Don't we have to use Guru's AAA waiting list:
I suggest that we form a "first-come, first-served" waiting list for any remaining AAA openings. The following teams will have a priority ranking on this waiting list:
Pancho Villa, Crazy 88s, Da Bomb, Slowhand. These four teams will get the first four open AAA spots, first come, first served. If there are remaining openings for a AAA league, those may be filled by any team which played in any previous year’s QL or the RIFC, first come, first served.

Yup, but PD is not an AAA QL for this year, so he goes at the bottom of the AAA wait lists. I've emailed
him about the non QL issue. He's OK with it. Slow was the first priority WL'er to ask for this league, which
is the reason for post #8, but we might fill up first.

We are in great shape -- just one more manager needed -- I'll bet we get him tonight!

and we are full up.

Also waiting for confirmation from holt and russeldl.

Since we have not yet decided how the draft order will be set (traditional snake, or something else), it is premature to work on order selection yet.

If you want to see a fun discussion, check out the big boys thread as they discuss what type of draft
sequence to use. They are looking at snake, third round reversal (3RR) and a crazy one called Bonsaiiiiii.

So far with 9 votes in, Bonsaiii leads...

Generally, we follow what the big boys do...

It will impact what draft picking slot you choose so I recommend you look it over AND if you can figure
anything out, let us know here!

Looks like the draft will begin officially on August 23, but we usually open it up over the
weekend before so if your guy makes it through his final preseason game safely, you could go
ahead and draft him.

If we do not start until the 23rd i will have to withdraw myself from this league. I will be away for 10 days at the end of august, I have someone to help me draft, but I didnt think they would have to do the whole draft. I always thought we started earlier then the 23rd.

Thanks

We are using the Banzai format for the draft this year: From GURU:

In the RIFC, we have decided to use a "Banzai" format for the draft. This is essentially the same
as a regular snake draft except that the third round is reversed. I believe this can be set up in MFL as
a snake draft, after which you can manually reverse the order of the third round.

I am sending out an email asking for a volunteer to do the math stuff for the draft order picking
order. Then GURU has a program to generate the random numbers.

FYI- I also found this example from Guru helpful:

So, for example, if you have the first pick in a traditional snake, your first four picks are 1, 28, 29, and 56. In a Banzai style, your first four picks are 1, 28, 42, and 56. Only the third pick is changed, delayed from #29 to #42. Every other pick in the entire draft is the same for both methods.

Please check out the discussion on the Big Boys thread for some good information about the Bonsai draft. We are
going to follow them in all stats, drafts, etc aspects. So, we will also use the MFL random draft order generator to
select the order in which we pick our draft picking slot -- it is NOT the draft order.

I just got home from a conference and might get to it tonight, but definitely this weekend. You will get an email with
the information.

From the MFL email:

Your league commissioner has generated the draft order for your league - you can view the entire order on your
Reports > League > Draft page.

7. mjd
8. coldwater coyotes
9. NY Titans
10. GhostWood
11. TD Dragons

Remember the list in #53 is the order to PICK your draft slot, NOT the actual draft order. I will set
that up once this process is completed.

Ok then, Footwedge, the last into the league, is the first to pick his draft slot:

Copy paste the list into the next message. Put your name into the draft slot you want,
and if you can, email the next person in line from #53 above. Thanks.

For those of you who might have mfl access issues at work,
Guru has created a work around for viewing only.

It also allows us to see who in the other RIFC leagues chose
whom when.

Go to post #179 in the big boys thread. It's really cool -- no
more need to try to keep my own spreadsheets up to date!

No --

the first WW is the reverse of #75 which is the draft order --
what you put in #76 was the draft slot picking order

I believe that the first ww order is the inverse order of the first
round of the draft, which is as Judy says is #75 barring any trades
involving 1st round picks.

Currently, the Number 1 Draft position reflects Footwedge and his picks are: 1.01, 2.06, 3.05, 4.14, 5.02, 6.12, 7.07 and other non-sense.

If I understand the banzai/3rd round reversal, the Number 1 Draft position (which should be Titans) receives picks: 1.01, 2.14, 3.14, 4.14, 5.01, 6.14, 7.01 and continues therafter as a serpentine draft.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Hi Taxman,

I just fixed it this am. Yesterday was a wash as I had to meet my Dad at the hospital for a gash in his
head when he fell at 5 am. He's home and as "fine" as a 95 year old can be...

