ruud and think this will be his year. He had nice numebrs last year but is the defensive captain now and will call the plays via helmet headset. I think he is way underrated. Will get plenty of tackles to keep his base points high every week. This gives me a pretty solid 2nd IDP. 11.01 Eli Manning
I think Eli slipped a little too far. He's got his confidence along with his weapons this year. The thing is that DA has some injury issues and Eli is mainly insurance. I looked at other QBs but a few had the same bye as DA. Also saw that two otehr teams didn't have QBs yet and would definitely both have one before it got back to me. One manager already had two QBs. If DA was def. 100%, I prob don't go Eli here. Probably would have hit an IDP again. Turns out that the IDPs I was looking to take at this pick instead of Eli all went before my next pick--but it's all good. Eli could be a great pick.
Overall--I'm a little uneasy about my draft thus far. I've got to pick well with the next several picks.

11.11 Marc Bulger, QB, STL I don't know why he fell that far. He was one of the top-5 QBs in the last few years and I pick him as 15th this year. Yes he has a weak line, yes he has only Holt as a target, yes we don't know what we can expect of Steven Jackson. But who cares, this is Marc Bulger. He can still rack up a few 300-yard games with more TDs than INTs. if he comes anywhere close to his pre 2007 I am doing really fine with this pick. expect me to take a 2nd QB sooner than later as an insurance.

9.14 Alge Crumpler TE TEN
Feeling really good about Crumpler this year. I think he may be a good outlet for Young. Hopefully he will return to previous form and become that good target in the red zone. Tenn gets there but gives Bironas lots of FG's. Should mean a lot of opprtunities for Alge.
10.01 Lance Briggs LB CHI
Wanting to get a little more D and I feel Briggs continue to improve. I see Chicago in a lot of low scoring games which should produce defensive opportunities. (Lots of tackles please...)

11.14 Trent Cole DL PHI I think Eagles defensive line is a bit depper and stronger this year which should translate into Cole not getting as much attention and not wearing down toward the end of the season as he has in the past.
12.01 Gary Brackett LB IND Good consistent LB who should continue to put up good numbers with lots of tackles. I also like his pass defense which adds lots of potential for big games. (He saved me one week last year with an INT for a touchdown so I had to try him again).

12.05 Adrian Wilson, DB, ARI not much to say here. I wanted another defense oriented slot filled. DL is not providing enough points for a 12th pick. The LB-slots are filled, so it is DB or D. I see too many equal valued team defenses out there, so I looked at who is available at DB. Wilson or Wilson, Adrian or Gibril? I went with Adrian, don't ask me why, I could have flipped a coin too. lets see who of these 2 is the better DB this year.

My first linebacker. But the 19th LB selected. I think he's better than that. Now when I watch a Denver game, I'll be watching the defensive side. Soon I will have his number memorized.
11.02 Devin Hester, WR, CHI

I had 5 QB's in mind when I passed in round 10. Only one made it back to me. So, I really didn't make this pick. It was made for me. I really wanted Favre , though. I even picked him before Ref picked twice, and he already had 2 QB's. I was worried someone might trade with Ref and pick Jake. Which is paranoid. 13.02 Chris Brown, RB, HOU
This is already looking bad, I read where he stubbed his toe or something. Whoever emerges for the Texans could be a good contributor. I'd like to go to a Texans game sometime. Maybe, I'll make it this year. Some predictions: 250 carries, 1262 yards, 13 TD's, Some catches, No fumbles, No DNP's.

13.11 Aaron Rodgers, QB, GB a lot of backup-QBs were taken since my last pick. I did not expect that. I hoped there were more available here, but one of my 2 top-choices survived: Aaron Rodgers. the other one was Delhomme. Rodgers is the new #1 in Green Bay and they wanted him more than Brett Favre, so he can't be that bad, right? I expect him having solid numbers all year. he learned from the best and will perform like one of the best. his bye-weel fits Bulger's and I now have 2 equal value QBs that I can play matchups with. getting Bulger and Rodgers in weeks 11 and 13 is a miracle to me. I guess they fell that far because many of you focused on IDPs in the last few rounds.

13.14 Deuce McAllister RB NOR Although heavily injury prone he can produce big numbers if healthy. Bush is just not an every down back so I expect some decent games even if not whole season.

14.04 Ahmad Bradshaw, RB, NYG I am the last manager to pick a backup RB, but I don't think that I got the worst one of them. He showed last year what he can do for his team and will be used much more this year. He will get some runs, some receptions and he is still projected to be the kickoff-returner. with the runs and catches he is in the middle of the backup-RB-pack because he is as valuable as a #2 RB can be, but the return yardage is the difference maker here. if he gets me 40yds + 100 return yds = 8pts/game I am satisfied with this pick.

14.14 Seattle Seahawks DEF SEA
You know at some point I'm going to have to grab a D and it might as well be now. Most already have one so am in no hurry, but I like Sea and a couple others. Looking at my other needs, I think those guys will drop. Not sure if this is a great pick, but feel fortunate that such a highly rated D by many sites is still here. I'll just grab them then not worry about D anymore.
15.01 Antonio Pierce LB NYG
Looking at my needs and it's basically WR and an IDP. I htink the WRs i'm interested in will fall to me next round. Certainly one of them will. If not, I'll grab someone else. Def. getting one next round--if not two. So I just decided to take the best IDP available. Pierce looks like he may be that guy.

11.09 Ernie Sims, LB, DET For this round I wanted to continue to bolster my defense. Sims was my highest ranking LB at the time.
12.06 Brett Favre, QB, NYJ This is my favorite pick of the draft so far. I planned on using strength of schedule to find a QB to play on Brady's bye week. I had not been paying attention to the QBs remaining and was surprised to see that Favre had dropped to the 12th round. The Jets play AZ in week 4, and the only other remaining QB with a better matchup was Delhomme playing ATL. Choosing Favre also gave me a good backup for Brady should Brady get injured. Favre's ADP has been around 79, so getting him at pick #160 was a very good value. The Jets have a knack of snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory--Favre will reverse that.
13.09 Antoine Winfield, DB, MINN I still needed a DB for my starting lineup, and Winfield is one of the top ones in the league.
14.06 Jason Taylor, DL, WASH I felt that the trade to Washington would enable Taylor to bounce back to the numbers of his All Pro season of 2006. Later that night he injured his knee in a preseason game. I hope that for his sake, not mine, the injury is minor.

10.03 Dallas Cowboys, DEF DAL
I'm not really sure where this pick came from. I had no plan of taking a DEF at this time. I considered just about every other position, but didn't find any other fits at this time. I should've probably taken a QB here, but talked myself into waiting another round (in retrospect this could be a big problem). Had I pulled that trigger here it would've been Manning.

I didn't know anything about this guy when I drafted him last year (just by looking at his projections). After I had, I began to watch him. He's an incredible playmaker and the cornerstone of the Cards defense, who I will be happy to watch again this year. The franchise tag and looming free agency should motivate him to keep pushing.

11.12 Philip Rivers QB SD
Well at this point I was the last team to have a QB. I started to get nervous that more teams would take backups and I really couldn't wait any longer. I was targeting Manning or Rivers for this pick. Manning was gone already, so Rivers was the guy. He has a favorable schedule, and a host of weapons. I'm hoping that his knees will holdup for the season, which it sounds like he's progressing well. Had youngroman taken Rivers instead of Bulger, I'd have been in quite the quandry. I'm not high on Bulger given his injury issues. Favre and Delhomme were next on my list.

15.11 Warrick Dunn, RB, TB Forced pick or insurance to Graham? I'd say both. A few of the last valueable RBs went off the board the picks in front of me and none of the managers until my next pick has a 2nd backup yet. So I better grab one here. I haven't looked too much at others than Dunn. he will see plenty of touches because it seems that Graham is not the true #1 that I hoped. 6-7ppg even as an insurance is not that bad.

