We're currently discussing where we'd host the draft but it appears that Guru would prefer us to use MFL for the draft as well.

Tree, last year on fantrax was a nightmare. I would never want to repeat that again. I'd almost prefer 2 yahoo leagues (so we have the double headers) to what we had to experience. I hope anyone who was in that AAA league last year and is hesitant on rejoining because of that isn't going to say no. We are using MFL which is a vastly superior site.

Art you do qualify. I was wrong adding DaBomb to the list of those who are in. He's one of the 4 first alternates and is in if one of the following 4 do not show up.

It looks like there is an opening in AAA#2 league. Wiggs will be on vacation during the draft and needs to withdraw... I sent an email to him to make sure this is what he wants.

Kyle/jseth - since Footwedge is still listed in both AAA leagues, please remove him from this one and insert The Beezer in his place.

Aye Aye! I've been in jury duty all week so I'm going to get on the selecting of the draft order. Guru has sent me a link and how to randomize the order we have, then we'll select which order we'll draft in from that order. I guess we're also using a Bonsai or Third Round Reversal draft, which I need to read up on, and in my next post I'll post the order we'll select the draft order and more on the Bonsai draft

As with the RIFC and the other AAA league we are using the Banzai format for the draft this year.
This is essentially the same as a regular snake draft except that the third round is reversed. We will be manually reversing the order of the third round.
For example, if you have the first pick in a traditional snake, your first four picks are 1, 28, 29, and 56. In a Banzai style, your first four picks are 1, 28, 42, and 56. Only the third pick is changed, delayed from #29 to #42. Every other pick in the entire draft is the same for both methods.
We will also use the MFL random draft order generator to select the order in which we pick our draft picking slot -- it is NOT the draft order. We will be running that shortly so people can start picking where they draft

Draft order time. Using Guru's fancy randomizer I sent myself and JSeth an e-mail with 2 random sets of numbers. Just to clarify, if you pick first in Rd 1 you will get the last pick in Rd 2,3, and 4.
It's been explained many different ways, but Kyle's latest description is not quite right.

Correct -
If you have the first pick in the first round, you have the last pick in the 2nd 3rd and 4th - picks 1, 28, 42, and 56
Spot 14 will pick last in round 1, and then pick first in rounds 2 and 3 and 4.
From that point the one with the first pick in the first round will be first in the odd number rounds and last in the even number rounds.

We are done- I thank Guru for adopting the 3RR draft as it leaves me with just a 2% deficit rather than my normal 6-8% starting hole as I sure seem to be getting the short end of every draft stick in my rotoguru drafts in virtually all sports the last couple of years. I feel more confident in my team's prospects already.

To clarify, we're doing the "Banzai"-style draft style.
- 3RR reverses the first 2 rounds only (1-14, 14-1, 14-1, 1-14, 14-1, etc.) - Banzai reverses round 3 only (1-14, 14-1, 14-1, 14-1, 1-14, 14-1, etc.)

Yes - again we are only reversing the 3rd round -
We will go timed on the draft beginning on the 23rd - please try to set queues - use friends - call neighbors - etc to keep things moving...
Also everyone will need to post rationales for their picks - 2 rounds behind - so prepare accordingly and remember not to mention any player that has not been picked

Actually Beezer - what you are referring to is properly called 3RS where the second and third rounds have the same order as do the first and fourth rounds. 3RS refers to 3 round serpentine. 3RR properly refers to 3rd round reversal or bonzai draft as properly described by jseth above. . Unfortunately per Footballguys.com two national contests- NFFC and Rotobowl are actually using 3rd round serpentine drafts but eroneously calling them 3RR hence the confusion.

really? is that right? so, for having an early round pick in the first round, you pick late for the next THREE rounds.
i wish i had understood that better, because i certainly would not have chosen the 4th spot to draft in. ugh.

Well with a regular serpentine you would've picked late in 2 of those rounds. The only difference in your picks is instead of 3.4 you get 3.11.