To all the others -- check out the draft order. You will see your pick # round by round and also overall.
Also, I can see that dpr has already set a Q for his first round pick. I can't see what it is, but I can see that
he set it.

Please read the draft Q rules carefully, so you do not end up with a player you do not want. I am not yet sure
what commish controls I have, but I am sure I can work with you via email messages (not texting) and make
picks for you - but this new Q system should avoid that.

This is how I understand it -- please correct me if I am wrong.

The most important item is that if it is your turn and there is a player in your Q, he will automatically be
picked for you -- I don't see where you can open/close your Q like in Kafenatid. You can also make a
separate list for each round of the draft -- that is cool, since you can count how far away you are and
leave a list that long.

I see that a problem could develop where if you don't know who you got in say R#12, you aren't sure that
your R#13 list would still work for you. But I think you can solve that by not leaving a Q for R#13 and
planning to pick manually?

MORE DRAFT STUFF

As of now I plan to open the draft when I go to bed on Thursday night August 19, so it will be ready for the
official start on Friday August 20th.

For now we will use an untimed draft with no time limit on weekends. If the draft really slows down, we will
go to a (X -- 4 -5 - 6 we will vote on that) hour clock 7 days a week, but we have gone untimed the last 2
seasons so I expect that to continue. (I am also assuming that the draft site will have a clock somewhere so
we can see how long the picks are taking...)

Special note With the draft beginning on a Friday, we might not get too far that day. If you are
NOT GOING TO PICK OVER THE WEEKEND, please post same in the thread so we don't keep running to our
computers to see if you picked yet!

Once I open the predraft thread next week --please use that to post any issues and expected delays that
you might have. You can also email me. I should be able to check my computer every 4 - 5 hours as field
hockey reffing begins for me that week.

Final note, if we need to go timed, do you prefer a 4, 5, or 6 hour clock? It would be 7 days a week,
midnight EDT to 6 am EDT. VOTE HERE.

I may be a little slow to pick the first weekend. I don't plan on setting up a queue until it is close to my pick for the first few rounds. After the first few rounds, I have no problem setting up a long queue.

I am going to a wedding on Friday evening August 20th, and on the beach most of the weekend. I will check in occasionally.

I don't recall the last time a clock was needed for one of Judy's
drafts and since this league has many of the usual suspects, I'd
venture to guess that it probably won't be needed again.

I'm interested in seeing how this draft pans out on MFL. I can
already tell you that I don't like the fact that we don't have the
power to turn our queues on or off. I like to turn mine off and
stash players names in there as a watch list. Turn it on when
needed.

And if there were any problems with OTC, Fred was readily
available to fix them almost immediately. We'll see how quick
MFL is to respond to any issues that may pop up.

I guess I'm not one to fix something that's not broken, but I'll
maintain a open mind while we try this out.

I too depend on the power to turn queues on and off. I'll stick 15 players in a queue after my pick, turn it off, and sit down seriously and sort out the 3 or 4 left when it gets close to my pick, before turning it back on. Without that ability I wouldn't be queueing very far ahead.

TD: Thanks for the heads up .

So did you guys on your owner pages look to see if there was an on/off "button"? Can you opt out
of a "pick for me automatically"?

Toral and mjd -- that's what I do to... I am constantly changing my Q as the draft progresses, so I
like the slowness (relative) of it.

I think if we stay untimed, we are not stuck with that automatic thingie. One of the
managers for GURU is an MFL veteran and I posed the question -- and we'll get the answer for you.

I've posted on MFL about improving their software to allow you to set conditional queues based on your last pick, so you can easily set queues for 2+ rounds and not worry about grabbing the same position. This is really the only thing they're missing.

As far as turning queues on and off, while I don't think it makes any difference since a queue turned off doesn't let a pick happen regardless...there is a way to mimic this mostly. Go to My Draft List and move the players over you'd like to look at and save it. Once you do that, you can go to the draft page and use that list to select players to stick in your queue rather than from the ADP or Alpha list. You can also auto draft straight from your My Draft List, but I don't think you can actually turn that on unless the live draft room is enabled.