15.09 Leon Washington, RB, NYJ Washington was terrific in 2007 as a kick returner and from the line of scrimmage. He was so much better than Thomas Jones that he probably should have been the starter. If Jones is injured, or if he is as ineffective as last year, while he will not be an every 3 down back, Washington should get most of the carries.

16.04 Antwaan Randle El, WR, WAS I am still missing a starting K, D and DL. Nearly all of the available ones are interchangeable from week to week, so I'm once more concentrating on backups. After 2 RBs, WR was the next position to look at. I like players that also return some punts or kicks (see Bradshaw). Randle El is not only a return man he is also a starting receiver. what I can I ask more in the 16th round. he can easily get me 10pts per game and will compete with Nate Burleson for my 3rd receiver slot. his late bye makes him a good replacement when my other WRs have their bye in weeks 4 and 6.
now I hope that not too many defenses are going off the board in the next 20 picks. I'll probably take one then.

10.10 Jacksonville Jaguars, DEF
I had planned to take my team defence very late, just before managers start, for reasons inexplicable to me, taking 2nd defences. Most fantasy analysts I have read have taken the position that, well, there's Minnesota (7.10, and a real value for mjd) and San Diego (5.03) and beyond that 14 or so indistinguishable teams. I also have the problem that I keep going through analyses of teams and only belatedly realize that they are talking about D/STs and not just defences and end up cursing myself and throwing the magazine across the room. However the team D analyses I did seem to understand often kept putting Jacksonville in the top 5 or 6. Their main problem stat-wise last year was absence of sacks. So they drafted two potential [undrafted] sack masters 1 and 2. And they have a new defensive coordinator in Gregg Williams. I remember him from his term as Head Coach in Buffalo, which was disastrous, and the man is a jerk, but I believe in his ability to put together a defence.
They have a fine playoff schedule the first two weeks of the playoffs, as well, going to Chicago, and receiving Green Bay at home. Week 16 will be a problem...but I'll first worry about getting that far.
This pick could have been a mistake, but I saw a chance to get a value defence, at a reasonable price. There was no one selected between this pick and my next selection that I was interested in, so at least it won't be a disastrous mistake. The Jags were only taken at 12.14 in RIFC, the 10th defence selected, so I probably reached here.

7.2 Brian Urlacher LB CHI
With two picks in this round, I decided to shake it up and draft two IDP's. My first choice was Ryans but Ref snatched him, offered him to me, but I redecided and declined. I am hoping for a nice rebound year from him. I suspect that CHI will spend a lot of time on defense so if he does not get too tired, he will pileup the tackles for me.
7.7 Jared Allen DL MIN I think Allen will do really well with this defense. There are lots of teammates to provide pressure and that should free him since the OL can't cover all of them. So now I have a tackels guy and and a sack guy.

<13.7> Jon Kitna QB DET
At this point, 20 QB's had been taken and I was afraid that if I waited, there would be no decent backups left. It was among Kitna, Rodgers and Garcia and Kitna was playing against the worst DEF in Donovan's bye week. That is all I plan to use Kitna for. I would have preferred to take Rodgers, but he goes up against the Colts Def in week 7, not a good place to be!

11.05 Donte' Stallworth, WR, Cle
It was definitely time to take a WR4 here, especially as two of my top 3 WRs have the same bye week. This looked like the right time for Donte'. His projections tend to be around 700-900 yards and 5-7 TDs. I'll take that. The two problems with him are, first, whether there's enough balls to go around with him, Braylon and Winslow on the same field; and second, the question whether his QB, Derek Anderson (5.01), will implode. Anderson has the most varied expectations of any player in the league, I think, everything from his being the 3rd best QB in the league to his losing the job to [undrafted QB] by November. Either way, I think there's gonna be a lot of passing going on in Cleveland as they will have no running game.
The other possibility here was Joey Galloway, who went the next pick and I went back and forth between them. Joey has a bigger upside and is a better WR3 pick I think, where he was where he was taken; but given his age, the groin stuff, and Garcia I prefer Stallworth as a WR4, as a little safer pick.

16.14 James Hardy WR BUF
I had been looking at both of these WRs for a long time. Was hoping that someone would take one of them so I could take the other. Both are #2s.
Hardy came out of college a year early. Not only was he a dominating return man, but a super WR. He played hoops for a year before deciding to concentrate on football at Indiana. This guy is tall and can really leap. He's strong as well and has a nose for the football. You never seem to know how a rookie is going to do and he's also nursing a hammy which seem to take forever to heal. Since I have my 3 starters already--I don't mind the risk. In the same respect, TJ isn't 100%...same goes for Berrian and who knows what Brown will do. Also Tj and Berrian both are 8 week byes. Hardy could be a sleeper. 17.01 Drew Bennett WR STL
Like 3 years ago Bennett was incredible at times in Tenn. Then boom. Worthless. Now he's the #2 in StL. Bruce is gone and Bulger loves to throw. By all accounts, Bennett seems to be back. But there are so many questions. Bennett isn't 100% now and Bulger always seems to be a mystery lately. Again, at this round, it's worth the risk. If he doesn't pan out--then it doesn't really matter as I'm sure there will be players on the WW I have to get and someone has to be thrown back!

19.07 DJ Hackett WR CAR
I had wanted this guy for a few rounds but had other needs and so was really hoping he would drop to me. He did really well in SEA last year and now that Smith is out for two games in CAR he should be the #1 WR for a while. When Smith comes back, DEF will need to decide whom to cover. DJ has sure hands and can get free pretty easily. My WR corps is now set -- at least for the start of the season!

17.11 Tennessee Titans Defense I really did not know who to pick here because I believe most of the players I like would be available in the 25th round. That is not true for the defenses. I bet that most of us will draft 2, which leaves only 4 available on waivers and I don't want one of the crappy ones. so I better take one here and one in the next round (I hope for TB or BAL). Team defenses are like kickers, there are a few out there that are in the top10 every year but the top3 are different and are rarely picked high in drafts. so when I pick a defense low I get the the good one. right?

12.10 Maurice Morris, RB, Sea
Handcuff for Julius Jones (6.10). If one doesn't play, the other should.
Selected at 8.12 in RIFC and 8.08 in RIFC AAA#2 so I was quite surprised he was available here. Had to put off selecting another IDP to another round.

16.06 K. Walter, WR, HOU I only had 2 WRs thus far and probably waited too long in the draft to find decent talent at this position. Any WR that I would pick would be somewhat of a sleeper. Walter was the highest ranked WR on my list.
17.09 S. Breaston, WR, AZ Same reasoning as 16.06 except that now I had 3 WRs. Breaston has been returning kicks in addition to his receiving duties so he may provide some value.

16.13 Green Bay Defense, DEF, GB
Pittsburgh has a brutal schedule weeks 10-14. Green Bay does not. And they were pretty good last year.
17.02 Dante Hall, WR, SL
Probably should have taken Warner here. Dante proabaly would have lasted 2 more rounds. No way for Kurt. OK for a 17th round pick. But now I'm reading he sprained his ankle, which is what kept him out last year.

18.04 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Defense after the Titans in round 17 I wanted a 2nd defense here. It was either Baltimore or Tampa. Don't ask me why I picked Tampa. I expect them to have a better offense than Baltimore, so their Offense will be on the field more often. as long as your team is on offense your defense can't get negative points, even in case of a turnover. not much else to say.

20.08 Rashead Mathis DB JAX
Although DB are a dime a dozen and there is not much difference between so many of them, I decided that I needed a third DB for now. JAX has a strong defense and I think that Mathis will be a good part of it. I also had to start paying more attention to the bye weeks for my IDP's.

