0 Subject: Poker 101 - Bonuses & Rakeback free money

Posted by: rockafellerskank - [49136120] Sat, Feb 04, 2006, 10:46

Let me start by telling you the reason for this thread. I see a lot of gurupies have taken up poker from the previous discussion threads. I did too in late 2004. In 2005 I was a novice playing mostly online at Poker Party low limit games. I played mostly $25 NL limit tables and managed to eek out a nice bankroll to begin 2006. But, this thread is dedicated to what I didn't know in 2005 that cost me about $3,000!!! Since I didn't know these things, perhaps some other Gurupies didn't either. Maybe some poker vets like bmd and ChicagoTRS and R9 did?

In the world on online poker there is a heck of a lot out there beyond Poker Stars and Party Poker. There are at least 40 poker sites that I know of. I currently have accounts at 9 sites (and growing) and have deposited and played real money at them. Why do you ask do i have so many? The answer is...

Bonus Whore

and

Rake Back

BONUSES:

First of all, these poker sites are competing for your business. Why ... see rake in the next topic. For every site you consider plating there is a possible bonus or referral to be had. It's like paying commission to get clients. The site above -- Bonus Whores is a site dedicated to tracking and posting bonus schedules (sign up and re-load) on about 40 different poker sites They also have an e-mail you can subscribe to and they e-mail you each time a new bonus is launched. Additionally, they have a complete review of each site ( Poker Party example ) which will tell you things about quality of games, customer service, deposit requirements, bonus terms and software. There's much more at this site. This is just the tip of the iceberg. This site doesn't really discuss rakeback -- why? Because like everything in this industry, they want you to sign up thru them (not a rakeback affiliate) so they get commission on you!!!!

Bonus Whore claims you can make $70,000 per year from going site to site and claiming bonuses. Of course, this assumes you play break-even poker and don't lose you stake. All sites have requirements of a certain amount of play to release your bonus to you. Usually, it is released to you in $10-$20 increments as your play mounts. Investigate carefully. Personally, I think it would be possible to clear $1000-$2000 per month whoring if you were playing medium limit ($1/$2 or $2/$4) NL and playing 20-30 hours per week. The $70,000 would assume you had a big bank roll to take advantage of all 40 sites AND you would have to play (guessing here) 50-60 hours per week. I'm sure people do this.

Rake Back

What is Rake and how do I get Rake Back?
Rake back FAQ

First of all... if you have downloaded the software from any current poker client, you won't be eligible for rake back. -- even if you have not funded or played real money yet. "They" have tracked you and "they" are not about to pay commission to someone else after "they" already have you as a customer. This is where I lost an estimated $3,000 last year. I played with no rake back in 2005. I estimate that my play volume would have yielded that muck in kickback to me.

In short, rake is what the casino keeps per pot. Usually 3%-5% (max $3) and how they make their profit. You'd be surprised at how many $1000s of dollars you pay in rake per month or year! Rake Back works by giving you back a percentage of the rake -- usually 25%-$35%. Example, a pot (assuming your dealt cards to qualify) that has a $50 pot will rake $2.50. Assuming a full 9 player ring game means each player gets about $0.30 rake x 25% = a $0.075 "rake back" to you. It doesn't sound like much, but add it uo if you play 10,000 hands per month = $1500!!!! Most rakes at low limits will be 25-50 cents though, so don't get too excited yet big spender. To see what you might be eligible for in rebate, check out this rake back calculator

Virtually every poker site has at least 1 rake back provider They don't advertise this because they want to get you for commission-free. These rake back providers also have various offers. They ARE negotiable too depending on your volume of play. I was able to negotiate as high as 40% rake back from one site. If you need help finding who rebates to a particular site, contact me and I’ll be glad to help.

Go to the sites to read the detail. How do you get paid? Depends on the poker client, but usually, 1x or 2X per month, they add it to your poker funds on that site (like a bonus). This is not smoke. In 01/06 I earned about $600.00 in rake back rebate.

Referral Bonuses

EVERYONE has a referral bonus that I know of (except Full Tilt). You can get money from poker sites and you can get money from rake back sites for signing up your friends. Be sure to follow the directions or you won’t get credit. You usually have to follow special referral links: links and they new play must meet certain play/deposit requirements for the bonus to be paid.

I can't imagine why anyone would sign up for a new poker site without getting/giving a referral bonus or rakeback bonus. If anyone has any questions about this process, feel free to e-mail me. I’d be happy to share my experiences – both good and bad—based on my time online.

I'm going to follow up this post with some things I've learned about cashing out and getting cash into poker sites that will help you be safe and reduce fees. I also would recommend some poker forums for good discussion. Think of them as the rotogurus of the poker world.

2+2 forum
the poker forum.com

Finally, and lastly, if anyone wishes to get into these poker sites, you are welcome to e-mail me (or use me for a referral and we can split bonuses!) As I said in the beginning, I posted this because I missed out on so much last year. I won't even play a site now if I don't get paid bonuses and/or rake back.