Unlisted players During the draft, any player may be drafted, regardless of whether or not the player is listed at the hosting game site. Once the draft is completed, unlisted players may not be added to any roster. This applies for any post-draft waiver processing as well.
In the event that a drafted player is not listed after the draft has completed, a placeholder player will be assigned to the drafting team, to be replaced by the drafted player as soon as he is available.
Priority Claiming All free agents (any players not on a current roster) are subject to a weekly claiming process at noon on Wednesday. Following each of the first 6 weeks of the season, the priorities will reset weekly based on the reverse of W/L percentage. After that, priorities will not be reset during the regular season. Throughout the season, when a player is claimed, the claiming team moves to the end of the claiming priority list. Following the final regular season game, priorities will be reset based on playoff seed, with the top seed getting the top priority. Thereafter, throughout the playoffs, priorities will again adjust only when a claim is awarded.
Starting at 3:00pm on Wednesday, all free agents may be picked up by any team "first come, first served" without any change in priority status. Players who were just dropped in conjunction with a waiver claim will be treated the same as other free agents (i.e., not subject to s separate waiver period).
(Immediately following the draft, undrafted players will be subject to a priority claiming process, with priorities equal to the reverse of the first round draft order.)
Starting five minutes prior to the scheduled start of each NFL game, no player in that game may be dropped, regardless of whether the player is an active or bench player.
Schedule 13 week round robin Doubleheaders all weeks 1-13 (play each team twice) Single elimination playoffs, weeks 14-16
Trades and trade deadline During the draft, trades may include draft picks. Trades will normally be approved immediately by the Commissioner, assuming they are reasonably balanced. If league managers believe an announced trade is unbalanced, they should protest the trade ASAP.
After the draft, trades will be subject to a review period. For the first 24 hours following a trade, managers may protest a trade by posting a message at the RotoGuru forum, or by sending an email to the Commissioner. If at least 3 managers protest a trade within 24 hours of its announcement, then all managers will be polled within the next 24 hours. If seven or more managers vote to veto a trade, then it will not be approved. If a proposed trade is announced less than 24 hours before the earliest freeze for any player involved, then the entire trade will not be processed until the following week.
If a trade does not receive at least 3 protests, then it will be effective 24 hours after it is announced. If a trade receives at least 3 protests but the protests are not upheld in a full league vote, then the trade will be processed 48 hours after it is announced.
The trade deadline is 11:30pm EST on November 11.
Stat corrections These will be automatically applied. This typically happens on Thursday morning. In the playoffs, this can lead to an issue if a team is suddenly “back in the game”, but that team was unable to make roster moves the prior day. If a stat correction changes a playoff matchup at the last minute, then any impacted team will be given the opportunity to make a last minute roster move, if needed. The Commissioner will attempt to ensure that this provision is enabled as fairly as possible under the circumstances.
During the playoffs, once the first game of the week has started, no stat corrections will be allowed thereafter.
Playoffs 8 teams Top 6 W/L records are seeded 1-6 Top remaining total points are seeded 7-8 Teams with equivalent W/L records are seeded based on head- to-head first (regardless of the number of teams), then total points. Bracket is fixed (no reseeding after each round)
Players at the primary skill positions (QB, RB, WR) and team defenses may not be added for any reason during the playoffs. Free agents at these positions will be locked out after the final regular season game. You may drop a player at one of these positions, but once dropped, that player cannot be added later.
Players at the other positions (TE, PK, IDP) may be added or dropped according to normal regular season guidelines, subject to playoff claiming priorities, if applicable.
If a playoff game ends in a tie score, the team with the better seed shall advance.
Team which are not still active in the Championship playoffs may not make any transactions - adds or drops - even if they are still competing in the Consolation bracket.

Here is a draft slot analysis that one of my guys (TD) did for AAA#2. Of course, I have slot #9...
In actuality it is just too much math for me. Drafting is only one part of the equation, but if you draft crappy, you will have a head start on being crappy -- but it is so much easier to draft in football than baseball -- I think.
I find the new draft order intriguing. My gut feel is the draft slot 14 is the best because you have the 1st pick in rounds 2-4, but I am probably wrong. After making my selection, I found this article and totaled up the values for a 14 team draft. http://subscribers.footballguys.com/2007/07pasquino_trr12.php
Using values from chart, slot 1 was best, and slot 9 was the worst.

Another reminder about the draft... (Am I the only one alive here? Let's see some trash talk about how your draft strategy is better than mine...)
MFL automatically picks from your queue once you have it set up, but it's only good for one round at a time. So you need to set up a queue for each round, but the good thing is we don't need to alert each other that a pick is good for rounds 14 but not 15. The other good thing is it is automatic, so when it comes to your pick it will be done instantaneously instead of waiting for the person before or after you to make your pick. This will allow for 5-6 picks to be made right away if there are that many queues in a row. But be forewarned, we will not go back for a messed up pick because it's automatic and will only be your error. So queue wisely, and please queue!

Kyle - the automatic pick is to me a very bad feature- There is no way I can set an automatic pick 11 picks from mine especially in the early rounds- Thanks for the warning- I shall be removing my queue ASAP. On the good side I am quite diligent in making my picks in a timely manner w/o a queue.

I wouldn't suggest having an 11 player queue unless you are for sure about who you want at the spot. I have my second round pick lined up, but that's probably going to disappear after about 10 picks are made.
The Automatic pick is good/bad. I mean Kafenatid was basically an automatic pick if you set up the 2 people around you as your DPs, which I did. I actually would go with the 2 people before me and the 2 people after me, along with the commish so I'd have half the league picking from my queue. Honestly I just want to test to see how this works, and if I have the unfortunate chance of staying in AAA next year I may (depending on schedule) commish and host a Kafenatid drafted league, just because I love that format.

I was very happy with Kafenatid drafting too. I just learned that the current queue only applies to the predraft list not to the player preference list under "drafting" so at least we can still have a place to queue our personnal lists for drafting while avoiding the automatic draft function.
