Anyone picking one up at launch or in the near future?
I'm geeked up about Perfect Dark Zero, Gun, and Call of Duty 2. I'm passing on Quake 4 because the PC version is too dark for my taste just like Doom 3.
I saw some trailers for Call of Duty 2 and I hope the images they show can be reproduced in gameplay and aren't just movies created to promote the game. |

I saw a commercial for Gun today. That looks badass.
I have Red Dead Revolver (by Rockstar) but I haven't ever opened it to try it yet. That game looked good, too. I'll get around to it one day.
I have been a Sony PS guy for a while. The ridiculous shenanigans on Sony's part have me seriously considering a boycott, and I've been thinking about XBox360 for my next console. I may or may not take the plunge. The Call of Duty graphics look amazing by the way. The game is on display at Best Buy and I saw a guy playing it the other day. I can't believe they were able to upgrade the visuals that much. TB and I were just talking about this tonight. We think if we play that game, we might actually get Gulf War Syndrome.

Doesn't surprise me about Sony. I read in either PSM or EGM magazine this month that the PSP can get a virus and a dirty rumor is that Sony created it.
I found a brief article on it.
Sony PSP Virus Discovered
The skinny behind why Sony would do it, according to what I read, is because they don't want people playing hacks on the PSP.
I'm getting the 360, but what I don't like is that Microsoft is making me shell out an extra $100 to get the system with a hard drive and other goodies. Then there's the regular version of the system without the hard drive. What Microsoft isn't saying loudly enough though is that it's cheaper to get the premium system than the regular system plus components. I'm figuring on the hard drive to save me $$$ on memory cards too.
If you haven't, you might want to check out EGM this month or do some googling. They've got pictures of all three next-gen controllers. Sony's looks like a boomerang (I like it.), the new XBox looks the same as the old one to me anyway, and the Nintendo one literally looks like a TV remote.
I saw a commercial for Perfect Dark Zero and I can't believe how good the graphics are going to look. I hope this is the system that gets people doing double takes when they walk past a TV and get confused as to if the real thing is on the TV or a video game.

I watched someone playing Call of Duty at Best Buy as well. I only wish I asked how much the system was going to cost. I am a cheap-o and usually wait at least a year before buying something, but that system looks awesome. Anyone know how much it cost? I've seen pre-buys going from 500-700 on ebay. Wow.

Just blowing through the Sunday paper and saw a huge disparity in pricing.
Am sure it is driven by exactly what you are getting.
The bundle price (in an add that said you had to buy it bundled) was $699.

Common ads were $299 and $399. $59.99 appears to be per game price.

I wish I got my hands on one of these XBox360s!!!. A girl at work got one and currently is at $1700 on ebay as of this morning!!!! Who the hell is gonna pay that much for a video game system???? But plenty of people are doing it!!!!
I'm gonna load up on PS3's if I can whenever those come out.

I thought about getting one, but decided to wait until the prices come down. I have always been a PS guy, and I have never really gotten used to the XBox controllers. The graphics are amazing on the 360, though, so, unless PS3 comes out as good or better, I may change my tune.

I waited outside Best Buy from 5:00pm Monday until 9:00am Tuesday morning and I got one.
The air temperature was about 30 degrees and about 10 degrees factoring in wind chill. I packed every warm coat and blanket I could find and toughed it out.
All told I say there was about 200 people in line and Best Buy got 60 systems. 48 Premium and 12 Core.
I got a chance to play a Perfect Dark Zero demo in the store and it was lights out in terms of graphics and gameplay.
I was #8 in line and grabbed a $400 Premium model with 3 games; Call of Duty 2, Gun, and Perfect Dark Zero. I also got a wireless adapter so if you see Darth Brad on XBox Live, that's me.
I've only gotten around to Call of Duty 2 right now. I like to focus on one game and finish it.

No XBox 360 here, but last week while clean out some old boxes in storage, I found my old Sega Genesis, 2 controllers and 4 games. I've been playing the heck out of Madden '92 ever since!
It just doesn't get much better than this, now does it?

My buddy actually WON one from the Pepsi under the cap thingy. I have to admit I was pretty suspicious about anyone actually winning anything from those those things, but there you go.
In hindsight, I should've picked one up to sell on Ebay. Seems like a 300% ROI is the going rate. Insanity, but I guess if you're rich and impatient its the way to go.

Only going ~50% markup now.

Prices are coming down because there is a glitch on many of them. Apparently something gets hot and causes the system to hang.

