Posted by: judy - [597401015] Fri, Jul 24, 2009, 13:47

Hi everyone,

Please sign up here to join Judy's RIFC AAA league. We'll also do
all the draft order, etc., stuff here as well when the time is ripe.

Which site do you prefer??

FanBall or MyFantasyLeague?

Right now I am leaning to Fanball but only because we used it last year.
I would only consider MFL if GURU also uses it for the Big Boys so I
would have someone to help me with any issues that might arise.

Wolfer is going to use Fantrax for the other AAA (he has used it before)
-- if you prefer to go with that site, it is OK, just let me know.

I set up a league in MFL and it does look doable, but only if I have a
partner in crime -- the RIFC league -- just to make sure of some
of the tricky rule wordings esp for the waiver stuff. The rest looks like
FanBall with a few nice extra features about top players etc.

So cast your vote:

A) FanBall
B) MyFantasyLeague
C) Don't care.

I would like to join your AAA Judy. I think MFL will be better than Fantrax. Fantrax looks good overall except for the fact that I'm not seeing an option for double-headers (maybe it's there, but I'm not seeing it).

MFL looks very doable. Worked on it for a few hours today. I can't make it as
fancy as Culdeus's, but it will do what it is supposed to do.

I am willing to try it.

C) Don't care.

Fanball was OK the last few years. It had its drawbacks, but no major problems.

I don't know anything about MFL, but I am willing to give it a try if others think it has better features.

By my count, we need one more manager...

I've set up a league in MFL and I think it will work just fine. I'll be sending the scoring
settings to GURU for confirmation.

I'll send out invitations this week once we are all here so you can take a look at it. It does
have some nice customizable options for our home page that I played with. I think you
can customize the look of your own team page as well. I will be interested to hear what
you think about how it all looks... and what can be done to make it even better!!

E-man, not to worry about the dates. It'll work out.

stuff we need to do:

If you already know your team name, post it here. If you have a different owner name,
post that too. And while you are at it, post your Kafenatid name!
It really gets confusing. I'll email the list when it gets finalized!

judy - I played in a MFL 12 team league last year and the waiver wire is kind of goofy. You have all the players in a box on the left by position in alpa order and you have to find the free agents you want & move them to another box on the right. After you've selected who you want with your 1st round WW pickk depending on your WW position, (might be 14 players in our queue). You have to repeat the process for each round of the WW if you want to try for multiple players. It was a real pain in the place where the sun don't shine due to the time it took. And if you forgot to save - you have to start over on that round!

Other than that, the live stats worked and we played doubleheaders. They have realtime texting when you sign in to the site similar to yahoo so you can chat and also a message board. Their draft blows as it didn't send reminders or allow for surrogates. Never could get the handle of the trade mechanism, but as it turned out, I didn't need it. ;)

I'm deepsnapper on Kafenatid, Fanball, and MFL.

I'm willing to accept the two sets of random numbers from 1-14. If Judy gives the OK, send them to the email address attached to this post.

A couple of things I noticed while glancing through the scoring rules:

In the Offensive Points Against section, the values for which 7 points are rewarded should be 1-6 rather than 0-6. Otherwise, a shutout will be worth 17 points.

I don't remember 60+ yard FGs being treated differently than 50-59 yard FGs. I don't really care about this, as it will happen at most twice during the season, but I thought I should mention it.

The rest looked good to me during my cursory check.

Twilson -- thanks for volunteering -- looks like you should have the two sets by now. Show the work
in the thread, please. Thanks T for also looking over the rules.

I applied for the Kafenatid draft and will send out invites when I hear back.

re #36:
oops on the 0-6 -- I'll fix that
re 60+ FG I added that to see if RIFC wanted to do that also -- it was not in the rules last year,
but I put it there to see if anyone wanted it?? I thought someone kicked one last year so I stuck it in
to see if we would be adding it...

DIscussions re rule changes are ongoing and only in the beginning stages in the main RIFC thread.

Any thoughts on when we should start the draft?

I propose we start the draft on Saturday Aug. 15th without a clock. We probably won't need to turn on the clock with the experienced group of managers we have in this league. It shouldn't take more than two weeks to complete the draft, so we should be done by Aug. 29th. The NFL season starts on September 10th which gives us plenty of time for waivers/etc.

I prefer not starting the draft any earlier than that.

I think that around the 15th would be a good idea. Like I posted earlier, I am on the road the 21st and 22nd, so I would like to have the early rounds done personally rather than relying on DP's.

I just got home and will enter my pick now. My only other experience with the first draft pick was the season Shawn Alexander broke his foot, missed the 1st 4-6 games, and was ineffectual for the remainder of the season.I will also be travelling in August, 8/19-8/23, so starting the draft on 8/15 would be better for me.I think that the 1st week of the draft should be without a clock, then move to a 6 hour clock, and decrease the clock if necessary. We also need to decide on whether the clock should stop on weekends. For me that would be easier as I do not know what my internet access will be on 8/22-8/23.

My computer is in shop (needs power supply, and has to be ordered), and I am prevented from accessing league site, any email sites, and rotoguru sites at work (government computer). So far I can access Kafe draft site from work. Judy has my phone numbers, and I will try very hard not to slow things down. I am using my daughters tiny laptop for this, and she will kill me when she finds out. Obviously, I will take the last available draft slot so no hold up there. I am in Pacific time zone and stay up late.
When draft positions are known I want to know what time zones are next to me.
Good luck everyone.

davepyro and ref still need to sign in to kafenatid

it looks like ref and donkey hunter need to sign into MFL to "personalize" their teams

Any more thoughts on draft dates?

I think I am hearing to start on August 15th and to do the draft untimed for as long as we can. I
can turn it on earlier esp if the top coupla pickers know who they want already (barring injury).

