Stuff from older thread -- the oops one:

from davepyro:

My que is up and available. It is short, but Judy has my cell number. Give me half an hour warning, and I will try to
keep things going. Use my que after half an hour on clock if someone is still there.

Ref - be ready -- once we turn the corner we could fly -- lots of Q's filled and available -- starting with Loki -- if
the Q's don't run out, it'll probably take only 10 minutes or so.

I wonder where E'ville is? He is usually a morning picker!

My queue is ready for Rd 14. You can also use it for Rd 15 if we get there, as long as 15 is a different position than what I get in Rd 14. I am leaving soon until the evening, probably 9pm DST. Please don't use this queue for Rd 16, even if there actually is someone left in it.

No problem -- I was just hoping it was not a repeat of last Friday!

Once MJD picks we will roll to the top as fast as I can type with a small pause for Davepyro.

and roll we did..

Toral and Loki need to reset their Q's for 15 and I need to be careful with Swing.

Swing is NOT set for round 16.

Uh oh I think I screwed it up.

Per a notice last night, Loki's Q was for 13.9 only and I picked for him in round 14. I've sent an
email to Ref to not pick (rather than officially stop the draft).

I sent an email to Loki and will wait for his reply.

So sorry.

The reason I am not stopping the draft officially is that then you cannot play with your Q's.

Once Loki contacts me, I'll let you know what is happening.

Heard from Loki, emailed Ref, we are good to go again. PHEW!

Once Ref picks, we will be running the table (assuming Q's are not picked dry) back to Loki in round
15. Round 16 could start tonight as well with a small pause for Swing to reconfigure his Q for 16.

OK -- I will be in transit for the next ~45 min, Once Ref picks, I'll be good to go - Dave will either pick while I am
out, or I'll call him about the guy in his Q.

Do all contact with me tonight via the thread -- I am stuck with just web mail and it times out too soon.

Loki, Toral and Swing (only if it is not a TE) are set just for round 15!

Back shortly!

a car then ferry for about 8 hours (ugh). My only connection is via the iPhone and I
will try to keep updated on that -- not while driving though:)

For my picks, once the IDP's are gone, take only one of each position for OFF. I hope
the Q lasts. I should be back on the computer by 5/6 pm EDT...

Thanks -- you've done great work so far!!

Jason Taylor was carted off the field writhing in pain after injuring his knee tonight. This after I just drafted him at 14.06. Well at least he wasn't one of my higher picks. Hopefully for him, not me, the injury is not too serious.

Some interesting FYI for you.

Matt Ryan was the QB at the high school I taught at: William Penn Charter in Philly -- the oldest Quaker school in the world! I did not teach him as I taught Middle School Physics and Earth Science and he did not come to PC until the ninth grade. I've spoken with some of his classmates and they are in awe -- mostly because of the massive money he is making!! Sean Singletary (UVA BB) also went to PC.

Kafe is back up - phew. Here is an important FanBall rule once the draft is complete:

Free Agent Deadlines
During the preseason, league members are allowed to make their own free agent acquisitions:
Always

So as soon as the draft is complete you can start to tweak your lineup.

Remember that you must start a player at each of the 15 starter positions or your whole team gets a "0" for the day,
so you MUST have each position(s) covered. More on that later, but I noticed a few holes left on the draft grid.

As I recall wavers are run for 48 hours after the draft, then post draft claims are run, and then free agents may be picked up.

OOPS
READ CAREFULLY

BEFORE we begin to tweak lineups, every manager must check in here to indicate that they have entered all their players into their
FANBALL team -- otherwise, someone might take your drafted player and that would NOT BE GOOD.

SO, when you have placed all your players onto your FanBall team, please so indicate in this thread.

Footwedge -- with 24.01 you would be the first to be able to do so! Start us off!

Once all 14 mangers have signed in here, then you can tweak!

I think YR is asleep, so we'll probably finish up tomorrow. We are well ahead of the other RIFC leagues and this

Do not pick # 24 for Loki -- as per #78 at 2 pm today.

Roster good.

Hey Judy, 4 Skins, but no cowgirls on my team.

I guess it doesn't suck too bad, eh?

Hey mjd, I have six Eagles -- all on offense!!! I wasn't really trying to do that -- it just happened. It will
either blowup in my face or I will be OK.

And, of course, I do not have any Cowgirls on my team either -- never will.

Please do not continue until Loki checks in that Schobel is OK.

Loki did not make his #24 pick himself so I am going to wait until he checks in here (or times out around
noon) that Schobel is OK for him, before we go on. Unless his DP'er had a memo to do so. Let me know.

If Schobel is OK, then rest of us are good with Q's up to B7 and Ref.

Who will be the last pick in our draft???

Re: 107-Judy, I think that it is common to have a disproportionate number of players from your home town team since these players are generally more familiar to us. During the draft I noticed that this was happening to me, and I ended up with 4 NYJs and 2 NYGs.

Judy:

Here's a post from Guru in the RIFC 2007 thread (post 281 in this thread) explaining the way post-draft pickups were handled last year in RIFC:
I'll post this in blue so it stands out amidst the late rationales.

All rosters now have 24 players, and I hope they are the correct 24. Let me know if you notice any error.

