0 Subject: Heroes Season 2

Great One suggested starting a thread for Heroes, so here it is.

I watched the first episode of Season 2 and was a bit disappointed. I was expecting a different show than the first season, especially with the first season being the end of "Volume 1" and the teaser with Hiro in old Japan. I don't see any difference between volume 1 and volume 2 with almost all of the old characters back. I guess I don't understand what the "Volumes" are supposed to represent.

Little M - I believe the Volumes to be their break out of whatever central theme the heroes seem intertwined about. In Volume 1 it was "The Bomb". Volume 2 is titled "Generations", where we obviously are going to find out a lot more of the past of others with powers and how it all connects to the current group of heroes.

This season of Heroes is said to have two volumes, so we'll get half of the season centered on the "Generations" theme, and half the season will have a new theme.

Right now you have Bennet, Mohinder and Parkman focused on bringing down "The Company". We do have new characters being introduced (Maya, the "Midas" guy from the company) and you have Kaito Nakamura supposedly murdered by one of his old clan of heroes from years past.....with Angela Petrelli (whose power we have yet to find out) perhaps next on the list. Perhaps most importantly, they are hinting towards the introduction of a new, perhaps even more powerful villain than Sylar in the man that Molly is now seeing in her nightmares.

I think there is a lot on the horizon and like anything else we need to give it a little time for it to come out. I'm excited.

I don't see any difference between volume 1 and volume 2 with almost all of the old characters back.

the "old" characters are hardly back.

Nathan Petrelli has morphed from a powerful, rising, confident political star into a drunk.

Peter Petrelli has morphed from a man who dreams of being a hero, who then becomes one, and now, apparently, has no idea who he is.

Claire Bennett has morphed from a popular cheerleader scared of her abilities into a not-so-popular student confident of her abilities.

Mr. Bennett has morphed from a dedicated Company man into a man bent on bringing down the Company.

Ando can no longer be a sidekick. he is a man without a Hiro to be a sidekick to, and now must be his own (super?)man.

Parkman and his pregnant wife have gone their seperate ways, he's no longer bumbling his way through being a cop, and seems intent on helping to saving the world.

there has been significant change in the four months the show has been away, and that's just the tip of the ice berg.

That first episode was all setup. Hopefully it'll pay off.

I really like the new characters - the Puerto Rican chick from the Sopranos and Sark from Alias is pretty badass.

I liked how Nikki/Jessica wasn't in that first episode. Her character I always thought was a little lame.

I don't like Parkman either. Greg Grunberg has always come across as JJ Abrams' lapdog without much acting talent.

All in all, this episode sets things up pretty nicely.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode and can't wait for episode 2. I'm not sure so that the face the Molly sees is a 'new villian.' I was under the impression she is seeing Sylar still. Remember, he crawled away at the end of season 1.

As for Nathan Petrelli. Don't bet on him being a drunk. He's in hiding, plain and simple. He is working with Mohinder, Bennett and Parkman (at least I think so). My guess is he is their back up. But I'm willing to bet he is involved with their scheme.

Yeah, they generally set things up just like last night and then it all goes crazy in about 2 more episodes after the build.

The most common thing I heard last year was that most people were about to give up on it until Episode 4 (starts with Claire waking up on the autopsy table) hooked them in. I heard that from 2-3 different people.

So did ANYONE die in the last episode last year???

Oh well, I'm still watching. That brother/sister (Maya? Alejandro?) team that they introduced was some pretty bad acting it seemed, especially the brother. But thats pretty much my only complaint about the first episode, I'm expecting them to keep building up until something happens in season 2.

What was with Nathan's face? Maybe I saw it wrong, but was his face only f'd up in the mirror?

I wonder whats gonna happen with Claire's new stalker friend (staring at her through the window at the end, then flies away) I wonder if he's gonna be a bad guy or a Peter-type who can fly?

And I also think Molly's dreams have something to do with Sylar.

It sucks having to wait a week for each new episode!

I saw the Face in the mirror too, origionally I thought it was Peter's face looking back at him, but that was proven wrong at the end.

Until Peter was in the shipping container in Ireland, I thought maybe Nathan was Peter when I saw the reflection you're talking about. He looks like he was pretty badly burned in the sky-high meltdown.

If Peter is Peter and not Sylar. Hmmm...

