My bro-in-law was one of the beta testers for this offering from Blizzard and he highly suggests getting the game. Says its a GREAT one. So, I looked into it..

$50 to get the game plus $15/m to play. Seems to me, at $180/yr to play, they ought to be giving the game away for free.

This is one hardcore fantasy gamer, who is going to pass on WoW.

The game is good. I beta tested and also picked it up the day it came out. $180 may seem like a lot, but most people who play will play much more than 180 hours worth, which is only $1 an hour, less than what you pay to see a movie. People always complain about the monthly fees, but they don't realize how much everything else they pay for costs in terms of cost/hour.

OR, you can just buy GTA San Andreas for $50 and play until February trying to get 100% completion.

$230 to play a video game for a year? No thanks. I'd rather go to the movies 35 times, or buy 5 PS2 games.

I am personally not a MMORPG player, but I do know certain people who do play.

One of my roommates used to play them and has made $1500 selling accounts (profit). I do not know who in the right mind buys these accounts, but they do get sold and bought quite frequently.

bonka, I think it safe to say that well over 50,000 copies of this game will sell within 90 days.

At an assumed 80% enrolment rate and $15/m, that makes 40,000 paying customers or $600,000/m in renewable revenue flow. For that price, I'd expect some of those 1-900 babes to personally come to the house and 'instruct' me on the finer points of game play.

Well those servers and bandwidth aren't cheap, along with paying teams to fix problems and add new content. Yes, there's still some decent money there, but the company has to profit...

It all comes down to what you're paying for your enjoyment. Many of us gladly will pay the $12.99 to $14.99 (1, 3, or 6 month prepays) for many hours of play each month. Hell, it would cost you that to go see a movie and eat popcorn for 2 hours.

agreed. But Blizz does NOT have the track record IMHO, to warrant a monthly fee in excess of 8-10 bucks. Their history is less than stellar in providing on-line customer service. (This opinion comes from a 5 year player of Diablo/Diablo 2/Hellfire/LoD.)

I know this game is not at all the same as its predecessors, but I've always loved the Warcraft series. Warcraft 3 got me totally addicted to computer games after a very long layoff. Not so sure about paying a monthly fee though. I love my video games, but that is pretty steep.

A friend of mine and I paid for 2 years of college from selling MMORPG assets. Goooo power leveling, and goooo lazy people who don't want to level characters!