I have now locked out teams from being able to pick up free agents. We are now in the post-draft claiming period. At noon (ET) on Saturday, all submitted claims for undrafted players will be processed, using even numbered draft round priorities. If you wish to claim an undrafted player (along with dropping one of your drafted players, of course), you must submit your claim at the Fanball site. You may submit as many claims as you wish. If you do, prioritize them appropriately.

After the claims have been awarded and I have confirmed that everything seems to have run properly, I will enable free agent pickups. During this time, dropped players will be subject to waivers (and waiver claims) for 48 hours.

This is the first year that Fanball has provided for preseason claims, so I hope it runs the way I expect it to.

See also this from post 262:
3. Once rosters are all set, they will be locked for two days. During that time, you may make claims for any undrafted players. Claim priorities will be in even round order. It appears that Fanball will be able to handle this processing automatically this preseason. (In past years, it had to be done manually.

Thanks Toral,

I did get all that, I just need to figure out exactly how to set it up in Fan Ball. I'll be checking in with GURU once I
think I have it correct. (Then I will need to set it back for the regular season.)

Toral-I saw in your post in the rationale thread that you are a Bill's fan. Are you from Buffalo? My wife and I went to school in Buffalo and have great memories from those years. There certainly was a lot of snow, but it never was a real problem as Buffalo could handle 15 inches better than NYC and Jersey towns (where I now live) can 5. By the way, why did you not draft Schobel?

Hi Loki. I always like playing with you because you're the only other guy on these boards who knows who Harry Wismer is....

I was born in Fort Erie, the small town across the river -- on the Canadian side -- from Buffalo.
Your school -- UB?

Schobel -- I was tempted to say this to you anyway -- sorry to say this but I didn't draft him because I don't think he's that good and never expect him to hit double-digit sacks again. Hope I'm wrong!

Between college and graduate school we lived in Buffalo for 7 years before moving back to NY. I frequently went to Fort Erie Race Track, but never saw any other part of the town. Is the track still standing? Do you remember the Canadian folk singers Ian and Sylvia? This is fully dependent on how old you are. When we were there, they had a weekly TV show originating in Toronto. I mention this because I recently saw Ian Tyson perform at Joe's Pub in NY. Concerning Harry Wismer, I still have ticket stubs from Titan games at the Polo Grounds. I would take my brother to games where there could not have been more than 2000 to 4000 fans present, but the Monday papers would report 40,000 to 50,000.

Fort Erie's race track's still there. I was there last Sunday. The infield's still beautiful -- actually one of the most attractive in North America -- , but the track is a shell of its former self. It's now dependent on slots, which take up about half the grounds. When you were there it would have hosted Ontario's A meet for a couple months in the summer. Those days are long gone. It now hosts basically the lowest levels of racing -- $5K maiden claimers, and the like -- except that the Prince of Wales, part of the Ontartio Triple Crown, is still held there. There are constant rumours that the track will close, although I heard a rumour on Sunday that someone negotiated a deal whereby the track cannot be closed unless the gambling areas are too, which would save it.

Most of my stories about Wismer were learned from Buffalo sportswriter Bob Curran's writings. His inflating the attendances was well known. A random Wismer story: it was said he used to greet people he didn't know with "Congratulations!" When asked why, he said, "Everybody's done something they're proud of and wish people would notice!".

My favorite columnist was Phil Rannalo. I do not recall whether he wrote for the AM paper or the then Buffalo Evening News, but he wrote a lot about horse racing. We would also go to Garden City Race Track in Ste. Catherine which had better quality trotters than either Batavia Downs or Buffalo Raceway. I know that Garden City and Batavia are now both defunct; I do not know the status of Buffalo Raceway.

Research is allowed. No time limit, and it should not be hard to find. If it is not familiar to you, then you must be younger than I thought for a man who is familiar with the NY Titans.

Got it. Twilight Zone episode, "The Mighty Casey". Can't say I remember the show.

Many (most? all?) TZ episodes are on UTube now. My favourite is "A Stop at Willoughby" (#6 on first list I found of top TZ episodes).

As for age/Titans -- I'm familiar with the Brooklyn Dodgers too, and they left town in the mid-50s!

I did not know that UTube had those shows. Thanks for the info. As for the Dodgers, they broke my heart when they moved to the coast, but at least they took the hated Giants with them. I stayed with the Dodgers, but my Dad and brother became Mets fans. Rooting for the Yankees would have been unthinkable.

OUR DRAFT IS COMPLETE!

We are the first RIFC league to finish.

Thank you all for making it a smooth process by using Q's, leaving messages in the thread, and trusting your
DP's to do the right thing. As you can tell, I am pretty "hands on" as a commish, but I hope that we did not
rush any of you into picking too soon.

The next steps include:
Put your roster into FanBall and post it in the thread that you have done so.
Finish up your rationales so that mike and I can enter them in an orderly (literally) fashion.

If you could do these things by Friday at noon EDT, that would be great.

Next week, we will open a new thread for a draft analysis where we critique our teams and take an evaluative
look at the others.

I am still in the process of figuring out the preseason claims, waivers and free agent add/drops, so do
not make any changes in your drafted roster.
I will send out an email and post in the thread when and
how to do those things.

Again, thank you so much for your cooperation. We should have a great season!!
