Not sure if anyone else watched this show, it basically is what launched Spike TV. Watching it again on DVD right now, just a great idea and very funny!

I watched it as it aired. It was hilarious. Everything was sooo over the top and the guy bought into it the whole time. And it's not as if he was just really gullible- the producers and all the actors played it up like a B-list reality show to the point where I wasn't sure who really was acting and who was the Schmoe.

My favorite was toward the end when the producers try to get him to talk bad about the host and the host grills him right after he leaves the interview room, "Did they say anything about me?" and was always comparing himself to Ryan Seacrest because, IIRC, he had turned down American Idol and Seacrest got it and became famous.

My favorite character was "Dr." Pat the relationship expert that had been married and divorced three or four times- but it was never her fault- before she was 30.

Yeah it was just great. Matt Gould was just an awesome person too, amazing just how nice he was through out it all, always caring about the other people and making sure nothing was wrong.

I'd suggest getting it Tree, this is probably the 4th time i've popped it out.

i don't remember the exact details of the scene, but the part where he ends up in the hot tub with one of the girls, and her boyfriends shows up as a "surprise...omg..

That was funny, too. She was the hot, blonde virgin. Wasn't she in the hot tub with the skeevie "law enforcement official" (mall security guard currently between jobs.) He stood up and he had removed his swimsuit and was like, "What? What's the problem?"

Joe Schmoe was very a addicting show. Like an accident you could not turn away from. The guy Matt that they cast as the Schmoe is what made the show funny. They did also a good job of coming up with stereo-typical reality contestants. I kept wondering how Matt could not figure out "Lap of Luxury" was a hoax. They should re-play it sometime, or put it on the Reality Channel where other reality shows ge a second showing.

It would be great if they could find a way to repeat the Joe Shmoe concept.

I remember Spike tried coming up with a Joe Schmoe 2 and do a dating show, but that did not work for me. Fox tried the same concept with another dating/wedding type show 'My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance', but it also fell flat.

Along the same lines as Joe Schmoe, I did liked the Fox's 'Obnoxious Boss' series which spoofed the Apprentice, but ratings were bad and it got cancelled mid-series. The final episodes for that one were available on the web.

Joe Schmoe 2 didn't work because they had 2 Schmoes- a guy and a girl- and the girl had it all figured out by episode 3. In fact, one of the "actresses" gave it away in the very first episode. The actress was just there as filler to be eliminated during the opening scenes of the first episode and Jo Schmoe (the girl) asked how she (the actress) got on the show and she said, "My agent called me and said I had a gig."

It went downhill from there because Jo questioned EVERYTHING that happened. The producers let her in on the gag, but by that point she had pretty much convinced Joe that it was a set-up and it was too late to salvage it.

Tree is taking about when Matt is handcuffed with the guys GF, and he comes out playing his G-tar and signing her a song. Then she throws on a Robe and they are trying to talk but Matt is still handcuffed there, he looks so uncomfortable and feels bad cause he wants to leave them alone. That guy is now in commericals signing for something with his G-tar.

I loved the exit line. He smashes their plate and says, "Hutch, You're dead to us" Great stuff.

I actually liked Joe Schmoe 2 but it was a little awkward as the Joe seemed to be into the girl which made it a bit more dirty then the original.

That beginning was hilarious to 2 as well because they got rid of all the black people right away, which is what was happening in reality shows all the time.

Schmo 1 awesome. The actors in it were so much better than those in the 2nd one. Hutch bragging about banging the Doctor lady was hilarious. Matt was perfect for the show as he wasn't on the show for anything besides the "experience".

The 2nd one was pretty good. The guy on it was very similar to Matt and I loved how he always said "jackpot".