Near the end of last year, Molly referred to the "bogey man" as the one person that she could not locate on a map. I took the nightmares and pictures to be related to the bogey man, not Sylar. I quess we will have to wait to find out.

She said she could find Sylar... but couldn't find one person because he was too powerful. So at least at that point it was considered to be two different people.

There is undoubtedly another villian that Molly is referring to. As Molly's power was returned by Mohinder's antibodies, she was questioned about her power.....they asked if she could find anyone.

She replied yes, except for one.

They asked why.

She said "Because when I think about him, he can see me"

Parkman asked if it was someone bad, like The Boogeyman.

She said no....it was someone "much worse".

I completely believe this other villain to be the person in her drawings and her nightmares.....but it remains to be seen.

Well I really hope we can watch Claire and that dude fly around more next week.

Seems like not much has changed from Volume 1:
Peter is looking for who he is.
Sylar is starting over.
HRG is with his family in suburbia.
Mohinder looking for more heroes.

Those new twins are still running. Absolutely worthless so far ala Nikki and Paulo from Lost.

I was just coming to this thread Rendle.....you beat me to it.

I admit I am pretty disappointed so far. But, we all also have to admit that what hooked us into the show in the first place - the idea of a nuclear bomb going off in New York - was a pretty focused event and a huge hook. Maybe without something along those lines the show is doomed to muddle --- I hope the show picks up quick because they need some bigger focal points to keep their momentum. I do NOT want this show to falter!

my gut feeling is that Alejandro is the guy with the eyes that Molly keeps seeing. to me, it makes perfect sense - his sister Maya has this ability to kill by apparently not doing much of anything, and the physical manifestation is the blackening of eyes, and black tears running down her face.

his ability? he is able to absorb her power, and seemingly bring back the dead in doing so. that's some strong mojo right there.

it wouldn't surprise me to see Maya vs. Alejandro becoming a focal point, and i have to admit, i like both characters. i'm not sure what all the hate is about.

They just need to get those 2 into the country to evolve their story.

The one intereting thing was the other guy in the Mexican prison was in there for stealing a black Nissan -- most likely Claire's car.

Nice one Rendle. I have those on the DVR so I'm going to check. I noticed it was the same model and thought it was odd.

Tree #17. I think you're way off on the Molly villain. I read somewhere - TV Guide preview? Entertainment Weekly? That the Maya/Alejandro characters are akin to the "Wonder Twins" - in a totally demented way - in that Maya (as you noted) has the ability to generate a deadly virus, and Alejandro is 'the cure' to her virus/has the power to reverse it's affects.

I believe Molly's visions center around whatever "Hero" amongst the Linderman/Deveaux/Petrelli/K. Nakamura grouping of heroes of the previous generation is hunting them all down. Whoever killed Hiro's Dad is the same one that will get Angela Petrelli. You might have noticed that in the preview of next week, Molly refers to "The Nightmare Man". In last week's episode, Angela Petrelli was "attacked" in the middle of the police station - being seen screaming - but by the time Parkman got in they could find nobody there. My guess is that "The Nightmare Man" has some ability to enter one's mind to cause damage/hallucinations or something, and attacked Angela Petrelli.

This new villain needs to get cranked up because we need a focused bad guy to root against. It's basic booking - you need a heel and a face! lol

BTW - why would "The Company" want Sylar alive? Would they really think they could "turn" him into working for them?? Why did they save him??

Because they can keep making new episodes as long as they have bad guys. Sylar is absolutely one of the best bad guys ever. That dude is creepy and evil.

LOL. That was funny.

Well as the story of the previous generation of Heroes is unfolding, and the conspiracies that were involved, things are getting better. Rendle had it right - that is Claire's car that Sylar now and Maya/Alejandro are driving.

I wonder what is inhibiting Sylar's powers....that should be interesting. If he gets them 'unblocked', does he get all of his previously absorbed powers, or will he have to go eat a bunch of new brains?

Obviously the big deal is Parkman's Dad as likely the person who is killing off the Linderman generation of heroes. When is A. Petrelli going to come clean and out all of those guys? What is HER power? Is she Hiro's mother?

Some storyline progression was good.

No Hiro or Peter was bad.

I don't know why they need all these new characters when the cast is already huge. Kristen Bell is joining the cast next week too.