PS YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED THAT ROTOGURU HAS A BANNER AD FOR NOBLE POKER. IF YOU PLAY THERE, I’M SURE DAVE WOULD APPRECIATE YOU USING HIS LINK TO DOWNLOAD THE SITE !!!

Don't play over your head. I'm not trying to encourage anyone to gamble if you aren't comfortable. You don't have to start big. For example, I tried out a site not long ago. Put in $25 and built it to $270.00 in one weekend playing very low limits. Take it slow -- AND SMART.

Anyone looking for $50 to play poker with? No strings attached. Email me and I'll tell you how a company will give you $50 for free. The only catch: if you make money, you give the original $50 back. Still though, you keep all the profits. I've been doing this for weeks. It works.

Great post rfs. I've always felt that there was money to be made site-hopping, I just never really looked into it all that much. Focused on two sites the most (Pokerstars and PartyPoker) and added a third (Pacific) recently. I also already made an account at GamingClub, to look around. Once I get back from Vegas I'm going to look into this more, and start site hopping. I'll e-mail you, and maybe we can discuss referal bonuses and such.

I think bonus hunting is good to a point but really if you are a good player in some respects it is a waste of time and you will earn more just playing. If you are trying to build a bankroll I could see using bonus money to your advantage.

Personally I think your time would be better spent reading and learning to play better so you can earn consistently...because really the bonuses are chicken scratch compared to what you can earn as a winning player.

Rake back programs are certainly worthwhile if you are playing a lot of hours. Referral bonuses can certainly be lucrative especially through rakebacks where you are getting a small percentage of that persons rake...refer a couple regular players and you can get decent checks monthly.

I play most of my poker at real tables, rather than online - but I do enjoy playing online. I read the sites you linked (some I have visited often before, like 2+2), and did some research on bonus/rake. I've decided to start with sunpoker.com (formerly carribean) for these:
quick $50 100% signup bonus,
quick monthly $40 (200 raked hands)
and the 32% rakeback from rakerebate.net

The goal is to get the bonuses swiftly, of course. The rakeback will just be a bonus. After this, I'll likely start at Empire for the 20% up to $100 bonus, combined with another rakeback... Very similar bonus to Party Poker, but I didn't see a Party Poker rakeback offer yet.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Bet-fred poker 100% match bonus upto 200$. 10 raked hands for every bonus dollar do 2000 hands for 2000. Hands must be played at a min .25/.50 nl not sure about limit. Play is pretty soft with some nice tourneys too. Customer support is awesome and easy cashout and raked hands update. They also have some nice bonus' sometimes like the month I played the first 150 people to play 1500 raked hands received a 125GBP pair of Bolle sunglasses. If anyone wants a referral for an extra $25 email me, plus I can help anyone start on a micro budget.

R9 Do you mind giving a good site to start???

I was playing at a table and one guy said that he made a percentage of each rake for just sitting there and playing hands.

Have you heard of such a thing?

Depends on what kind of play you're looking for.

At Pacific Poker, the games are so loose that its hard to imagine where these people get their money. Easily the most profitable site I've played at, but the variance is very high. You have to be able to stomach some sickening bad beats. (In one day I made 500$ playing at 100 NL, the next I lost 800$, then the day after that I won 1200$.)

At places like Pokerstars and Interpoker, the games are tight. I tend to win alot of small pots by playing agressive. Not as action packed (or fun to me) as Pacific, but definitely easier on the bankroll variance.

Party Poker I'd say is somewhere in the middle. The games aren't nearly as tight as Pstars and Inter, but no site ever comes close to Pacific's wildness.

Pick one that suits what you're looking for. All have micro limit to high limit tables, so bankroll size isn't too much of a factor.

The guy was talking about rakeback. Check out rfs's opening post here, he links to a site that lists all the rakeback offers. Sign up to the poker sites through their links (their pages give instructions on the correct procedure to follow) and you'll get a percentage (usually between 25-35%) of the rake you pay back.

I have no idea if anyone else would be interested in this, but I think I'm going to attend this poker conference from 4/13 to 4/15.

PS -- This is just an excuse to go to Vegas and gamble!

Well rake back and bonus whoring is paying well over the past 4 months. At Absolute Poker:

I've averaged $750 cash paid back to me in rack back.
I've cleared $350 to $400 in bonuses each month.
And, I have a bazillion bonues points for closet full of t-shirts and caps, etc..

If you haven't hooked up with a rakeback sire, your missing the (full)boat.

Anyway, what brought tis thread back to my attention was this site:

http://www.premierpokerprops.com/

Anyone know much about propping?

I'm looking into it, but could this be a realistic way to quadruple my rackback each month? Just curious if anyone knows much about the propping business. I know some site definetly employee props, but had no clue how it worked.
