Sign up here if you would like to sign up for Kyle and Jseth333's league. We'll be co-commishing and running it on MFL.com

We're currently discussing where we'd host the draft but it appears that Guru would prefer us to use MFL for the draft as well.

If you could post your e-mails it'll make it easier on us to invite you to the league :)

sorry. i've been woefully lax on reading ANY of these RIFC threads, mostly because my experience last year with whatever site we used soured my taste incredibly.

but i just got an email from Guru that said we'd be using MFL, which i LOVE.

so, count me in.

Tree, last year on fantrax was a nightmare. I would never want to repeat that again. I'd almost prefer 2 yahoo leagues (so we have the double headers) to what we had to experience. I hope anyone who was in that AAA league last year and is hesitant on rejoining because of that isn't going to say no. We are using MFL which is a vastly superior site.

Art you do qualify. I was wrong adding DaBomb to the list of those who are in. He's one of the 4 first alternates and is in if one of the following 4 do not show up.

We are still waiting on:
culdeus
Footwedge
s_R
Yokel

Alternates are:
1. DaBomb
2. Whoever shows up first between Pancho Villa and Crazy 88s

culdeus emailed me to say he is not returning this year. So Da Bomb is in.

Also, Crazy 88s (Beezer) responded positively, so he is now tops on the waiting list.

It looks like there is an opening in AAA#2 league. Wiggs will be on vacation during the draft and
needs to withdraw... I sent an email to him to make sure this is what he wants.

SO it looks like folks will all get into AAA somewhere! If you want wiggs spot, just sign up in the

Beezer,
Footwedge is currently in both AAA leagues. Until he decides which league he prefers, it looks like things are up in the air, but there should be an opening. My interest has waned, so you should be next in line, likely in this league.

Kyle/jseth - since Footwedge is still listed in both AAA leagues, please remove him from this one and insert The Beezer in his place.

With that, I believe both AAA leagues are now full - without redundancy.

Aye Aye! I've been in jury duty all week so I'm going to get on the selecting of the draft order. Guru has sent me a link and how to randomize the order we have, then we'll select which order we'll draft in from that order. I guess we're also using a Bonsai or Third Round Reversal draft, which I need to read up on, and in my next post I'll post the order we'll select the draft order and more on the Bonsai draft

As with the RIFC and the other AAA league we are using the
Banzai format for the draft this year.

This is essentially the same as a regular snake draft except that
the third round is reversed. We will be manually reversing the
order of the third round.

For example, if you have the first pick in a traditional snake,
your first four picks are 1, 28, 29, and 56. In a Banzai style, your
first four picks are 1, 28, 42, and 56. Only the third pick is
changed, delayed from #29 to #42. Every other pick in the entire
draft is the same for both methods.

We will also use the MFL random draft order generator to
select the order in which we pick our draft picking slot -- it is
NOT the draft order. We will be running that shortly so people
can start picking where they draft

Draft order time. Using Guru's fancy randomizer I sent myself and JSeth an e-mail with 2 random sets of numbers. I took our names and alphabetized them then I reordered them according to the numbers that were sent to me and JSeth. Here's the first list:
1. Art's in the Hall
2. Bags
3. BeastieMikeD
4. The Beezer
5. DaBomb
6. Goatlocker
7. Jaydog
8. JSeth333
9. Kyle
10. s_R
11. Slackjawed Yokel
12. Swingandamiss
13. Tree
14. Valkyrie

The first set of numbers were
13, 11, 6, 5, 9, 12, 2, 3, 10, 4, 8, 1, 7, 14

Setting the first order at:
1. Tree
2. Slackjawed Yokel
3. Goatlocker
4. DaBomb
5. Kyle
6. Swingandamiss
7. Bags
8. BeastieMikeD
9. s_R
10. The Beezer
11. JSeth333
12. Art's in the Hall
13. Jaydog
14. Valkyrie

The second set of numbers were:
13, 10, 4, 12, 8, 1, 9, 6, 5, 3, 11, 7, 14, 2

Setting the final order at:
1. Jaydog
2. The Beezer
3. DaBomb
4. Art's in the Hall
5. BeastieMikeD
6. Tree
7. s_R
8. Swingandamiss
9. Kyle
10. Goatlocker
11. JSeth333
12. Bags
13. Valkyrie
14. Slackjawed Yokel

Now we choose the order. Remember the 3rd round reverses the draft, so if you had the first pick in the first round, you have the last pick in both the 2nd and 3rd and the first again in the 4th. Please post your position in the line up with your name bolded. To bold type text replacing [ with <

Jaydog, you are up to choose your spot.