12.03 James Farrior, LB PIT
After finally getting a QB in the last round, I felt I was sitting OK offensively. I had several WR on my queue, but wanted to stay w/ IDP and get another strong LB, as they were flying off the board. I had considered getting a second QB in a row (and based on what came back to me I should've).
At any rate, Farrior is a sold tackler on a solid defense. He just signed a new contract, which hopefully doesn't take the edge off.

18.06 Adrian Peterson, RB, CHI This was a no brainer. I found it hard to believe that a back who rushed for 300 yards in a game in 2007 could drop to the 18th round, but there he was. Back to reality: Matt Forte , my #2 RB is a rookie and even though I have other RBs to start in his place should he falter, I thought that this was a necessary handcuff.

13.12 Jeff Garcia, QB TAM This is the point in the draft that I got sick to my stomach. Since my last pick, 5 backup QBs went off the board. I would've been happier with any of these other guys over Garcia. After NOT grabbing a second QB in Rd 12, I knew I'd be looking for one on this turn. Unfortunately, so were many others. Despite not really being thrilled with Garcia, I took him anyway. I looked down the list of potential starters still available and couldn't find another one I'd have been happy with if Rivers fails to produce.
I hope that Garcia can get healthy and stay healthy throughout the season (no small task for a gamer with his best years behind him). Rivers week 9 bye fits well with Garcia's week 9 bye (KC Chiefs), if he's still playing.

14.03 Heath Miller, TE PIT
With only 3 receivers I feel I need to get another player to fit my flex spot. I had some WR on my radar, but was really happy to see Heath Miller available at this point. I had him producing just as many points as most of the WR available at this point. He's a Big Ben red zone target, whose TD potential is high. I will be able to keep an eye on both Cooley and Miller and use them in matchups (hopefully a good thing, rather than a pain to choose each week).

18.13 Bobby Engram, WR, SEA,
If not for being injured the first month of the season he would have gone 10 rounds earlier. As long as he returns to last years form with 6 catches per game, it will be worth the wait for an 18th rounder. Plus we have 9 bench spots.
19.02 Angelo Crowell, LB, BUFF
Angelo is the highest rated LB I have left on the board. But the 20th or so over all. His bye week doesn't kill me either. This is my 4th IDP. I will have to pick two more starters in the 20th+ rounds. I can usually find a couple guys during the season; so this may not be so bad.

18.14 Terrell Suggs DL BAL
I just have two more spots to fill to complete my starting lineup so might as well do it now. I'm shocked so many DL have gone already. DL can be such a crap shoot. Suggs wasn't my first choice. Had like four or 5 others I really liked. Was going to just skip it again, but came acrossed Suggs in my research. He was franchised as a LB--even though he's played DL. SO that tells me he is going to play some LB this year which could lead to a big boost in production. I checked several sites--esp fanball--and most of them have him at DL. CBS has him at LB already. So I moved him way up in my projections. He's still not as good as the elite DLers who were long gone probably, but he should be around the top of the DL guys who are left.
19.01 Stephen Gostkowski K NWE
Man it's kind of early for a Kicker. One is gone already--but I usually leave Ks and DLs to really late. Still, I have the chae to get any K I want but Kaeding and I think Gost is probably the best. May only be good for 1-2 points more per game on average--but who knows?!?! Definitely could have waited. Maybe some NFL news will happen while everyone else is drafting Ks and I can get a lucky break...

20.06 Randy McMichael, TE, STL I wanted a tight end to use during Heap's bye week, and McMichael was at the top of my list of remaining TEs. StL has a new coach and a new offensive system which may make more use of the TE position and therefore McMichael may be a sleeper.

19.11 Darren Sproles, RB, SD He is the number 2A in San Diego behind LT. LT will again see a high workload. At least they will try that, but I see Sproles and Hester taking more snaps away than initially expected. This means around 10 touches per game for Sproles. but what I like more, even if he is only one of two backup RBs, he is the main returner for kicks and will see some punts too. as I said earlier when taking Bradshaw and Randle El, I like picking returners.

20.04 Cortland Finnegan, DB, TEN I wanted Bruce as my 5th WR here, but he went 3 picks ahead. damn! I never heard of Finnegan before, but that is what such deep drafts are all about. Last year he was among the league leaders in tackles at his position with 79. I'm hoping for, but I don't expect, that many tackles this year. what I expect is that he returns some punts this year. that gives him that small extra value that makes him draftable and playable as my first IDP off the bench.

20.14 Ben Utecht TE CIN
These two picks were probably my easiest since LT right of the bat. My WRs are suspect. With our ability to use a TE as a WR, this gives me some protection there as well as a backup TE for KW's bye or injury. Utecht is the 3rd option in a pass-friendly offense. He did well with the Colts even when the Colts were using 3 WRs and 3 TEs a lot. I really think he is a sleeping giant.
21.01 Philadelphia Eagles DEF PHI
I looked at Philly even with my first D. But ultimately it came down to Sea/GB/Tenn/and Philly. I took Seattle then.
I know Philly isn't even rated that highly in some projections, but I liek them. I also looked at the Redskins with this pick. I wanted the ability to rotate Ds based on matchups. Therefore, I could skip a top D and wait on it a little longer than grab two of them. I htink Philly could surprise. They get after it and can rack up some points. They also allow less yards than many others--including Wash.

20.13 Ahman Green, RB, HOU,
Rolling the dice on this one. I figure between him and Chris Brown, one of them will start one of the weeks sometime this year. Even then, they are just bye week material. So, I'm probably just compounding a bad situation. Some predictions for Ahman: Miracuously he returns to his old form.........262 carries, 1505 yards, 606 receiving yards, some great blocks.....no points though, 11 TD's.
21.02 Rod Bironas, K, TENN
Most people wait until round 23 to get a kicker. I figured I'd go a couple rounds earlier and get my pick of who I wanted. Except for a few early kicker picks. This guy can boot 50 yarders. I was too lazy to look up if there was a bonus for that. I'm thinking there is. Plus Tennessee's offense seems to bog down a lot and have to kick a FG. Others looked at...Viaitieri....put an n in there someplace, Gould.

15.12 Dominick Rhodes, RB IND
9 RB were picked between my last pick at 14.03 and this one. Almost all of them were backups. I was in the market even before that run started, as I only had 3 RB at that point. My short list included Bradshaw and Washington, both of whom had been taken. I was pleased to get Rhodes here. From what I understand he's go tthe upper hand at being Addai's backup, and therefore one injury away from being the man on a very productive offense. He's back with the team where he had his greatest success, so I'm hoping to see improvements in attitude and results.
Looking down the draft results perhaps I should've handcuffed Edge at this point, as Hightower went off the board within a couple of rounds.

16.03 A.J. Hawk, LB GNB
AJ is the 4th LB on my team, despite having noone in either of my other IDP spots. I really preferred having 4 strong LBs to start each week. That worked well for me last year. It's not necessarily working as well this year, as most of us seem to be stacking up on quality LBs. AJ was the top LB left on my sheet, with a bye week that fit well with the others. It's very possible that he's ready for a breakout year. This assumes he can get over his current ailment in time for the season to start. I'll have to keep a close eye on him as we near week 1.

17.12 Kurt Warner, RB ARI
The "Warner is starting" news hit the websites early on Sunday. I figured that someone in the next 15 or so picks would take him, but noone did. After getting "stuck" with Garcia in Rd 13, I was really happy to get a 3rd QB here. My third QB chosen could be my week 1 starter. All three are injury risks, but hopefully Warner does get the start and can lead his team to a few wins early in the season to solidify his position. The Cards have a tame early schedule, so that should be possible. He has lots of potential and lots of weapons, even though he's getting on in years. This could be a steal or it could be a total bust if Wisenhunt decides to start Leinart just to spite Chris Mortenson.