My goal would be to be finished by Tuesday Aug 31.

Possible access conflicts so far are (Anyone else?):
Electro: F/S August 21/22
loki: W - Su August 19-23 (esp 22/23)

SO if we could get in 1.5 to 2 rounds per day, we'd be at round 8 or so when loki leaves...I am
always available by phone to help out... I'd put it into an email -- not here.

Anyone remember the the FA drop/add/waiver rules once the draft is completed? Is it FCFS or a
waiver wire order (reverse draft order, drop to bottom of list) for a few days -- how long? It was
special set up that was later changed once the season began in, so I do not have a print out of it.
I can set start/stop "windows" for this in MFL. AS I recall, there are not a lot of moves.

Rules change back. I took off the 6 pts for 60+ FG made. As per GURU, there are
no new rules for this year. I believe the rest of the scoring rules to be correct.

We should draft as late as possible, as the injury bug is biting
already this year. Big money has ruined all sports in general and
turned all athletes into a bunch of babies.

Plus Judy runs a pretty tight ship. No need to finish too early.

[85] That's a Guru thing or I don't know the command to do it as a Moderator.

[84] Agreed, we could start off the clock over the weekend and start clocking on Monday. I doubt if anyone will really have that difficult a choice when it comes to their first pick or two. It's the last 10-15 that take up al my time. lol

[75] waiver wire order (reverse draft order, drop to bottom of list) - with each WW round.

That's my understanding how it works until the WW pickups end before the playoffs.

My cell's posted on the MFL website and I have unlimited continental US minutes so I can take queues other than Ref's even rounds (lol)

My roster name is set. Apparently I was just on as a guest when I thought I was logged on.

Draft. We fly with our draft. I'd rather it be done after the 2nd week of preseason. Remember, the season starts a week later this year. Let's not be in a hurry to draft and make some bad picks due to injuries etc with our early picks then have 10 days or more after the draft before we can think about the season. Make the draft mean something--even at the end instead of having all that time to be the first to the computer to pick up FAs as we find out news.

I just checked the preseason schedule for the Eagles and their second PS game is Thursday August
22. I did not realize it was so late!

If we start the draft on the 15th, only one PS game will have been played. Is that enough time to
evaluate mid rounders?

So what about starting the draft on Monday the 24th? I can turn the draft on Sunday night the
23rd. Loki is first up coming off a vacation. Unless he is ready to pick earlier... in which case I
would turn it on sooner. I think we can try untimed for the first week.

I think we can finish it in under two weeks. The goal would be to be finished by the Friday of Labor
Day; freeze players for 2 days and then go to the waiver wire for pick ups until 1:00 weds when the
FCFS FA pick ups would start.

Chime in with your thoughts!

The system is currently set to exclude that feature for the various "leagues & standings" forums, since those threads often contain draft picks, or votes, or other items that make the hidden feature somewhat of a nuisance.

That's why it isn't active for this thread.

DRAFT START DATE PROPOSAL:

I turn it on at bedtime (~11 pm EDT) Sunday 23 with no clock. Loki has the first pick. If
he is ready earlier, I can start it then.

Beginning Monday, August 24, we agree to do at least 2 rounds per day (including the
weekends) -- that would have us finish on Sept 3, the Friday before Labor Day.

If we get behind by more than one round per day, the clock goes on at a 4 hour
limit
with a pause midnight EDT to 6 am EDT. No weekend pause. (Kafenatid will
email you about any change.)

Any thoughts? It is a tight schedule, but I do have confidence that we can manage it.

I am generally up 'til midnight so I can harass/"flog" the non EDT folks. I have contact
info for Dave if his home computer is still on the fritz on the 23rd.

It looks like there are no other vacation or internet access issues.

So now, we just wait, and wait, and wait... and do our research and hope the picks we
want do not get injured and are still there when it is our turn!

When I turn the draft on, I'll start a new draft communication thread so we can
keep each other up to speed on when we're picking, out to dinner, in a meeting for 2
hours, still thinking, what round to use the Q for, etc. -- plus moans and woes about
people "snatching" other's players!

Keeping everyone in the loop is essential for our finishing on time and keeping everyone
happy. It would be really cool to draft without using the clock! Something special to
brag about!

Last year we did the draft rationales (required!!) in groups of 5 (#1-5, #6-10, etc). I
think it made it easier, so that's what I recommend for this year. Then a couple of us
moderator types will put them into a nice orderly thread for you to read!

Judy -one question. Can u open up MFL and allow us to pick up our players as they're drafted? That way MFL can be used as a "player database" to pick from available players who haven't been drafted.

I don't know if everyone uses a separate system to track players and we'll already have our teams populated with players when the draft is over.

We picked up our players last year in MFL league, but we used their slow live draft system.

I'm pretty sure that special teams tackles have always counted for IDPs. Loki is right that we don't want offensive players to get credit for any tackles they may make, but this can be prevented by limiting the positions for which tackles get scored to DL, LB, and DB. In fact, this is already what our rules specify.

As for tackles not being an official stat, that means they are not validated by the NFL. As such, I doubt you will see them listed in an official NFL setting like the Hall of Fame. Another example of this is sacks prior to 1982. Some teams kept track of them before that, but they were not official and thus cannot be included in career sack totals, even if they were accurate. Please feel free to correct/clarify if I am wrong, as I'm mostly speaking off the top of my head.

I believe that I have set up the MFL site so that you can add your drafted players to your own lineup.
We will try it and see what happens. The goal is to keep the MFL player list up to date although
Kafenatid does that nicely, so it really is a double effort and not really needed until the very end.

As you look through and set up your own home page design, please feel free to comment on what I
did -- what should be deleted or added?
