What movies that are already out and about do you really want to see, but haven't?
Here's my list:
The Great Escape Kelly's Hereos (The whole way through.) Superman III Cowboy Bebop Brian's Song Blues Brothers 2000 A John Wayne movie other than True Grit which I loved.
I'm sure that there's some missing and that's probably why I haven't seen them. I think "Oh I gotta see it.", then I forget about it. |

Watch Rooster Cogburn. I think it is one of John Wayne's last westerns. Katharine Hepburn is in it too. Good movie.
Lots of newer movies I want to see. Just bought King Arthur, so need to watch that. Troy, Collateral, and Hero are a few others I can think of.

John Wayne movie - The Searchers. Seen it a million times and still love it. Also, Green Berets.

This thread didn't take off like I thought it might. I enjoyed King Arthur, but wouldn't be surprised to read mixed reviews on it. I am in mad love with Keira Knightley. She can come over to my house and put on body paint any day of the week.
I bought Troy and Hero. Hero was a good movie and I imagine Troy will be as well.
Added another movie to my want-to-see list: Punch-Drunk Love. I think it's the only Adam Sandler movie I haven't seen. Anyone have any opinions on it before I go buy it?

I liked King Arthur too (Had to get it for namesake though). I think in parts it gets slow and your kind of wondering what the heck is going on. But in the end I think it's a good movie.

If you want to see a really great movie, that not too many people know about, rent Diggstown, an older (1990ish) Boxing Movie. Even if you aren't the biggest boxing fan (I am not a huge boxing fan) the movie is incredible.
One of my favourite movies...Diggstown.

For sure, barilko. I could have listed that movie in the other thread about movies you have watched over and over again. Very good story. James Woods does an awesome job and Louis Gossett Jr. did a pretty good job himself. Bruce Dern was a good "bad guy" and I loved one of the last scenes, "Can you help a brother out?"
Blue Hen, I thought Day After Tomorrow was a good flick. Visually stunning and some great special effects. The acting isn't so great and the plot has 8 million holes in it, but overall it was enjoyable.

TB, what did you think of Troy? I watched it with high expectations, and thought it was terrible...the story and acting were poor, IMO.
I really liked King Arthur, and thought it was a good spin on the (normally) fairy tale story. I watched the Director's Cut and thought it was better than the theatre version.

TB-
I didn't like Punch Drunk Love too much. I would rent it before you buy it unless you can find a really good deal. I usually like weirder movies, The Royal Tenenbaums and Duets are two of my favorites.

leggestand, I just watched Troy tonight and loved it. I had read that it was a loose adaptation of the Iliad, and that is putting it mildly. I didn't care for Orlando Bloom's performance, but did have some Legolas flashbacks when he was firing a bow. It didn't hurt that Boromir, I mean Sean Bean, was in the flick too. =)
Brad Pitt was a bad-ass. The early scene where he fights the big guy, left me saying "Damnnnn". That might have just been from seeing how big that dude was, though. The Hector/Achilles fight was awesome. I admit to some plot twists leaving me scratching my head, but overall I enjoyed this movie.
Thanks for the advice, Flying Polack. Maybe I will wait until I go visit my brother later this month and just rent it.

Finally got to see "Beyond the Sea" starring Kevin Spacey last night. I have to tell you guys that i really enjoyed it. Spacey did an amazing job of playing Bobby Darin. His vocals and the big band arrangements made for a great entertainment experience. 7.5 out of 10.

I also want to see Friday Night Lights but it's been out every time.
I'm tempted to rent the new Dawn of the Dead as well but haven't heard much good about it.
Cowboy Bebop is excellent! It takes place in the middle of the tv series which is well worth watching too.
King Arthur I thought was lame. I don't know where to begin so I'll just say Kiera Knightley is pretty.:) I will take Boorman's Excalibur anyday.

There are some really terrible movies out right now. Here is a short list.

And one not yet available on video: I Heart Huckabees

Unemployed: I love the new Dawn of the Dead movie. The DVD has a bunch of cool extras.
Don't expect a classic like Night of the Living Dead, but its fun to watch.
CanEHdian: I managed to pick up not only The Village, but Open Water as well. I wish I could return those to Best Buy right now. Whoa did those stink.
Open Water left me saying, "WTF just happened?" and then the movie ends.
The Village was M. Nights worst effort by far. I'm not looking forward to his next one because I think he'll try too hard to get good again and it'll stink.