I need a replacement controller for my regular old-school XBox. My friend came back with a MadCatz XBox360 controller. I don't want to open it because it is wrapped in really thick plastic packaging.
Is the XBox360 Controller (it does not say wireless or USB anywhere on the packaging) compatible with an original XBox?
Thanks!

I would really doubt it. The older XBox controllers are wider plugs and the XBox360's are wireless where the recharge station plugs into a USB.
Go here and look on the message boards. I'm sure somebody's asked the same question.

They are not compatible. I don't even want the 360 now as the games aren't even appealing to me. You also need HDEF tv to get all the benefits I am told.

I knew there was a thread about Xbox's and PS3's somewhere here...
Anyway. The family is looking to make a console purchase for Christmas this year. The youngest (third grader) wants a Wii. The oldest (seventh grader) just wants a new DSi to replace the first-generation one that still works just fine, thank-you-very-much, save the single line of pixels in the top screen that went out when it was dropped a few years ago. (Read: Not going to happen)
I'm leaning towards either of the two latest-model Xbox 360 or PS3 and have swung the consensus that direction for the time being; the swing-factor being the Blu-Ray/Netflix/TV show downloading option.
There is no console history to take into account except for the Atari 2600 I received for Christmas in the late '70's. (I assume it's long-gone unless it's in a back corner of my parents attic. No, I'm not going to go look for it, either.)
So I ask you, Gurupie Nation, any pros and cons between the three systems?

I have a Wii- I bought it for my son 2 years ago- we absolutely love it. The only thing I would say about it is that it is not alot of fun to play by yourself. However if your kids have friends to play with I think they would absolutely love it. My friends and I have Wii Sports tournaments that last for days.

PS3 gets my vote. It really does everything. And you can stream your Netflix movies through it as well now. Yes you can do this with XBox but only if you pay your monthly internet fee so you are paying extra. PS3 has free web access.

I'm a PS3 guy. The technology is superior. Better processor and graphics card. You can play online for free. With x-box you gotta pay the man (Microsoft). There's a built-in web-browser, wi-fi, bluetooth. You can hook your camera up to it, a printer, a keyboard, whatever. Blueray. PS3 does it all.

Our current internet set-up is high speed cable modem. What type of arrangement would we need for a PS3 if we didn't want to go wi-fi?
Can you download TV shows from the web? I'm talking about sites like Hulu, NBC, etc.

You can hardwire an ethernet cable into the PS3 and have it online like that.

you'd need a router to be able to access internet from more than one device. I run my ps3 straight to the router with an ethernet cable (faster than wireless, good for gaming), and then the laptops in the house connect to the router via wireless.
and yeah you can watch stuff from hulu or youtube or whatever on the ps3. if your tv has hdmi input then get an hdmi cable.
I think you definitely need an hdtv for the ps3. I took mine to a friends house where there was only an old style tv and I didn't like it at all. huge difference.
you can get a router and wifi for a computer for under $100 easily.
I don't know if wii was part of the discussion, but I would never let anyone play wii in front of my tv. one flying controller would mean bye-bye plasma.

Price is Right game for today: Which costs more?
Wii + 3 more of every accessory + Rock Band 2 w/extra guitar + Wii Fit (the reason I "lost")
or
40" Samsung LCD to replace the 16 yeard-old Zenith that blew the tube (euphemism?) the Sunday before Thanksgiving.
Let's just say that I asked the first person that approached me at Best Buy the Wednesday before Thansksgiving (no comments, please- they had a 3 year's no interest deal and we were out-of-town for Black Friday) if they worked on commission. Too bad for her they don't.

great deals on TV's this winter. I just saw an ad for a 42" panasonic viera plasma for $550. I have the 50" version, just got it in september for $800. It's 720P but who cares, it looks great and most hd broadcasts and a lot of games are only 720P anyway. Can't believe these prices compared to just a year or two ago.

I'm trying to hold out for 1 more christmas before getting a new TV. The 65" Mitsubishi projection still looks good (SD). I figure (hope) I'll get something in that size (or larger) for sub 1K. We'll see.
The new LED HDs should drive the costs down on the "old tech" Plasmas and LCDs.

Wow. Time flies. I was looking for another old thread (expect another blast-from-the-past thread BUTT soon) when I came across this.
Console update: Guess who got an XBox 360 for Christmas this year? Question of the Day: We haven't been able to get the XBox Live account to activate. We've set up user names and accounts, have a memebership card, but we can't get to the point where we enter the code. I get a message like "XBox live is unavailable at this time." I've seen it repeatedly. Any suggestions?