18.03 Justin Gage, WR TEN
I had this guy as the next WR on my board, and he had actually been the "next WR on my board" for a few rounds. I feel he can put up decent if not great numbers. He may not have the upside of some guys at this spot, but he is the #1 WR on his team. I'm hoping for 750 yards and 6 TDs out of him. Last year he had 750/2, but he's coming along. Others I had considered here were Jerry Porter and Hackett. Gage may be the worst of these 3, or he may turn out the best.

19.12 Ladell Betts, RB WAS
I opted for another backup RB here. He's shown flashes of brilliance when given the opportunity and that won't be any different if he gets a chance this year. That's a big IF. Portis has managed to stay healthy throughout the past two seasons. If that happens again then this will be a throwaway pick. If not, it could be a monster. This was another pick mostly for potential at this point. Lucking into a starting RB can really make a fantasy season. Last year I was lucky enough to grab Graham after Williams went down, and he helped a lot down the strech.

I read recently that Mathis will be an every-down player this year, partially due to Freeney's injury. He'll also get to spend more time rushing from the weak side. If he's healthy (I just read a report that he has ankle issue), then he could be in store for a great season. DL is a bit of a guessing game. Hopefully I've made a good guess.

19.14 Isaac Bruce WR SFO Bruce should be the #1 target in SF and even though he's losrt a step he should produce well. I'm not concerned about how much he's played. Rather than gamble on a longshot I think this is a safe pick that will produce good backup numbers for my starters. 20.01 Josh Brown K STL Never really sure when to take a kicker but I'm not dazzled by anyone left currently and Brown should be a solid top 5 kicker plus he's got dome games when we get to December.

21.07 Saints DEF
This is my back up defense. I wanted the Eagles -- no surprise there -- but Ref took them at the top of this round. And then -- horrors -- two other Def -- one I wanted next -- went before me -- PANIC! -- but I think it will turn out OK. NO plays SF during the Colts bye week, so they should do well on Defense. In retrospect, I probably should have taken Philly in 20 instead of another DB. The DB's are so even and their points fluctuate so much from week to week it's crazy!

23.07 David Akers K PHL
David had a crappy year last year and he knew it. So he rededicated himself to some kind of martial arts program to get stronger, especially in his legs. Kickers are hard to pick, but I do expect the Eagles to score a lot -- but if they score too many TD's, then I won't get the FG points! In truth, I made this pick in the car and didn't feel like looking up the list of kickers and I knew that Akers would be no worse than most of the kickers out there!
NB: I seem to have a lot of Eagles on my team this year: Westbrook, Donovan, Booker, Jackson, Akers, LJ Smith and it may all blow up in my face. Only time will tell, but watching them up close and reading the papers here, I think the team will have a good year and I hope that translates into good stats for my fantasy team.

1.03 Adrian Peterson RB Minn My other consideration was Steven Jackson, but he had not gone to camp yet. I had to have a player here that was going to perform because it was a lot of picks before I picked again. If Jackson holds out longer and/or gets dinged then my season is over before it starts. 2.12 Drew Brees QB NO I wanted a quality QB this year as last year I had QB's from SF and TB. I knew I had a good RB, and three of the best 4 QB's were already gone. I saw a drop off in QB quality and a lot of great WR were gone. I also liked the NO OL. 3.03 Thomas Jones RB NYJ 3 more WR went right before this pick. I thought with the recent signing of Brett and the changes in the NYJ OL that he was ranked a little low. I like players from the AFC East and AFC West as their schedule is easier than some other divisions. 4.12 Greg Jennings WR GB I felt he was best WR here, and Aaron Rodgers is surrounded by a quality cast. 5.03 San Diego Chargers DT This was the dumbest move by anyone in the entire league. I assumed there would be a run of DT's real soon and I really liked their defence before I found out that Merriman was hurt. 6.12 Kevin Curtis WR Philly I think Donovon McNabb will have a really good year inspite of his schedule, and I wanted a Philly player that I could trade to Judy later in the season. I liked him at St Louis. Always my early WR's get hurt (see Lee Evans in 2007) so it was another dumb move.

7.03 Rashard Mendinhall RB Pitt I had 2 good RB's but people in RIFC preach a lot of high quality RB's, and I liked him in a preseason game I saw. Young RB's come on later in season and I wanted some quality insurance if my starters go down. He may have some goal line carries. Also, Willie Parker missed some time last year. Also, I did not like the WR's that were available here. Then the quality LB's started going and I had to get some soon. 8.12 Lofa Tatupu LB Seattle I wanted a quality MLB here and Judy took him last year. Seattle plays a fairly easy schedule for a division winner, and it is a weak division. He does defense the pass well also. Besides, everyone needs a player from the local team! I am a homer. Yea Mariners. 9.03 Aaron Kampman DL GB I was going to get some quality defensive players even if I had to ignore my bench offensive players. I do like the defensive players for GB and SD. I wanted one quality DL before a run started on them. My source had him as 2nd DL overall. 10.12 Anthony Gonzalenz I think here is where I found out that Curtis was injured and I decided to get a starter while I could. It sounded like maybe Harrison would be a little slow to start season, and I thoght he would be best WR here. 11.03 Antonio Cromartie DB San Diego I remember his FG return last year and SD plays a very easy schedule. I wanted some quality defensive players so continued here. He was 5th DB on my source. 12.12 Vincent Jackson WR SD I like SD and I think defenses will not key on him with Chambers, Gates and LT. I still needed a 3rd WR or TE starter so I went WR here. 13.03 Patrick Kerney DL Seattle This was another homer pick, but I really liked his energy last year. My source had him 4th of all DL. The Seattle defensive line should be a lot better this year. A lot of defensive players were going to be gone before I picked again. 14.12 Channing Crowder MLB Mia I was looking for MLB here for Flex position starter and he was highest rated. Another AFC East division player.

13.05 Roman Harper, DB, NO
Harper ranked in the top 3 DBs in the 3 lists I most use. The physically talented Harper was coming back from a torn ACL last season and should be more explosive this year; he was said to struggle in coverage sometimes and more experience may help. Projected for as many as 100 tackles in my favourite source and adds a few sacks and INTs at strong safety..

15.03 David Thornton MLB Tenn I could not believe that MLB for Tenn was still available here so I grabbed him. He must be injured. He was 13th on my LB list and a MLB. He will probably start one of my Flex positions. Did I say how bad my IDP's were last year? 16.12 Chad Pennington QB Mia I was shocked he was still here. I thought he looked very good in his previous preseason game, and I think he is highly motivated to have a good year. He will not start a lot if Brees is healthy, but he is another AFC East player with a good schedule. 17.03 Tim Hightower RB Arizona Another young RB, but Edgerrin seems to get hurt a lot. I do not like Arizona Cardinals players, but he did look good in a preseason game I watched. It seemed to me that there were a lot of RB's taken already, and I only had 3. 18.12 Nate Kaeding K San Diego I needed a TE, but teams before my next pick had good ones already. I needed a K soon, but I thought the good ones would go in round 19 so I went with another SD player. 19.03 Jeff King TE Carolina I think that Delhomme will throw to him a lot, and face it, a LOT of good TE's were gone. I also looked at Carlson TE Seattle here, but rookie TE's can be clueless. 20.12 Brad Smith WR NYJ This is a reach, but I think that Brett finds the #3 WR as well as any QB. Another AFC East player. I wanted some additional WR options. 21.03 Buffalo Bills DT I have always liked their defense, and the December weather helps. They play in AFC East also, and usually have good special teams. 22.12 Derrick Ward RB NYG I saw a write up that he was the 2nd RB not Bradshaw so I thought he was worth a 22nd round pick. Someone has to be on the bench!! 23.03 Atari Digby DB GB I like their defense. He was 10th DB on my source, and I liked both his names. He must be a tough guy. 24.12 I have no idea who I got?!

