0 Subject: Extra Tool ticket - Wednesday in Peoria

Posted by: Slackjawed Yokel - Leader [052347519] Mon, Jun 18, 2007, 23:33

So, any Tool fans in here? My wife decided she didn't want to go, so I'm stuck with an extra ticket. I'd sell it for what I payed (~$60). Show is this Wednesday - 6/20, floor ticket (GA).

I saw Tool for the first time two weeks ago and for the second time three days ago. They were great in Atlanta, unbelievable at Bonnaroo. GA ticket for $60? Buy this ticket, people.

I'm pretty sure they pay you to go to Peoria...

...but you can never leave.

Well, I found a co-worker who will go (who I just found out is a Tool fan, and is willing to take the 6hr round trip). The good thing is I have to go to Peoria about once a month on business, so my rental car/hotel/meals etc are paid for. (funny how it works out that my day in Peoria this month coincides with the concert....)

Razor - it's good to hear the shows've been good. I saw Tool at Ozzfest a number of years back, but it was a somewhat abbreviated set, so I've really been looking forward to this.

I'd love to hear a more lengthy review of the Bonnaroo show. We're considering driving down from the northeast to attend next year.

See. I told you they pay you to go to Peoria. ;)

Saw Tool a few years back. Interesting show. Still have no idea what anyone in the band looks like. They played in the dark facing away from the crowd.

Maynard still stays hidden from view. The lights never shine on him.

Bonnaroo is awesome. I only own albums from five of the artists in attendance and was interested in a handful of others, but I was not one of those people who looked at the lineup and saw 20-30 bands that I needed to see. Hell, I still don't know who most of the bands in attendance are. I think some people go just for the festival experience and to see a bunch of new music. That's not me. I liked the festival experience, but I need to have bands I am really interested in to be interested in going. They were there this year (Tool, Police, Regina Spektor, Lily Allen), so it was pretty fantastic. I could give a crap about the jam bands, but I'd say 1/3 or more of the attendees were there to see them.

If you are prepared to rough it for a few days, it's a great time. Basically no running water, Portapotties only, tons of low level drug use in plain view, and this year, it was dusty as hell. The heat can wear on you, especially when you are out there from 1 p.m. to 3 a.m. or longer. We took tons of food and water and had ample shade and space at our campsite, but it's still not an ideal living experience not being able to shower or bathroom facilities. Oddly, I never smelled anyone's BO, including my own. It might have been due to the congestion from inhaling so much dust and smoke, though.

they've got those portable shower things. you fill it with water, hang it from a tree, release the valve. works ok. better than just being filthy. some of em come with a shower curtain.

Ya, some people used those. A lot of people used the sinks at the stations they had setup everywhere, but those were usually pretty filthy themselves. To be honest, I didn't really care how dirty I was. Everyone else was dirty too, and it is pretty unavoidable with the dust, smoke and heat.

Is it always in Tennessee?

I believe it is at the same place in Tennessee, so yes.

Yes, Manchester, TN, which is about 200 miles from Atlanta. I looked at the lineups for other major festivals, and I think the Bonnaroo's might be the best, which is why there is a national audience. I don't think I saw a single GA license plate there, but I saw plates from just about everywhere else, most of them pretty far away. I had the luxury of being able to drive up after taking a half day on Friday. The problem with that is that people who come from far away get there early on Friday or on Thursday (when the festival starts), so we got one of the furthest, if not the furthest, campsite.

It is a nice lineup, though perhaps a bit heavy on the twang.

White Stripes. Ben Harper. Wilco. Spearhead.

Those alone would be enough to get me there if it were anywhere near civilization. As it is, I'd be afraid of highwaymen. ;)

I've seen some good shows in my years - but Ben Harper is certainly near the top of that list.

Anybody who claims to have good in taste in music should buy a ticket to see him. Usually a great acoustic set, and then some rock, mixed with some reggae... always has some special guests. Great package.

I'll take Tool, Police, Franz Ferdinand, Flaming Lips and White Stripes over Rage, RHCP, Interpol, Arcade Fire and Bdork. The lineups are pretty similar after that.

The lineups are pretty similar, I would personally still prefer Bonaroo.
Widespread Panic is pretty awesome too and they are a Bonaroo staple.

Also the comedy stuff - Lewis Black and David Cross is a big bonus.

2006 was pretty awesome...
Radiohead
Beck
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
Death Cab for Cutie
Bright Eyes
Medeski Martin & Wood
The Streets
Ben Folds

and the you got
Phil Lesh from The Dead
Oysterhead which is that dude from Phish I believe
Bela Fleck

Oh, come on

Manu Chao
Paul Van Dyk
Air
Richie Hawtin
Infected Mushroom (trust me)
DJ SHADOW!
Felix Da Housecat
Gogol Bordello
TIESTO!
Gotan Project

Now that's a festival!

Manu Chao and DJ Shadow were at both. I'll give you Van Dyk. To the rest I say, "who? who? who? who? who? who? who?"
