My wife and I are thinking about taking a short vaction to Vegas. We aren't sure where to stay. I was curious if anyone has an opinion on where to stay/not stay. We are planning mostly on relaxation, neither of plan on gambling alot. Mostly just to get away from the kids and enjoy some warm weather.

We were thinking about Mandalay Bay due to the fact it looks the most like a resort.

Any opinions or experiences that you would care to share?

If you aren't gamblers, I'd move off the strip a bit. I'd recommend Green Valley Ranch

I'm just glad this isn't about the TV show.

If you want to be on the strip, I can recommend the Venetian. I stayed there 2 years ago and liked it a lot. Mandalay Bay is good too - the only thing there is that it's at the end of the strip, so if you wanted to tour the casinos or go downtown you'll have a bit of a hike.

While I'm not huge on gambling, most of the walking distance sites are on the strip. I don't want to rent a car, just to avoid the hassle.

I'm not opposed to walking a bit, we'll probably going in March or April so it isn't like the weather will be full summer heat.

About a year or so I stayed in one of the lower level suites in Treasure Island, and was greatly impressed, it was off season though, so we didn't partake in many of the amenities. Really though you can't go too wrong with any of the major strip resorts, Venitian, Balagio, Mandalay etc. Really it depends on what you are looking for, some have say limited pool hours, but 24 hour use of the spas, and hottubs outside. Others lockup their spas, with the pools at like ten.

Mandalay is definitely nice...any of the 4* and 5* hotels on the strip will probably give you everything you need.

Lots and lots of Choices.
Don't get so caught up on location because of the Trams now.

In addition to those already listed.

Harrahs, Mirage, Ceasars

Wynn is up the Strip a bit, but I'm hearing lots of good about it.

Also, Monte Carlo, New York New York, Paris, Ballys, MGM.

Another option that takes you off the strip is Rio, really nice place and the carnival is great.
Cab to and from the strip would only be a couple of bucks.

Also, the Palms is cady-corner across the street, but would recommend Rio over it.

Any questions please feel free to ask.

Stayed at the Rio a number of times myself, if strip location isn't an issue, I really love the Rio, you got a great bang for your buck, although the window in the bathroom that leads into the bedroom is a little weird.

THEHotel at Mandalay Bay is my favorite place to stay, having also stayed at Wynn, New York, New York, Monte Carlo, and Mandalay Bay.

If you're there for relaxation and more of a resort-type experience, and also want to walk around and take in the sights, I'd recommend sticking to the nicer places on the strip (Bellagio, Venetian, Mandalay, Caesars, Wynn, MGM, etc.) You don't have to go with their highest-end products (such as THEHotel or Caesar Towers or whatever the newest MGM upgrade is) but these places will offer the best niceties like pool, spa, restaurants, and general conveniences of a nice vacation. If you wanted lower limit gambling tables, solid but inexpensive buffets, and just a place to crash in between nights out on the town, I'd recommend saving on a room and spending the money elsewhere. But if you want a relaxing time from your Vegas experience (with less of the party crowd riff-raff), pay for one of the nicer places. I'd also stick to the strip and not do Rio or Palms, if you're wanting to walk the strip and be somewhat centrally located.

Lastly, if considering a March/April trip, do steer clear of the first 2 weekends of the NCAA Tournament! Places are probably booked anyway, but those weekends aren't exactly ideal for the relax/resort vacationer.