14.10 DeShaun Foster, RB, SF
Probably my pick most deserving of criticism. Handcuff to Gore. Might not have gone for quite a while but in RIFC the last few years it seems somebody is always picking up my handcuffs a round or 2 or 3 earlier than I expect, ticking me off. I've already missed out on Ray Rice (9.07), McGahee's handcuff who may also have returning responsibilities. If Gore goes down I must trust in Martz to use Foster productively. Went at 17.14 in RIFC and I don't mind going a few rounds early for this one.

5.06 Roddy White Went with best receiver available at this spot. If he can replicate last seasons numbers he is well worth this pick. Considering he got last seasons numbers with the coaching flips flops and awful quarterbacks, rookie starter *undrafted* cant be too much work.
An interesting thing about this pick is that I had planned to take a 2nd tightend from this position. I think the top 5 or 6 tight ends are better than a lot of the second tier wide receivers at this point in the draft. But when both Gonzalez and Winslow went before it got back to me I had to somewhat abandon that strategy. I had also hoped Shockey or Clark would last until round 7 and I would have taken one of them but it was not to be.
6.09 Rudi Johnson I originally thought this was a value pick. getting a normally solid starter with an injury bug in the sixth round seemed a bit of a steal. but now there are trade rumors swirling around him. He is supposedly getting playing time in the final preseason game. Hopefully i dont run into RB injuries because I am really thin at that position. That being said, last season I had Ronnie Brown, rudi johnson, and Deuce McCallister as my first three picks. All three missed quite a few games and I still managed to make a playoff run so maybe RB depth is overrated.
7.06 Donald Driver Another value pick. I couldnt believe he dropped this far. last year he had a ton of receptions but only managed to find the end zone a few times due to the emergence of Jennings. This year I think driver will continue to get a lot of receptions and yards and like with Willie Parker I hope his TD numbers regress towards a higher mean.
8.09 Kirk Morrison A LB machine. I have him rated as a top ten LB and had him on my team last year and enjoyed having him. I was targeting a few other guys who I had rated higher but decided to stick with the name I knew.
9.06 NY Giants I was torn between team defense and another LB at this spot. i thought some LBs would make it back to me but they did not so I do somewhat regret this pick. I saw the Giants high on a few cheat sheets and didn't do a lot of research into it. With Osi now out and Strahan gone I am not sure if they are worth this pick at all. i also think the cheat sheets might have been heavily based off of last years stats. not a good pick by me.
10.09 Demarcus Ware After missing out on the top linebackers I thought would be here i decided to stick with the position. Ware is not a tackle machine like most of the top rated guys but hopefully he makes up for it with a good sack and int total.
11.06 Joey Galloway Another value pick I think. A #1 wide receiver in the 11th round. If he can keep himself healthy this pick will be a good value for me. He has not been practicing but it honestly seems like he has not practiced in the last several years and he has been doing fine.

23.14 Matt Ryan QB ATL Needed backup QB and took a shot with Ryan. Don't expect a lot but if turns out to be decent I keep him. If he performs poorly I exchange him for the first guy to show somw promise in the early season or the first injury replacement.
24.01 Amani Toomer WR NYG Injured but should be solid for replacement purposes. Always a tough choice deciding which positions to backup since we only have 9 slots and RB are so sought after several spots go without backup.

21.09 Shayne Graham, K, CINN With my final 4 picks I wanted a K, DEF, DB, and DL. Even though a top tier kicker in the preseason rankings can bust and vice verse, I decided to go with a K in this round since there would be no problem finding players from these other 3 positions.
22.06 Denver, DEF I needed a DEF to use during NE's bye week. Denver seemed to have the best match up.

15.05 Kawika Mitchell, LB, Buf
Finally a Bill, someone to cheer even harder for on Sunday. Not ranked as highly as this in most places. But on the weak side, he will grab more tackles than Crowell; hard to tell whether Pozlunsky will "steal" tackles from him. My preferred source considers him a lock for 90-100 tackles, so I was willing to pick him up here. Bye week considerations already starting to affect decisions here. Nothing's more frustrating than having to release a skill player because you have IDPs with identical BYEs and seeing the guy starting for someone else 2 weeks later. Keith Brooking and A.J. Hawk, the next 2 LBs selected I would have been interested in, both have bye week conflicts.

23.09 Chris Hope, DB, TENN Hope had 121 tackles and 5 INTs in 2006, but his stats fell considerably in 2007 due to injury. If he returns to preinjury form, he would be one of the top DBs and a real sleeper.
24.09 Aaron Schobel, DL, BUF Another sleeper?? Schobel had 12 sacks in 2005 and 14 in 2006. Injuries to Buffalo's defensive line meant frequent double teaming resulting in only 6.5 sacks last year. Buffalo signed Marcus Stroud in the off season, and his presence should enable Schobel to return to his sack totals of previous seasons.

16.10 Derrick Brooks, LB, TB
The old warhorse returns to my team one more time. Has declined in the past 2 years from previous production, and at 35 I guess no one is safe, but indications I have seen expect him to be able to maintain his current level, which will mean 100 tackles. Bye week (10) fits, and makes it easy to dump him for some young upcoming stud whose bye week has passed earlier on, if necessary.

18.10 Ronald Curry, WR, Oak
This was supposed to be an IDP pick, but as I was putting my queue together, Drew Carter, who was competing with Curry for PT, was injured cementing Curry who had been on my lists earlier for late WR picks, as the Raiders' #2; Rotoworld now projects him to lead the Raiders in targets, probably by a long shot, and has raised his projection to 70 catches. If JaMarcus Russell ever figures out how to play QB, who knows what could happen.

17.05 Greg Olsen, TE, Chi
Was planning on waiting longer to pick up a tight end, but, as like last year, managers began putting pressure on by selecting backup TEs, so I had to take a good look at who was left and who I was likely to end up with if I literally waited until the end. As many as 8 more could be selected if people keep picking up backups. Most of these could well be as good as Olsen this year, but I believe Olsen to have the biggest upside. A former #1 choice, he undoubtedly has the talent. He shares time with [undrafted tight end] but that doesn't bother me, as it makes him less likely to be injured while out there trying to do something he can't do. I have read all kinds of wild stories about things the Bears intenbd to do to get the ball to Olsen more often. I don't place any hope in them, really -- I rely on the belief that when you have a sad sad QB situation, the TE is often the only guy he can get the ball to -- and Olsen will do some things with it when he can catch it.
If Olsen had not been available I would have waited and taken the leavings.

22.14 Oshiomogho Atogwe DB STL
I've been eyeing this guy for the last 4 picks. But I just knew he had a great chance to be there for me next time. Then it cmae aorund to me again and I thought the same thing. Well he wasn't going to get back to me again. I feel this guy is a real value pick. He will get plenty of opps and his INT numbers are high. The Rmas are on D a lot so more chances. 23.01 Deion Branch WR SEA
Branch is out for at least the first few weeks it seems. This could be a wasted pick. But he was doing well before his ACL injury. It generally takes a full year before the player starts acting like his old self--if ever. I eh could be out for say the first 6 weeks then come back and produce then I'm fine with that. Most likely, even if he comes back he won't put up great numbers this season--hence the late-round flier.
24.14 Antonio Pittman RB STL
Reaching here. Planned to take Buckhalter here but he went off before me. I guess with all the other RBs taken that people wouldn't be taking yet another RB in the last round, but they did. It's a smart move--esp. if they don't need another position. Might as well take a shot. Here I'm just looking for a #2 if possible in case of an injury. Pittman is the only #2 I could find left, so I grabbed him. Could be WW fodder soon.

