1. We're up to 14. So, later today I will start sending out passwords and start the draft2 process (drafting of draft positions). (I entered half the scoring system in our fantrax league yesterday, had to do something else, thot I had saved it, and came back and found it had all vanished. Bummer.) I'll probably do the draft2 very soon.
2. Footwedge, I need an e-mail for you.
3. If someone happens along and is interested in playing, feel free to leave your name as a "back-up". It's been a while since some of our players first indicated interest, and it's possible that when I go to round up our 14 not all will respond.

Off we go with the selection of draft choices. No clock unless things really start to drag. art's in the hall, indicate your choice beside the numbers 1 to 14 and post it. Bearclaw should then copy and paste the whole set of draft positions, add his name in his preferred position, and post it. And so on.
This is a snake draft.
If you have the time and can find the e-mail of the guy picking after you, you might let him know he's up.

The general rules for the league may be found here: http://rotoguru1.com/cgi-bin/mb/foot/5101.shtml at post 1. We can adopt our own rules as to time of starting draft, clock, pause periods, etc.
I'll start a discussion of draft start periods tomorrow, but if there are any times of unavailabilty/weak access, you can mention them now. Most likely we'll start somewhere in the period of Aug. 17-22.

Good. I have an e-mail for Footwedge now. From here on it's all crumpets and jam.
If you've figured out your tactics and know your pick preferences and are waiting for the guyz behind you, you can e-mail me your preferences (e.g., "I like positions 4, 7, 3, 10, 9, in that order") and I will pick for you if I see that you're up before you do. I'm 13th so telling me your strategy won't matter :(

Here's when the other leagues are starting their drafts as far as they can figure out.
RIFC Thursday, Aug. 20 AAA#1 Monday, Aug. 24 AAA#2 Monday, Aug. 24
So I suggest for us...Monday, Aug. 24.
The draft will be opened on Kafenatid sometime over the weekend so that people can work on queues and pick if they want.
For the first round only I propose a long 8-hour clock. The purpose of the long first round clock is to make sure everyone is around and awake and knows the draft has started. I'm tempted to start with no clock but my experience has been that someone usually abuses that. My hope is that everyone has their first round queue pretty much done by draftstart so round 1 goes rather quickly.
The pre-season game is Jets vs Baltimore...which shouldn't cause anyone to want to wait to see its result before making their first round pick. On the morning of the day after the second round has started, the clock will be shortened.
Question: do people prefer a 4-hour clock or 6-hour clock? I have found that drafts work better with 4 hours. With 6 hours things lag and people start getting into the habit of not checking in regularly. But I'd like to hear what you think.

Toral...I vote for 4 hour clock. You right that the shorter "clock" keeps people more actively involved in the draft, hence less wasted time on managers failing to leave a queue or make arrangements to get their selection made timely.
I am out of town with limited computer access Sunday the 23rd through night of Tuesday the 25th.
I can leave a queue for 1st round (no problem with 3rd pick...problem will be 2nd and 3rd round picks (assuming this group is an "on the toes" bunch of drafters). I'm not to fond of leaving a 27 player queue.
If someone is willing to work over the phone with me on who has been drafted, OTC allows me to select a DP with "free form" selection rights to make selections based on our conversations in my absence.
Please e.mail me your phone info if available to help. Do not post it here.

I'm fine with 4 hours as long as the site's queue system is self explanatory. I agree with taxman that I don't like having a huge queue.

I will be flying cross country the morning of the 24th. I forget the details but likely will miss a portion of the first day of the clock. With a late pick, it likely wont be a problem, but if we get several picks in before the clock starts I could be holding things up. I will readdress the issue as we get closer, if needed.
If we go with 4 hours that is fine but there will be times when I will be away from the computer for that long and it is hard to leave a queue for two picks, which I would likely have to do drafting so close to the turn.

1. Everyone has signed up for Kafenatid and I thank you.
2. Re deadlines etc.:
atih6 1. By the "after 6 or 8" comment, do you mean you find it easier to meet queue deadlines during the day but harder in the evening? Many people find it just the opposite, especially people who find it hard to pick while at work. I wouldn't have a longer clock in the evenings for sure. Is 4 hours in the evening so short that you would like a longer clock?
dpr: I would hope you could solve your at-the-end problems with "complex queues"/queues with instructions. That is, you could instruct, on this thread, "For my next picks, don't pick 2 players at the same position." or "Pick the top running back from my queue, then the highest player at any position." You can even, for any round, restrict your DPs to managers who have indicated that they have seen your instructions. (As commissioner I can pick for anyone, including free form picks.) If someone makes an pick ignoring a queue instruction, I can stop the draft and go back and make the correct pick.
Unfortunately I cancelled my phone plan with lots of free U.S. hours, so I invite someone to volunteer to step up and be willing to phone Taxman to update him on pix made etc. If you get the info you won't need to stick around till Taxman is up; you can e-mail the pick to me and probably other DPs to be made when the time comes.
Re the draft pause -- my inclination is to have the clock run from 8 A.M to midnite ET. We could change this an hour either way.
If you have a chance indicate your time zone. If there are lots of players with MT, PT or foreign time zones, we can look ar different hours.
To sum up, if you want a different clock or draft pause or time start, now is the time to speak up. Those who have already said something should reiterate their concerns if necessary.

Here is a cut-and-paste from the Kafenatid draft order page with proper names removed. If anything seems wrong, let me know as soon as possible. The draft order is theoretically unchangeable, but if there is a mistake Fred may be willing to correct it, provided that one of us chosen at random will first be executed.

Bearclaw 76 -- Go to Kafenatid.Net/On The Clock. Scroll down to Your Current Drafts. You will see the league name RIFC AA #1 which is our draft. I can see it there now as commissioner; I'm not sure if you can see it now with "Not Started" beside it or if you won't see it until the draft is started. (I will hit "Draft Start" sometime rhis weekend, with no clock until Monday morning. You can set your queues, and pick if you want, though there is no need to pick until Monday.)

The draft has been turned on at Kafenatid. You may pick now, but need not feel obliged to do so until Monday.
Whether you pick or not, I urge those early in the first round to set up queues, and those later to experiment with setting them up if unfamiliar with Kafenatid. Remember that your queues may be set up as AVAILABLE or UNAVAILABLE. If your queue is unavailable, no one may pick from it (or even see it when your turn comes up.)
I will set up a new thread for draft discussion later, setting up the procedures and rules of etiquette to be followed during the draft. For the moment I would only mention that from here on in, please do not mention any undrafted players.

Not sure what you did russelldl but my screen shows your queue as empty (no players) and unavailable. (FYI the commissioner can see whether there are any players in a queue, and whether it is available, but not who the players are or how many there are.)

sorry toral. I left this message in the wrong thread. It was meant for different league.

I've finished the schedule. Fantrax requires manual addition of the doubleheader games. I invite you to check to see you have 26 games, 2 against each team.