Just to clarify, if you pick first in Rd 1 you will get the last pick in Rd 2,3, and 4.

It's been explained many different ways, but Kyle's latest description is not quite right.
42jseth333
      Dude

Correct -

If you have the first pick in the first round, you have the last
pick in the 2nd 3rd and 4th - picks 1, 28, 42, and 56

Spot 14 will pick last in round 1, and then pick first in rounds 2
and 3 and 4.

From that point the one with the first pick in the first round will
be first in the odd number rounds and last in the even number
rounds.

We are done- I thank Guru for adopting the 3RR draft as it leaves me with just a 2% deficit rather than my normal 6-8% starting hole as I sure seem to be getting the short end of every draft stick in my rotoguru drafts in virtually all sports the last couple of years. I feel more confident in my team's prospects already.

      ID: 191202817
      Wed, Aug 11, 2010, 18:38
To clarify, we're doing the "Banzai"-style draft style.

- 3RR reverses the first 2 rounds only (1-14, 14-1, 14-1, 1-14, 14-1, etc.)
- Banzai reverses round 3 only (1-14, 14-1, 14-1, 14-1, 1-14, 14-1, etc.)

61jseth333
      Dude
      ID: 24100310

Yes - again we are only reversing the 3rd round -

We will go timed on the draft beginning on the 23rd - please try
to set queues - use friends - call neighbors - etc to keep things
moving...

Also everyone will need to post rationales for their picks - 2

Actually Beezer - what you are referring to is properly called 3RS where the second and third rounds have the same order as do the first and fourth rounds. 3RS refers to 3 round serpentine.
3RR properly refers to 3rd round reversal or bonzai draft as properly described by jseth above. .
Unfortunately per Footballguys.com two national contests- NFFC and Rotobowl are actually using 3rd round serpentine drafts but eroneously calling them 3RR hence the confusion.

wait, i'm confused.

so i have the following picks in the first 5 rounds?

1.4
2.11
3.11
4.11
5.4

really? is that right? so, for having an early round pick in the first round, you pick late for the next THREE rounds.

i wish i had understood that better, because i certainly would not have chosen the 4th spot to draft in. ugh.

Well with a regular serpentine you would've picked late in 2 of those rounds. The only difference in your picks is instead of 3.4 you get 3.11.

Unlisted players
During the draft, any player may be drafted, regardless of
whether or not the player is listed at the hosting game site.
Once the draft is completed, unlisted players may not be added
to any roster. This applies for any post-draft waiver processing
as well.

In the event that a drafted player is not listed after the draft has
completed, a placeholder player will be assigned to the drafting
team, to be replaced by the drafted player as soon as he is
available.

Priority Claiming
All free agents (any players not on a current roster) are subject
to a weekly claiming process at noon on Wednesday. Following
each of the first 6 weeks of the season, the priorities will reset
weekly based on the reverse of W/L percentage. After that,
priorities will not be reset during the regular season.
Throughout the season, when a player is claimed, the claiming
team moves to the end of the claiming priority list. Following the
final regular season game, priorities will be reset based on
playoff seed, with the top seed getting the top priority.
Thereafter, throughout the playoffs, priorities will again adjust
only when a claim is awarded.

Starting at 3:00pm on Wednesday, all free agents may be picked
up by any team "first come, first served" without any change in
priority status. Players who were just dropped in conjunction
with a waiver claim will be treated the same as other free agents
(i.e., not subject to s separate waiver period).

(Immediately following the draft, undrafted players will be
subject to a priority claiming process, with priorities equal to the
reverse of the first round draft order.)

Starting five minutes prior to the scheduled start of each NFL
game, no player in that game may be dropped, regardless of
whether the player is an active or bench player.

Schedule
13 week round robin
Doubleheaders all weeks 1-13 (play each team twice)
Single elimination playoffs, weeks 14-16

Trades and trade deadline
During the draft, trades may include draft picks. Trades will
normally be approved immediately by the Commissioner,
assuming they are reasonably balanced. If league managers
believe an announced trade is unbalanced, they should protest
the trade ASAP.