19.05 Jason Wright, RB, Cle
Now that my IDP choices are constrained by bye-week requirements, I'm now starting to look for RBs who may move up to a starting role, ideally pre-season, but if not, later on when the #1 goes down. Having one of these guys can change a season. Admittedly, they mostly seem to emerge suddenly and get picked up off the WR, rather than being guyz who have been held since the beginning, but to me it's worthwhile to grab them now. The last league I won, I grabbed Willie Parker in the last round; a few weeks later he became a starter.
The good thing about Wright is that Jamal Lewis is as likely a high-tier RB as any to be a candidate to flop, through injury or inability. Bruising style, susceptible to injury, had YPCs of 3.4 and 3.6 before his rejuvenation last year.
The bad thing about Wright is that it's not clear that he's very good, even good enough to fend off [undrafted RB] and keep the job if Lewis goes down.
Wright, like anyone else picked up on spec from here on, is a candidate to be dropped early, or even before the season, if there is a new skill position sleeper, or an IDP need.

I don't know a thing about him, except that he is a MLB in the mid range for tackles (~87 the last 2 years). And he plays for AZ who could be on defense a lot. Probably will be dropped when I need bye week subs unless he proves to be a stud before then!

21.11 Kevin Jones, RB, CHI there are not many backup RBs available. Some may be a 2A or 2B, but I see Jones ahead of Adrian Peterson which makes him draftable in case Forte, the Rookie starter, is not as good s everyone thinks. As every year the last few rounds is like throwing darts and this is my 1st throw. I'll throw a few more in the next rounds.
22.04 Rashied Davis, WR, CHI do we know the starting QB in CHI already. I think so, but he is still undrafted. Usually that is not good for a receiver on that team. So I am throwing my 2nd dart and pick Rashied Davis. It looks like he is starting and has good chemistry with the new starting QB. I don't know how well that combo will look in the regular season and how long those 2 will be able to show their talent, but I would not know that with many other available WRs. lets wait a few games and decide then if this was a good choice or if he is simply waiver wire fodder.
23.11 Keyunta Dawson, DL, DEN we all need a DL, and after the first few went (too high), all the others are nearly the same, or otherwise their potential production can not be accurately projected. Dawson was a sleeper of mine. He looks good in camp, will see lots of plays, he was under the radar because it was not sure that he will start. I assumed that and got confirmed yesterday. he is the starter. yikes! we will see if he can perform like expected.
24.04 Phil Dawson, K, CLE and finally a kicker. I thought about not going with a kicker a round ago but decided otherwise, so I went DL, K with my last 2 picks. Interesting is that Dawson is pretty high on some of the projections out there in the www. getting a top-kicker is not predictable. we are getting told this every year and every year a few kickers get drafted too early and every year those top-kickers are not so top come playoff time. we will see if I got lucky with Dawson.

7.10 Minnesota Vikings D
I like to pick a D relatively early, hopefully getting a good one. Minny has a proven track record over the last few years and with no major personnel changes, they should be good again. Of course, this can blow up in your face like it did to me when I chose Chicago in round 6. Problem was the Chicago offense was inept and the D was always on the field. Hopefully the Vikes will not experience this malady this year.

20.10 Kenny Watson, RB, Cin
Took one last look at backup RBs here before looking to another IDP. Rudi Johnson it now seems is apparently real banged up, and not a sure starter. Chris Perry is the putative starter and has a world of potential but there seem to be a lot of doubts about him. Last year, Kenny Watson ended up being the Tigers' surprise best RB this year(763 yards, 4.3 AVG, 7 TDs), and I see no reason why he might not end up as the starter again. This is the last guy I see as a good RB flyer so i'll grab him while he's here.
Kenny went at 14.14 in RIFC so this is at least not a silly pick.

21.05 Calvin Pace, LB, NYJ
OK, no more funning around with RB backups. Need some IDPs now. Avoiding BYE week doubling key. 2 possible choices here: Pace, and Justin Tuck. I like Tuck (21.13) but not his week 4 bye. Don't want a DL with an early bye, requiring me to drop a skill backup for another DL slug. So Pace is it.
Not too old, makes a few tackles and sacks, likely to be playing. Question is how he will do under a new scheme. With a bye week of 5, he can be kept if he starts to star, dropped if he doesn't.
Later picked at 21.12 in RIFC, around the same general place.

22.10 Marcus Trufant, DB, Sea
Could have gone either with a DL or a backup DB/flex player here. Trufant was very highly rated and had an appropriate bye week for a flex. He's a CB, which I usually avoid, but led his secondary in tackles last year, plus adding 7 picks. Signed to a $50M contract in the off-season; hope he doesn't get lazy.

8.05 Jurious Norwood, RB, ATL Norwood will be the change-of-pace back now that Michael Turner has blown into town. Turner has a mere 11 receptions during his four-year NFL career, while Norwood is a proven, dangerous receiver out of the backfield. He also has the burst and top-end speed to gain yardage in chunks. Turner will certainly get the majority of PT, but Norwood should be good as my bye week back.
9.10 Mike Peterson, LB, JAC By now some IDPs are coming off the board and I’m ready to pick one. Peterson is in the last year of a big contract and he’s looking for a new one. So he is extra motivated, I would imagine especially since he’s missed major parts of the last 2 seasons due to injuries. He’s a MLB in what should be a pretty good D.
10.05 Darrell Jackson, WR, DEN Now that he’s escaped from SF, I’m expecting a return to excellence for DJ. He should benefit from Denver’s ability to run the ball and Cutler’s strong arm. With Brandon Marshall the number 1 WR, Jackson should face more single coverage than he has in the past. That can only help him as he tries to return to a prominent role as a receiver.
11.10 Bob Sanders, DB, IND One of my favorite players to watch on TV. If Sanders is healthy, he's the leader of the defense and a guaranteed starter. But he needs to be on the field. A healthy Sanders is almost a lock for a top 15 finish amongst safeties with an upside in the top five, as he's a tackle machine back there. With Peterson, another injury risk, this could become problematic if both are deemed questionable week to week and eat up valuable space on my bench.

12.05 Jason Campbell, QB, WASH I was looking for a bye week QB with a winnable game, more so than Campbell himself. Maybe not the best approach, but who knows, the Skins play the Rams at home in week 6. As an Eagle’s and Panther’s fan, I hope that’s one of the only games Washington wins this year. And the Skins will play a west coast offense, so should be lots of passing and scoring.
13.10 Donnie Edwards, LB, KC We are into the part of the draft where the highest projected IDPs, especially LBs are flying off the board. Rumor has it that Edwards is being moved inside to make room for (undrafted player). That should put him in line to approach the 90 solo tackle mark and threaten to finish in the top fifteen LBs overall. Production I can live with.

14.05 D’Qwell Jackson, QB, CLE Keeping a good thing going by picking another LB. Jackson is a player who could go either way in '08. If things go well he could be a top 20 linebacker. Or WW fodder. A Whopping 58 LB were picked in this draft. Hopefully, ILB in the Browns 3, 4 D is worth something. Never had a player on my team named D’Qwell.
15.10 TJ Duckett, RB, SEA I’m a bit constrained by bye weeks, with this pick, so finding value was not easy, but I hope I’m lucky here. Duckett is certainly the third wheel on his team and may not see significant PT unless one of the others gets injured. However, he has experience as a 3rd down/goal line back and I’m hoping that this is why the Seahawks signed him.