"Napolean Dynamite" is one of the best movies going right now.

I really didn't think a whole lot of Coach Carter. It was nowhere as good as Hooisers. Same with Firday Night Lights. Not even close to Remember The Titans. I've think I've about had my fill of High School Sports movies.

Napolean Dynamite was a complete waste of time.
Rex-Kwan-Do was the only thing that keeps it above the Village on my worst-movies-of-all-time-list.

I rented Napolean Dynamite and watched it really late Friday night and was dozing off alot in the first 40 minutes or so. But, by the end of the movie...me and my roommate were laughing our asses off talking like him :)
Its definitely a movie you need to watch twice!
Next on my list to see: Harold and Fumar go to White Castle.

Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle is killingly funny.
I would not, however, recommend watching it while *ahem* sober...

J- Also watched ND recently and thought it was stupid as hell! A few funny quotes but other than that I thought it was awful. I may steer clear of Harold and Fumer go the White Castle as well! ;-)
Did you think it was funny when the dog talks to the bear in Anchorman?!?!? LOL

Cosmo,
I checked out Dawn of the Dead and it was fun. Some really grating characters but I guess that was the point. I still prefer the mood of the Romero one.
Harold and Kumar is pretty funny, but some of it is more clever than laugh out loud funny. Way better than Napoleon D though.
The movie I'm anxious to see is Sin City. Some of the trailer scenes are just perfect and right out of the comics. I really hope they don't screw it up.

Sin City should be really good. If they did Frank Miller's comic books any justice at all, it will be great.
I bought Saw. I did see it previously from a friends copy that he found lying in the street while it was in the theaters. The video quality on that was pretty rancid so I'm not even interested in those anymore.
Saw was really really good for the genre that it is in. I wouldn't insult Kevin Spacey or Anthony Hopkins by comparing it to Seven or Silence of the Lambs, but its a horror/thriller flick that is most worth watching.
I'm not surprised Cary Elwes wasn't nominated for an Oscar for this, but the acting is still good. Its the story and the "What ifs?" that run thru your mind that make this worth seeing.
Its much better...MUCH better, than the cookie cutter garbage that most horror studios throw at us every now and then.
If they can make 10 Jason movies, then I'm hoping they make a Saw 2.

I saw a commercial for The Ring 2 the other day. That should be decent. I also want to see Cursed. That is probably cookie cutter, but I like to see some nice gratuitous violence whipped up with mysticism on occasion.
Did you see Frailty, Cosmo? That was a good suspense/horror movie. It had a very good ending.

MC: I own Frailty and I really enjoy it. It is one of Matthew McConaughy's(cs) best movies, IMHO.
Call me crazy, but I'd say "A Time To Kill" would be his best, followed by this movie.
Bill Paxton was good in that as well. Too bad that movie didn't get a media push while in the theaters because I think it would've done rather well.
I agree, the ending was really good.

Shaun of the Dead much better than the new version of Dawn of the Dead. Much more to the point than blowing up zombies and moreso of what Romero intended.

Flying Polack, I took your advice and rented Punch Drunk Love. Man, that movie sucked. So glad I didn't buy it. Agonizing slow. Not quite as bad as Lost in Translation, but not much better either.
Friday Night Lights was a decent movie, but like Texas Flood said above (I think), not nearly as good as Remember the Titans.
I saw a couple more mentioned above:
The Manchurian Candidate- okay, but probably didn't need to be remade.
White Chicks- I love stupid comedies and it cracked me up.
Collateral- Good movie. Tom Cruise's character annoyed me with some mistakes I thought his "professional" character shouldn't have made. Jamie Foxx did a good job in this movie.
Harold and Kumar go to White Castle- laughed my butt off and watched it sober. I almost added it to the other thread about funny movies, but haven't watched it enough to see if passes the "still funny after watching 20 times" test.

I saw Kingdom of Heaven and liked it. In the grand scheme of epics it isn't a classic like Gladiator, Last of the Mohicans, Braveheart, or Saving Private Ryan, but it is probably in the 2nd tier. I do think it was exponentially better than Troy, though, and it had one of the best battle scenes I have ever seen in a movie.
The story line could of used some more depth and character build up, although I really enjoyed Jeremy Irons' character as well as the King of Jerusalem. Overall, I would recommend seeing the movie in the theatre just for the epic battle scenes, but Ridley Scott could have done a better job at the beginning of the movie.
