Watched "Kramer" losing it on Youtube...I was really sickened by it. He really lost it.
I feel it may take him a long time to get past this...if the public ever lets him.
I also watched his interview with Letterman. He didn't look well---as is expected.

I think he's had it very tough since Seinfeld went off the air. Mentally, that is.

disgraceful. surely a comedian of his stature should be able to come up with something a touch more funnier to a heckler.

What he did isn't really excusable and seriously disappointing. What's going to be worse is the inevitable media shelling we're going to endure from Jesse Jackson (Whose campaign in 1984, IIRC, was wrecked via a racist remark.), Al Sharpton, and any other prominent member of the PC Police who will act as if they've never said a bad word in their lives.

It's been nearly a week and I haven't heard any shelling at all from those people. Have you, Boxman? Sounds like your anti-PC reactionism is in full-force, however.

I would like to hear what the hecklers said to send him into rage like that.

Jesse Jackson was on The Today Show this morning with Lester Holt. Al Sharpton has weighed in on this as well.
I would like to hear what the hecklers said to send him into rage like that.
I would too.

He is a racist pure and simple. If it wasn't already in his heart it would have never come out of his mouth no matter how bad he was heckled.

Sharon dont fool yourself...there is racism in every human being including both you and me. It is just as natural as the need to survive and the need for love. It is 100% natural for people to identify with people who look like themselves and share other similar characteristics. I know I feel uncomfortable being around people covered with tatoos or body piercings. Are black people "racist" for wanting to live in neighborhoods where most of the other people are also black? Or are they just acting on the natural feelings of wanting to live with people they can identify with.
The question here is to what extent do people allow the natural feelings of racism to dominate their thoughts and spill over into actual words or actions. This is what seperates the "evil" racists from the "natural" racist. The majority of people are able to control their words and thier actions. Just because someone like Richards "loses it" and spouts off doesnt mean they need to be condemned for being an "evil" racist. I think we need to examine his words as well as his actions. Other than this tirade are you aware of him acting out in a negative way towards other ethnic groups? I listen to talk radio frequently and I often hear callers who identify themselves as African-American making the most blatently racist/steriotypical comments on a daily basis. And yet little if anything is ever said about this public display of racism. Have you ever laughed at a comedian who told a steriotypical joke about another race/culture? If you found the joke funny it is only because you believe the steriotype. Does that make you a racist in need of therapy? I think we need to take Richards at his word that he has apologized and feels bad for what happened and move on. If it becomes something that keeps happening then we can condemn for being a racist. For now we need to get off our collective high-horses and realize that mental lapses could happen to any of us. Racism is much like murder. We have ALL encountered that person who has brought us to the point of exasperation and had the thought cross our mind that we wouldnt mind seeing that person dead. 99.9% of us are able to control our anger and find other ways to deal with the situation while .1% cannot. Just because we have the thought doesnt make us all murderers.

Interesting. I don't think Michael Richards is evil. But I do think that he is self-centered, thin-skinned, and somewhat unintelligent.
He should definitely be punished. But I don't think he is evil.

Well said Weycool. We have all been pushed to the point where we say something that we don't mean, maybe not to the point of Richards, but we feel like total asses after.

I finally got around to watching it. Man, he snapped. What a dumbass. No excuse for his words, pure racism. You would think that an experienced comedian would be able to handle hecklers or just flat out walk off the stage and demand that management remove them before he would continue.

That's just not the case at all.

I am having a hard time digesting something about Kramergate. Now before you read on, I am not excusing his behavior. I'm just trying to figure out the disconnect involving racially based comments.
Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle (I'm sure there are others too.), whom I both enjoy immensely, make jokes about white people ad nauseum and admittedly they are pretty funny.
Now, what Richards did was a rant and not a routine so it is different than Rock or Chappelle in that sense.
Yet, I would like to know, at what point is it safe for everybody to say the word "nigger"?
Do we have an equal society, that I and every sane individual wants, if one group is untouchable while one group can be picked on? Think along the comparative of the Muslim cartoon reaction versus the reactions when there is a controversial Christian art exhibit at the museum or a cartoon.
Again, I am not condoning this specific case, I am only trying to understand the sociology behind it all.

Yeah, what Richards did was different, both in absolute terms and in relative terms.
Richards attacked customers at the club with words intended to inflict psychological harm--using words like "nigger" which are traditional word weapons of the bigot (I won't go into whether he is or is not a bigot. But his word choice and actions were clear).
Rock and Chappelle both use race as a takeoff point for humor, particularly the differences between races. Do they intend to inflict harm upon whites? No.
Yet, I would like to know, at what point is it safe for everybody to say the word "nigger"?
In order to put down someone? Never.

I did'nt want to start another thread, but in the pig vs pig battle I would like to thank Rosie and The Donald for providing one of the best laughs of the year.
IMHO they were both correct in thier assesments of each other.