16.05 San Francisco Defense Once again, a bye week replacement that plays a specific week’s game at home against an opponent I think/hope they can beat. Certainly better Ds remained on the board at the time of this pick, but at this point I only plan to use them to cover the Viking’s bye week which is only one of 2 weeks with 6 teams on a bye. So one less game to pick from. 17.10 LeRon Landry, DB, WASH Landry's outlook is entirely dependent on how much opportunity he can find within the responsibilities he's given. If Landry is left to roam the secondary as a centerfielding FS behind a stud tackling MLB like Fletcher, he's unlikely to be worth much. If he's used in-the-box often enough, or at least interchangeably, he's got much better potential. Again, bye week constraints limited my choices.
18.05 Ben Watson, TE, NE Major screw up, here. My folks came to visit a few days after this draft started and I was preparing to go out with them when this pick came up. I was totally distracted and failed to check the bye week of my other TE. I’m not particularly unhappy about the pick, as Watson often saw single coverage for easy scoring chances last year. He should again rank in the top-12 fantasy tight ends but is always a risk to miss games with injuries.

19.10 David Patton, WR, NO Bye week fill in or match up guy, Patten should post another 700-800 yards receiving without any trouble in the Saints' explosive offense. Valuable WR depth.
20.05 Adewale Ogunleye, DL, CHI Just because I don’t care for the Bears D, does not mean I do not like Bears defensive players. Coming off a trip to the Super Bowl, the Bears struggled last year in pretty much all phases. The offense couldn't move the chains and the defense couldn't get off the field. This led to much higher than usual tackle numbers for Ogunleye. It doesn't look like much has changed with the Bears personnel so I expect him to finish with 40+ solo tackles and at least 8 or 9 sacks.

They generally say not to pick K's until the last round -- but I'm not sure that advice is good in IDP leagues. I had to scope around here. 8 gone...6 to go. Want to have different byes for TE/TeamDef/PK. Other than that, any better than anyone else? Not really, but I like Bryant's schedule better. All of December in warm weather. And Tampa Bay should stall in the opposition's half lots this year, making for lots of FGs. I'll keep that last round pick open for the surprise announcement, "Joe Nobody has just been anointed Team Z's feature back this year..."

21.10 Ray Edwards, DL, MIN The third Edwards brother on my team (<: Ray enters his third year in the NFL with a firm hold on a starting DE spot opposite Jared Allen. The Vikings have one of the best defensive lines in the league and with Allen on the other side of the line, Edwards should have plenty of pass rushing opportunities.
22.05 Kris Brown, K, HOU I like to have a kicker who kicks indoors or kicks for a warm weather team. Brown is of the former.
23.10 Josh Scobee, K, JAC See 22.05 Kris Brown. Scobee is the latter.

24.10 Chris Taylor, RB, Hou
This slot was saved for a DL, what as I don't have none and will get 0 points every game all season if I don't start one in games. This would probably substantially hurt my playoff chances.
However, after I had set up my queue with DLs, 2 sources reported that this Taylor guy, who is reportedly a running back of some kind, on Houston's roster, could well end up as the starter in Houston, with Ahman Green or Chris Brown or both being released. The most likely beneficiary of these developments, rookie Steve Slaton, had already been grabbed at 13.13. This Taylor fellow was taken at 21.09 in RIFC, which was running about 3 rounds behind us, so one of the big boys must have seen the same types of reports that I had.
One of my many backup RBs will have to be released (or traded to someone who wants a handcuff -- hint, hint) before Opening Day, but since this league has been run so smoothly, I can wait till next week before deciding who I choose to release and which of the many competent DLs around I decide to pick up to score the typical DL 4 tackles and 1 sack.

4th Pick - If I had thought about it more, I would've taken the 5th or 6th pick. I didn't want to chance Barber not being there. I expect huge things for him this year. I had target Barber and Maroney for my first two picks and that's what I got so it all worked out.
1.04 Marion Barber, RB, DAL Marion, "The Barbarian" Barber has the ability to be a workhouse. With the departure of Julius Jones, he now has the reins. I expect him to take full advantage of that. Splitting time with Jones last year, he still finished as a Top 10 back. A new Jones is now in the fold, but I think we'll see quite a bit of both of them and Felix will complement Barber nicely. More about him later...
2.11 Laurence Maroney, RB, NE With my first two picks, I have two horses in the backfield. I enjoy both Maroney and Barber's running style. I always prefer a runningback who'd rather run you over then try to run around you. Maroney is a bowling ball and I expect him to strike through many defenders. If the playoffs are any indication, Maroney will have a much bigger role this year. I expect more consistency and good numbers with him running for an explosive offensive unit.
3.04 Roy Williams, WR, DET Time for a WR at this point. Roy Williams has been one of my favorite players, going back to his days at UT. He's a big, physical, and fast man on a mission this year. Their were rumors of him being traded. I see this motivating him. It doesn't hurt that he's in a contract year either.
4.11 Marvin Harrison, WR, IND Harrison's career is slowly coming to an end. However, this isn't a keeper league and I still see Starvin Marvin as a solid number 2 this year. I believe he slid some due to age and Manning being hurt. I'll take my chances. Harrison is a model of consistency when healthy.
5.04 Laveranues Coles, WR, NYJ Everyone is talking about Favre and Cotchery's developing chemistry. However, I like the fact that Favre has compared Coles to Driver. Coles had been very durable until last year. If he can stay healthy, this is great value.
6.11 Felix Jones, RB, DAL Not gonna lie, this is a bit of a homer pick(I am a diehard Cowboys fan). With that said, this pick also gives me insurance on my number 1 pick. There has been plenty of talk of having a backfield of both Jones and Barber. This will only increase his value. He should be a solid 3rd down back and a factor in the return game. If the season goes the way I want, Jones will only be needed as a bye-week replacement.
7.04 Jeremy Shockey, TE, NO Health has been an issue with Shockey here recently. When he's healthy, he's a pro bowler. I still remember that first preseason game his rookie year when he ran over a DB. He has incredible ability. He is also very motivated this year after being cast-off by the Giants. I see a motivated Shockey in a loaded NO offense as a good combo.
8.11 Vince Young, QB, TEN QB will, without a doubt, be my biggest question mark going into this year. Young was brilliant in college, but hasn't found the rhythm yet in the NFL. A new OC has come in and has promised to put Young in the shotgun more. The physical ability is there. He just needs to put it all together.
9.04 Jon Beason, LB, CAR Beason was great for me last year so why not take him again this year. I see him as a top 5 LB. Dan Connor in the mix could hurt his value, but I see Beason being too much of a beast to lose playing time this year.
10.11 Derrick Mason, WR, BAL I wanted to get another WR here. There were some guys with more upside than Mason, but in the end I decided to play it safe. Mason should be a nice target for the rook Flacco. With Heap commanding attention in the middle, Mason will see plenty of one on one matchups on the outside. Even at his age, he can still beat a man one on one.

