My buddy on the west coast told me the easiest way to find out about good tunes that you will never hear on TRL is to go to the website for the great station 107.7 in Seattle. So I did - I downloaded some of the tunes they reccomend. Good stuff.

Seems like an easy enough way to keep in touch with whats new (and actually good, not MTV's usual crap). Good mix of some eclectic stuff and more mainstream like U2. But they don't always just have the singles, sometimes just good random tracks off the various albums.

My current favorites are Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, Modest Mouse (who have been around for an eternity!), the new Green Day is surprisingly good, I like Keane a lot, good relaxing to study too.

KEXP is better.

Check out their streaming archives. I personally like Amanda Wilde's tastes, but there is new music for everyone's tastes.

The End is a great station, but I wouldn't put them in KISW 99.9's class. I never really like the music on KEXP, but a lot of people did. They must just have bad taste.

this is sort of unrelated, but there is (was?) a station in cali that is KOME. They used to have a catch phrase that went "Don't touch that dial! There's KOME on it!"

KISW has changed formats a bit and can pretty much be summed up as "Hair Bands for the 21st century," not that there is anything wrong with that.

For the next two days, if anyone see's me on here yell at me to GO STUDY!

Thanks.
I am going to get a FatCat from the grease trucks and am gonna keep on pushing!
This sucks.

On a brighter note, I asked a good charlotte question which no one responded too. Some of the lyrics in their new single were taken from A Message to You Rudy by the Specials!
I knew I recognized it.
Now if I can figure out the rest and where they stole the riff from I will be happy.

Go study go study go study... procrastionations like masturbation - you're only f'n yourself.... go study.. later.

I reccomend everyone download some tunes by The Streets. I am in awe. They essentially poets over music (Similar to what William Shatner did but I think its a bit more interesting). Some of its pretty funny too about the law and drugs and playstation.

Blender said they were the musical Seinfeld.
I am liking Dry Your Eyes Mate, great breakup song.
Alright, break over! back to work.

Great One-

The Streets is one guy, Mike Skinner, from England. His debut album, Original Pirate Material, is awesome, and his second one, A Grand Don't Come For Free (the one with Dry Your Eyes) is dope too. He reportedly makes his albums in his bedroom, on some relatively inexpensive study gear. Great merging of British garage and hip hop, and really funny at times.

I have been recently turned on to Rilo Kiley. They are my new obsession. I just went and bought two of their albums. Good starting song would be Pictures of Success. Go download that and give me your reviews.

Remind me of the Pixies at times, singer reminds me of Kim Deal from Pixies/Breeders a bit.

Great voice. Great lyrics. Great melodies. Thats a combo thats tough to find.

I've listened to "More Adventurous" many many times over. Great album. "Does He Love You?" is a fantastic song. Haven't listened to much of Rilo Kiley's earlier stuff, but it's got to be good. If you haven't found them already, there are a lot of live downloads at rilokiley.net.

Based on what you've posted in this thread, I'd recommend checking out:

-- "Funeral," The Arcade Fire
-- "Final Straw," Snow Patrol
-- "Seven Swans," Sufjan Stevens (who also has some *awesome* Christmas EPs floating around on the Internets)
-- "Long Gone Before Daylight," The Cardigans
-- "Alphabetical," Phoenix
-- "Lost Souls," Doves
-- "Wet From Birth," The Faint
-- "Inches," Les Savy Fav
-- "Her Majesty The Decemberists," The Decemberists
-- "Our Endless Numbered Days," Iron & Wine
-- "It Still Moves," My Morning Jacket
-- "Kill The Moonlight," Spoon
-- "Promise Of Love," American Analog Set

Naturally, have to tack on Interpol, The Shins, Flaming Lips, etc. I'm trying to track down an album called "Charm School," by Bishop Allen right now. The singles I've heard have all been good.

Guessing you've probably listened to some, if not all, of these. ;) Feel free to pass back more recommendations.

I recognize most of those... especially love My Morning Jacket, saw them at Bonaroo.

Just downloaded Phoenix last night actually.

I like that Phoenix album quite a lot. There is absolutely no reason that half those tracks couldn't be radio hits if they had label backing here.

A couple more that have a different sound than most anything I've seen out there:

-- "Thunder Lightning Strike," The Go! Team (punky cheerleader chants vs. 70s action TV themes. you have to listen)
-- "Wild Like Children," Tilly & The Wall

Also Ratatat if you like instrumental stuff. Synth, snares and electric guitar. Pretty good, but I can't listen to too much at at time.

I wish more of these bands came through where I live. Don't get a chance to see them. The Cure canceled a show this summer where Interpol was going to play with them, and Snow Patrol, whom I really love, canceled a Boise show I was going to try to go to. Not such good luck so far.

I was on Promosquad which is a rating system for potential radio songs and Phoenix got extremely high rankings, so I would imagine they are headed that way.

Great One-- I have been curious to hear what Rilo Keley sound like, because they've been getting a lot of critical love the past few months. Also, the singer is the girl from "The Wizard," that movie with Fred Savage about the Nintendo wizard kid, which introduced the ill-fated Nintendo glove controller (I used to love that movie when I was little).

James K. Polk-- The Arcade Fire's "Funeral" is in my Top 5 albums of the year list, as is Interpol's "Antics." Both albums are pure genius, IMO.

I am typically not a huge fan of female singers, but there is something about her voice and delivery. Looked her up on IMDB she has been in a bunch of bad movies lol..