It doesn't matter whether you have a clock or not, the system uses a queue as soon as it's your turn to pick. If everyone set a queue long enough for every single pick in the draft, as soon as it started the draft would be completed within seconds. If you don't want your pick made as soon as it comes up, don't leave a queue. You can use the My Draft List as I stated in the post before. If you set the draft to something like 'live + slow' or whatever the option is, the live draft room is enabled and I know you can check a box to draft from your My Draft List. You could always consider doing this as well.

I suggest starting up the draft early and letting people enter queues/picks to test things out if you want. You can always reset it for the real thing.

I am not liking what Bonka is saying. I like the slow draft which takes 10-12 days to
complete. We always finish in plenty of time and we go untimed.

This sounds like the MFL goal is to get the draft completed as fast as possible and that is
not our philosophy.

I sent a few questions into MFL as well.

I did just check MFL and you'd have to set the draft type to a live draft for the live draft room option. In the live draft room, there should an 'I'm Away' box to check. If that's checked, the system pulls from the My Draft List until it runs out and then the ADP list as far as I know. I've never actually used it before. I wouldn't really suggest marking yourself as away and then leaving for an entire day or two unless your My Draft List is set long enough or you don't mind your picks made off ADP. I'd stick with setting queues for each round.

Judy, I don't see what the problem is. The draft is still going to run for a while since not everyone sets a queue. If there's no queue to pull from, the draft sits on that pick until that person enters one. But there's no reason to sit around waiting for a designated picker to pick from your queue while you're away rather than the system automatically do it for you.

While I'm here I want to mention, like I did in the main thread, that if you are using a Yahoo email address for MFL you should get a secondary one from some place like gmail and use that instead. Lately Yahoo has been delaying emails from MFL for hours or days and you will not receive anything in a timely manner. This is Yahoo's fault, not MFLs.

As a side note, you can just set up a secondary address and have it forward to your Yahoo account so you can continue to just check the one account. This is what I do.

Yea I always used used my queue as a watchlist of sorts just giving a list of 10 guys I hoped would be there at my next pick and then thinking carefully when there are only 3 left and I am 2 picks away or however it goes. My plan after looking it over briefly is to set the last round as my normal queue and then when i would turn it on I will update it to the current round.

Queuing seemed really difficult as as far as I could tell you couldn't start typing a players name and instead have to scroll thru one of the lists. Also no ability to shift click.

dpr - use the alphabetical list option, click on any name, and then start typing. It should immediately skip to the first occurrence of that name. (That's a browser function, not something built into the software.)

You can also use the My Draft List and select multiple players at a time or import an external list by copy and pasting under the import link. Then when you're on the page to set your queue, use the My Draft List and you'll have the guys you've been looking at to select from.

I'm OK with giving it a go. Remember, several of us will advance
next season and if MFL is used again for the draft, it'd probably
be best not to be behind the learning curve by using a different
draft site this year.

And by setting a queue for each individual round, this will really
eliminate any confusion/angst for those picking at or near the
turns.

I guess my main concern is the MFL response time to any
potential glitches while the draft is in progress.

Bonka I am confused #95 and 96 seem to me to contradict each other.

In #95, it suggests that if you check "I'm away" then MFL will pull from your lists -- I do not want
that. What's the point of saying I am away if it picks for you? I like to make lists -- it's fun to see my
choices get picked off before I get a chance. Here if I make a list, MFL might pick someone from that
list and I do not want that option. I want to make the pick all by myself manually or if I open my Q,
my dp or the commish (me and I am around a lot during the draft) can do it. I do not want the
automatic picking unless I specifically tell the system to do that. I do not see that option to close my Q (as
opposed to leaving it empty).

#96 -- I don't want the system to pick automatically for me as I am concerned that it will do more
than the single round I want because it will go too fast. Think about the folks with 2 in a row -- in
Kafenatid, they had time to rethink their choices. Here, although you can set two separate lists for
each round, it will pick both of them in a heartbeat and you might have wanted the option to think
first -- especially since there is such a long time until your next pick and maybe you left for work with an
RB and WR list and find out that there has been a run on QB's and if you don't have the option to rethink,
you'll have to wait 29 places to get one and he'll be a lousy one for sure.