11.04 Oakland Raiders Defense The Raiders have a great DC in Ryan. Tommie Kelley is now healthy. They also added Wilson and Hall in the secondary. They also have two studs at LB in Morrison and Howard. This unit is close to climbing into the top 10. I see it happening this year.
12.11 Roy Williams, DB, DAL Flat-out homer pick. Williams should not have gone this high, but I don't care. :-) Roy has taken some heat in the offseason and busted his ass to try and prove the critics wrong. DC Brian Stewart will work him closer to the line where he feels comfortable. I expect big hits and big hits...Did I say big hits?
13.04 Will Smith, DL, NO Smith was just rewarded with a nice contract. This worries me somewhat. He is in the prime of his career and arguably the best all-around DE in the league. I'm hoping for a career year.
14.11 Brandon Jackson, RB, GB Jackson has been great this preseason and Grant has been hurt. There stands a chance that Grant will have a nagging injury going into the year and maybe even longer. Jackson should take full advantage if given the opportunity. He learned alot from last year.
15.04 Derrick Johnson, LB, KC Johnson is surrounded by two good LBs, Edwards and Williams. He is a freak of nature and can rack up the tackles. His pursuit to the ball puts him in the mix whenever he is on the field.
16.11 Javon Walker, WR, OAK Walker is a wildcard. I'm really not sure what to expect out of him. I think I could do worse though for a 5th WR. Health has been a huge problem lately. If he is healthy, Walker could excel with Jamarcus rifling balls to him.
17.04 Tavaris Jackson, QB, MIN Ugh, I don't like this pick at all. If I have to use him for more than 1 week, I am in trouble.
18.11 Shaun Phillips, LB, SD Merriman gets all the hype, but Phillips is no slouch. I expect double digit sacks and huge numbers out of him.
19.04 Nick Folk, K, DAL Folk was the number 1 kicker last year. Why not this year?
20.11 Charles Tillman, DB, CHI Tillman is a top 10 DB. He also can pile up the tackle numbers. Tillman has been very consistent and that's all I can ask for at this point in the draft.
21.04 Carolina Panthers Defense This will be a bye-week hold. The Panthers still have some names though with Peppers, Beason and Marshall.
22.11 Kevin Boss, TE, NYG Boss' play last year made Shockey expendable. He finds himself, once again, behind Shockey on the depth chart. He just doesn't know it this time. ;-)
23.04 Antrel Rolle, DB, ARI Rolle is hurt right now and I'm guessing that's why he slid. He has moved to safety which will put his playmaking skills into effect even more. He could also be a factor in the return game.
24.11 Joey Porter, LB, MIA Porter had his glory days in a 3-4 defense scheme with Pittsburgh. Joey definitely has to be happy with Parcells running the show. I shouldn't need Porter for more than just bye weeks.

21.12 Arizona Cardinals, DEF ARI
With the Cowboys as my top D, I was most concerned about weeks 1 (CLE), 5 (CIN), and 10(BYE). I was looking for a backup DEF with good matchups in that week. I found that Arizona plays SF, Buf, and SF in those three weeks. I find those to be very good matchups for my fillin DEF, along with a few other less-than-stellar opponents elsewhere.

22.03 Nate Clements, DB SFO
Here's another player from last years team. Nate played well for me in the second half of the year, and I hope it continues again this year. He's near the top of the charts in most IDP rankings that I've seen and has a nice bye week. Hopefully I can start him and forget him for the first half of the season.

23.12 Hank Baskett, WR PHI If there's one thing I learned from last year, it's that I won't be able to get many Eagles on my team when judy's in my league. I'm a big Eagle fan so this is disappointing. Finally I found an Eagle that I could add w/o feeling like I was overpaying. Baskett has been named as the 2nd wideout while Curtis is out. This can be his chance to make some noise early in the season. Most likely I won't need him after week 6, so this fits pretty well for me.
I knew in Rd 21-24 I needed a DEF (21), a DB (22), and a K. This pick was the only one that I was questioning. I considered a variety of IDPs (My roster is currently only carrying the magic 6), and even a couple of backup RB (Taylor and Buckhalter). In the end I felt I might be more in need of a WR than the other positions, so I put my biscuit in the Baskett.

24.03 John Kasay, K CAR
WIth only a kicker required, I first looked at Crosby, who I thought was available. Unfortunately, Dror had snatched him up after he missed his Rd 23 pick. That left me looking at Reed and Kasay primarily. I opted for Kasay because of his later bye week and more kicker-friendly schedule.

19.06 Jamarcus Russell
I waited way too long to get a backup QB. I think if you have one of the top 4 QBS you dont need to concentrate much on a backup becuase he will basically only be for the bye week but if you have anyone from the 5th QB on you will want to play matchups. So with Romo on the squad I wasnt real worried about it, but I would have liked to have gotten someone a little more proven. Hopefully Romo stays healthy and I only have to use Jamarcus once.

20.09 Arnaz Battle
I have no idea about this pick. I vaguely remember him being decent a few years ago. I could not tell you if he was starting or retired or what. My round 20-24 preparedness was quite low so you may see these guys on the waiver wire soon.

21.06 Justin Smith DL
Once again not real prepared but I vaguelt remember seeing Smith listed as someone who plays LB with DL eligibility. If that is true then this might be a decent pick.

22.09 Josh Cribbs
I am hoping he gets some decent time at WR while still returning kicks. He was a great kick returner before being injured I think.

23.06 Washington Defense
I really seem to have punted team def this year. I had to grab someone from this spot and I dont think they will be too terrible. I will probably be playing waiver wire roulette with the defenses.

24.09 Michael Bennett
I tried to grab a RB in this round who at least appeared on a depth chart somewhere. I guess if I dont believe Graham will get it done and Dunn won't be a feature back anymore then Bennett might see some time.

Apparently a forgoten rationale...
12.14 Gebril Wilson DB OAK
Best DB available and a big tiem DB at that. More than one site had him as the best DB overall. Compared to other positions, I felt that I had to take him since he was def. going to be starting every week.
13.01 Michael Boley LB ATL
I felt this guy had slipped. I could use another LB and I think he has upside too. So I felt he was a little better than his porjections AND he slipped. Value pick.

3.08 Steve Smith, WR Car Smith may not be the nicest guy, but there are no questions about his ability as a receiver and with Delhomme back I'm hoping he gets back to being one of the premier wideout in the league. The 2 games suspenion lowered his value and will be long forgoten by the deciding weeks of the season, so it doesn't bother me at all.
4.07 Calvin Johnson, WR Det Johnson is a pyshical freak and was hyped as one of the top WR prospects of the decade last year, hopefully this year he will start to live up to those expectations. With a year of experience uder his belt, I'm looking for a monster year from him.
5.08 Selvin Young, RB Den Taking a Denver RB is allways risky, but Young looks like the #1 option there and hopefully he will keep up the job for the entire year. If that happens he will be a steal in the 5th round.
6.07 Chester Taylor, RB Min Adrian Peterson is great, but he has proven to be injury prone at any level so far in his career, and Taylor have proven to be more then capable of putting great numbers if he gets the chance.
7.08 Chris Johnson, RB Ten 5th RB and it's onlt the 7th round... Johnson looks great in the preseason and appears to allready command a good share of the carries in Tennessee. I'm hoping he will outperform White (not exactly a tough task) and get more touches by the 2nd half of the year.
8.07 Sidney Rice, WR Min Another 2nd year receiver. Rice is big, talented and starting, and with the Vikings monster running game leading the way he is expected to see a lot of single coverage. There are some questions about the guy throwing the ball to him, but I guess nobody is perfect...
9.08 Matt Schaub, QB Hou Time for a QB. Schaub was the guy I wanted all along. He has a good arm, plenty of weapons, no running game and poor defense. Exactly the receipe for a John Kitna like season with tons of yardage and some garbage TDs.
10.07 Vernon Davis, TE SF Last year I picked Davis and it didn't exactly payed off, I'm hoping this year he will finnaly stay healthy and realize his potential as a big time receiving TE.
11.08 Stewart Bradley, LB Phi He is the new starting MLB for the Eagles, so the opportunity is there for monster tackle numbers.
12.07 Matt Leinart, QB Ari Obviously I would'nt have picked him if I knew he wasn't going to be the starter, hopefully he will get himself together in a few weeks.
Keith Rivers, LB Cin Rivers might be a rookie, but he is allready the best LB on the Bengals team and god knows this defense is gonna make a lot of tackles this year.
Chad Greenway, LB Min Greenway is now 2 years removed from his knee surgery and posted more then 100 tackles while not playing on every down last year.