After the draft, trades will be subject to a review period. For the
first 24 hours following a trade, managers may protest a trade
by posting a message at the RotoGuru forum, or by sending an
email to the Commissioner. If at least 3 managers protest a
trade within 24 hours of its announcement, then all managers
will be polled within the next 24 hours. If seven or more
managers vote to veto a trade, then it will not be approved. If a
proposed trade is announced less than 24 hours before the
earliest freeze for any player involved, then the entire trade will
not be processed until the following week.

If a trade does not receive at least 3 protests, then it will be
effective 24 hours after it is announced. If a trade receives at
least 3 protests but the protests are not upheld in a full league
vote, then the trade will be processed 48 hours after it is
announced.

The trade deadline is 11:30pm EST on November 11.

Stat corrections
These will be automatically applied. This typically happens on
Thursday morning. In the playoffs, this can lead to an issue if a
team is suddenly “back in the game”, but that team was unable
to make roster moves the prior day. If a stat correction changes
a playoff matchup at the last minute, then any impacted team
will be given the opportunity to make a last minute roster move,
if needed. The Commissioner will attempt to ensure that this
provision is enabled as fairly as possible under the
circumstances.

During the playoffs, once the first game of the week has started,
no stat corrections will be allowed thereafter.

Playoffs
8 teams
Top 6 W/L records are seeded 1-6
Top remaining total points are seeded 7-8
Teams with equivalent W/L records are seeded based on head-
to-head first (regardless of the number of teams), then total
points.
Bracket is fixed (no reseeding after each round)

Players at the primary skill positions (QB, RB, WR) and team
defenses may not be added for any reason during the playoffs.
Free agents at these positions will be locked out after the final
regular season game. You may drop a player at one of these
positions, but once dropped, that player cannot be added later.

Players at the other positions (TE, PK, IDP) may be added or
dropped according to normal regular season guidelines, subject
to playoff claiming priorities, if applicable.

If a playoff game ends in a tie score, the team with the better
seed shall advance.

Team which are not still active in the Championship playoffs
may not make any transactions - adds or drops - even if they
are still competing in the Consolation bracket.

Here is a draft slot analysis that one of my guys (TD) did for AAA#2. Of course, I have slot #9...

In actuality it is just too much math for me. Drafting is only one part of the equation, but if you draft
crappy, you will have a head start on being crappy -- but it is so much easier to draft in football than
baseball -- I think.

I find the new draft order intriguing. My gut feel is the draft slot 14 is the best because you have
the 1st pick in rounds 2-4, but I am probably wrong. After making my selection, I found this article
and totaled up the values for a 14 team draft.
http://subscribers.footballguys.com/2007/07pasquino_trr12.php

Using values from chart, slot 1 was best, and slot 9 was the worst.

Draft Slot - value total

1 - 5448
2 - 5413
3 - 5380
14 - 5373
4 - 5357
13 - 5348
5 - 5334
12 - 5328
6 - 5321
11 - 5316
7 - 5308
10 - 5304
8 - 5303
9 - 5302

Another reminder about the draft... (Am I the only one alive here? Let's see some trash talk about how your draft strategy is better than mine...)

MFL automatically picks from your queue once you have it set up, but it's only good for one round at a time. So you need to set up a queue for each round, but the good thing is we don't need to alert each other that a pick is good for rounds 14 but not 15. The other good thing is it is automatic, so when it comes to your pick it will be done instantaneously instead of waiting for the person before or after you to make your pick. This will allow for 5-6 picks to be made right away if there are that many queues in a row. But be forewarned, we will not go back for a messed up pick because it's automatic and will only be your error. So queue wisely, and please queue!

Kyle - the automatic pick is to me a very bad feature- There is no way I can set an automatic pick 11 picks from mine especially in the early rounds- Thanks for the warning- I shall be removing my queue ASAP. On the good side I am quite diligent in making my picks in a timely manner w/o a queue.

I wouldn't suggest having an 11 player queue unless you are for sure about who you want at the spot. I have my second round pick lined up, but that's probably going to disappear after about 10 picks are made.

The Automatic pick is good/bad. I mean Kafenatid was basically an automatic pick if you set up the 2 people around you as your DPs, which I did. I actually would go with the 2 people before me and the 2 people after me, along with the commish so I'd have half the league picking from my queue. Honestly I just want to test to see how this works, and if I have the unfortunate chance of staying in AAA next year I may (depending on schedule) commish and host a Kafenatid drafted league, just because I love that format.

I was very happy with Kafenatid drafting too.
I just learned that the current queue only applies to the predraft list not to the player preference list under "drafting" so at least we can still have a place to queue our personnal lists for drafting while avoiding the automatic draft function.
