With all the great music threads as of late I thought one on people's
MOST recent music downloads would be interesting----the
YouTube thread here led me to download Jeff Buckley's
"Hallelujah".

I also downloaded Queens of the Stone Age "Era Vulgaris" (entire
album). Being a big fan of Homme, I am very impressed with the
diveristy the album provides.

Later, aC

I just earned a few free downloads so this would be a good way to use them!

I'll brainstorm this afternoon.

hopefully you paid for these downloads...

but yea, Hallelujah is great stuff. even more amazing is that he took a Leonard Cohen-penned song performed by John Cale, and somehow, improved on it.

i'm glad i got to see Buckley live before his "accidental" drowning...

Era Vulgaris is amazing. Josh Homme really can do no wrong. angryChair, do you have any Kyuss albums?

There's been a lot of really good music this year so far. The new Smashing Pumpkins is amazing as expected, but in a different way than previous albums (which I guess is what you'd expect from Corgan). I think my favorite song right now on Zeitgeist is "United States". It kind of reminds me of a studio version of the band playing live. The second half of the song is out of control.

The new Modest Mouse is a masterpiece as well. "Parting of the Sensory" especially, but really the whole way through.

Do any of you guys listen to the Burning Brides? If you like Queens of the Stone Age I think you'll appreciate them, they just write and play every song with the intention of destroying anyone listening. Off of their new album check out "Ring around the Rosary", "San Diego", and "Your Nation Will Die" especially. I saw them live in Seattle last week, there were probably only about 20 people there which is absolutely criminal. Their first album "Fall of the Plastic Empire" is one of the greatest rock albums EVER released. I'm all fired up now.

Though they didn't come out this year, I'm really loving the Silversun Pickups. Every review said they sound exactly like the Pumpkins, so I was skeptical at first because I think the Pumpkins are the greatest band of all time. But there's definitely a huge influence there and that's a great thing. Check out "Kissing Families" or "Dream at Tempo 119". Both albums are perfect all the way through.

I could go on for hours, I need to get to bed.

Love Queens of the Stoneage! Love Era Vulgaris. I am listening to that, new White Stripes (seeing them next week in NYC) and new Smashing Pumpkins. New Queens is my fave of these three.

look into Burnung Brides, thanks!

re: Kyuss---I have a ton of their stuff including imports. I also like
UNIDA and Fatso Jetson both of the "Stoner Rock" genre.

Nice to hear the SPumpkins is good as well.

I have a Kyuss album. I routinely cite it as one of the worst pieces of music that I own. It's horrible.

I can conscientiously plug the new Velvet Revolver and Smashing Pumpkins albums, neither of which I downloaded, but both of which have provided some nice new rock music to listen to this July. Thank you Rock Gods.

working in the music and video business we tend to have access to a lot of things well before they come out. i cannot remember the last time we heard a CD so universally anticipated, then so universally disappointing. positively a terrible album.

Yes, with Cantrell. I saw AIC two times last year, and would see them again this year (love them mucho!), but alas, will be outta town when they come to NY and NJ.

The new singer, William Duvall, is good (from the band, Comes With the Fall), but of course, is no Layne Staley. He hits the high notes though, and is very modest. He does not pretend to be a Layne substitute. Who is? The music still sounds great, and the rhythms and intensity are still there. What's lacking is Layne's presence and unusual charisma. Whaddya gonna do? I'd see them again and again...

Last year, at the Nokia theater in Times Square, they played hard stuff, then 30 minutes of acoustic only stuff, then back to more hard stuff. The place, which holds a thousand or so, was jam packed. It was great. And I'm old, too.

If you can go, and if you love AIC, you will have a good time.

MC, if you hate your kyuss album, then that's just a matter of taste. I love this band and all of their derivatives. However, Kyuss is just so cool, so sabbath-like in their sound. Yet, I also love QOTSA, they are more eclectic, and funny, but also are hard.

Regarding AIC - it's long time band members Cantrell, Inez, and Kinney, joined by Comes The Fall's William DuVall, who has been singing with them for awhile now.

Chair - i work for a large independent music and video distributor. we're the largest indie not owned by a major label. as for me, my title won't mean anything to you, but i'm the main liaison between us, and the video companies we distribute.

Tree---Was it you who was involved with the "G W Bush" movie?

Have not seen the new AIC---hard to lose Staley---though
Cantrell was a major part of the band.

As for Kyuss---definitely influenced by BSab---I appreciate the
heavy sludge sound of their songs---Homme is a talented guitar
player. Garcia, a little psyco, but a unique frontman.

Garcia also can be found, as I am sure you know, in the bands:
Unida, Hermano, and Slo Burn. Unida being the most amazing
of all (including Kyuss). If you do not have their only full album:
"Coping with the Urban Coyote" it's worth the effort to find it--
though you will pay a fair amount.

angryChair, for some reason it dawned on me to check if Unida had a myspace page and it looks like they do. It's not loading right now, but I listened to one of the songs and it completely blew me away, I forget the name of it. Have you heard any rumors about the album getting re-released?

I downloaded DarkBASIC the other day to show my 9 year old the (BASIC) guts behind the games he might play. Hopefully we can expand upon this and he can write his own stuff.

Yeah. I know its not music, but it is what I DL'd.

I just picked up "Spine of God" by Monster Magnet and I'm completely blown away. I've only listened twice so far, but I'd really have to recommend "Medicine" and especially "Nod Scene". I only knew them for their two hits back in the late 90s, but then looking around on Wikipedia I kept seeing their names pop up next to Josh Homme so I figured I'd give them a shot.

The sound is amazing and there's pretty much no production on the album. Just guitars that sound like guitars. And Dave Wyndorf is an unbelievable singer - kind of a mixture of David Lee Roth, Trent Reznor, and Greg Dulli.

Did you see QOTSA did a gig in a salt mine in Germany? I believe they will release it on DVD.

Here is a nice link to a recent (Oct 2007)interview with HOMME---with some nice acoustic jams too.