If I leave an empty Q the last thing I want is for MFL to pick for me off of an ADP list -- I am NEVER
in synch with the ADP list -- I take chances. I need a guarantee that if I leave an empty Q, MFL
won't pick for me. Since we are untimed, it should never pick for me...??

But then, as I said above, I like to have lists ready and now I have to do it by hand with paper and
pencil and that is way too messy and disorganized.

Well, logically, if you're 'away' then you're not around to pick, so you're telling the system to pick for you. This is only available in the live draft, isn't even be enabled unless you choose to do so. So I wouldn't worry about it, it was just a suggestion.

Assuming the live draft isn't enabled, there's only 2 (default) to 4 ways the system will pick for you, depending on how you have the league set up.

1. You have to manually set a queue for each round/pick. Each round/pick has its own queue. If you only set a queue for round 1, it's only for round 1. Queues do not carry over round to round. You can see who has queues set up for each pick on the draft report.

2. By default, and if you have a timer set, if your time runs out for a pick, the system will select the top player from your My Draft List. The My Draft List is initially empty, so you must fill this up yourself. If you have no queue and no players in the My Draft List when your time expires, then your pick is skipped and can be made up later.

3. Expanding on number 2, there's another option where the system will pick from ADP if your time expires and your My Draft List is empty. This is not on by default.

4. The commish can mark any team to be drafted for automatically. This is the explanation pulled directly from the page where you can make these changes:

Check all franchises that the system should automatically make all picks for as soon as they get on the draft clock. The system will automatically pick a player for the owner based the highest-ranked available player, first based on the owner's "My Draft List" player ranking, and then once that list is exhausted, according to rankings displayed on the ADP page. Note that pre-draft picks always take first precedence, so if an owner has pre-draft picks for a round, they will be checked for a possible draft pick instead of relying on this setting.

Additionally, the commish can go back and change any pick if needed.

Judy - At best, I think you are confused. At worst, I think your worries are unfounded.

First of all, forget about the "I'm away" or live draft option. We won't be using that option, so it's irrelevant. Ignore post 95 altogether.

Simply use the "My Draft List" as you would typically use the queue in OTC. The only time anything will be picked automatically from that list is if you time out. If you don't set the clock, that's never. But even with a 6-hour clock, you have 6 hours before anything is done by default. And if you are really worried, then leave a placeholder name at the top of your list, so that it's obviously not a real pick.

If you plan to be away, then copy some players from "My Draft List" into your queue for the next pick. If you will be away for an extended period, set up two separate queues for the next 2 rounds. If you come back before your queues have been used, then simply empty them.

Your general "My Draft List" will be unaffected by any of that, as long as you don't time out.

I don't foresee this draft going dramatically faster than those we are used to - unless a lot more people use queues. In OTC, queue picks weren't automated, but they were still generally made quite promptly.

We plan to run the draft untimed so how will that affect stuff?

Is this it?
if there is a player in the Q, he will be chosen automatically.
if the Q is empty nothing will happen until the manger makes a manual pick?

I find the new draft order intriguing. My gut feel is the draft slot 14 is the best because you have the 1st pick in rounds 2-4, but I am probably wrong. After making my selection, I found this article and totaled up the values for a 14 team draft.
http://subscribers.footballguys.com/2007/07pasquino_trr12.php

Using values from chart, slot 1 was best, and slot 9 was the worst.

Draft Slot - value total

1 - 5448
2 - 5413
3 - 5380
14 - 5373
4 - 5357
13 - 5348
5 - 5334
12 - 5328
6 - 5321

9 - 5302

I finally had time to check the scoring set up and discovered that several key scoring categories did
not come over from our 2009 league!! Important stats too -- like TD's... I believe that I
have fixed everything. I have asked Guru to send me a copy of his MFL scoring page(s) so I can
make sure. Feel free to look it over.

I also updated the post draft, preseason waiver wire order (opposite of draft order.)

Please, if at any time you see an error, let me know ASAP so I can investigate and fix. This is OUR
league and we want it to work right!

Those of you new to MFL are hopefully enjoying being able to set up your home page with all kinds
of crazy options.