With everything that's happened, hopefully the payoff will be worth it.

I liked last night's episode. Parkman's dad was really interesting and I look forward to seeing where this goes. It also appears that some of the plot lines are starting to converge, which will be nice. Right now, there are too many plot lines to fit in the show.

Agree completely Little M. Obviously it will be converging a lot on the whole "Linderman Generation" heroes, their fates and origins.

Obviously the most interesting thing about the Parkman's Dad meeting was the hint that Matt has the same powers of the mind as his Dad (paraphrasing) - "You can read minds? Oh it started like that for me too. In time you will do much more" - which leads towards a telepathic power trip that should be interesting. Obviously Matt eventually used his powers to "fight out" of the nightmare that his Dad put them in.

Were Bennet and The Haitian in Montreal at the end??? Rendle? With Peter and that hot Irish lass (hot accent) on their way, it made me think that when I saw Bennet/Haitian in a foreign country it could be another conversion there.

Who is Kristin Bell's Dad?

Nice episode last night. More and more things being put in motion, and more and more things coming together.....and again you have the vision of New York in shambles due to a worldwide virus as the focal point of this Chapter of Heroes.....along with Bennet finding the paintings giving him some kind of timeline he has to figure out.

I hope the Hiro/Kenzei storyline has a good payoff. I guess Hiro f'd things up and somehow it plays into this current timeline.

I don't know if you guys have been following this writers' strike but it really really sucks. Sounds like negotiations aren't going anywhere so this could last awhile. Here are some things notable to me:

- Heroes re-shot the ending to the last December episode so it will end Volume 2.
- Lost only has 8 episodes written.
- 24 is in worse shape with all the delays they have had. They might have to delay the whole season.
- Jericho's 7 episode scripts are in. I think it's the only show that will air everything as planned.
- Expect really crappy movies a year from now as writers have been rushing to get things in before the strike started.
- 2009 might be a light year for movies with no new scripts getting turned in from now until the strike ends.
- New programming will mostly consist of reality television as the creators aren't technically "writers."
- All late night shows are going right into reruns.

Really good episode this week. My one complaint is it felt drawn out the way Hiro found out about Adam. Maybe they were trying to make you think that it could be West, but that just didn't seem likely.

The HRG/Claire/Bob/Mohinder/Elle storyline was very good this week. It was kind of a copout not having HRG stay dead but he is a good character so it's not that big of a deal. The question is, who saved HRG at the end? Claire? Adam using his blood? Maybe Mohinder and HRG planned out it from the beginning?

It seems as though Mohinder's power is to always make the wrong decision.

Last Monday's episode was one of the best they've ever made IMO. Kinda lame that they showed HRG coming back so soon, but still good.

I just watched the previous two episodes. The one from two weeks ago cetainly answered a lot of questions. Personaly, I would have prefered to have information be disclosed throughout the series rather than in one episode, but I wonder if they thought they were losing viewers so they had to remove some of the mysteries to make things clearer, particularly for people who did not watch from the beginning.

I was thinking the same as J, in that I cannot see everything being wrapped up in the next two episodes. They seem to be downplaying the twins, Peter and the virus and focusing on Adam and the previous generation, so I think the Adam story line might end in Volume 2, but the virus line continue into Volume 3.

From heroesrevealed.com

As you may know, Heroes Season 2 is planned 22-23 episodes long, but the first 11 were labeled as Volume 2 - Generations. The 11th episode, which will be aired on December 3rd, was planned to be the last episode of Volume 2 and the introduction to the second half of the season: Volume 3.

Unfortunately, that 11th episode may become the Season 2 Finale, because of the writers' strike, again!

TvGuide's Michael Ausiello just reported, Writers' Strike Fallout: Heroes Prepping Season Finale :

Heroes' second season may be coming to a close a lot sooner than expected due to the forthcoming apocalypse, also known in some circles as the damn writers' strike.

Sources confirm that the show is going back and shooting an alternate ending to the Dec. 3 episode that, if used, would allow the episode to function as a season finale in the event of a strike. Originally, the episode was only supposed to serve as the conclusion of the current Generations arc. Should an 11th-hour agreement be reached and a strike averted (fingers crossed!), the alt ending would likely be scrapped.

So it looks like Dec. 3 has two possible endings depending on the writer strike.
