0 Subject: Surfing via Cell Phone

I've been discussing with Slizz some... with recent crackdowns on websites from work - by baseball season I am going to need a phone that will allow for add/drop or a lineup change etc.

I believe most typical cell phones don't allow for this, at least I am pretty sure my RAZR doesn't... what would be the most econimical way to do this? something like an iPhone or this new one that Verizon is offering (Voyager?).

I'd probably use it more for entertainment purposes (mp3 player seems like a reasonable add on) vs. business (a PDA type item).

Any reccomendations? thoughts?

*cough*

Who is your carrier? If you have Verizon and a RAZR, I recommend V CAST Vpak, which is $15 a month and includes unlimited internet and ESPN MVP.

If you're looking for a new phone, I'd definitely recommend the LG 8300. I have access to a lot of phones, including a Voyager, and the 8300 is the one I remain faithful to.

I also have good things to say about the LG 9900 (enV), if you're looking for a QWERTY keypad. Both the 8300 and 9900 are getting cheaper and cheaper as other phones come out.

As far as changing lineups, you can change your Yahoo lineup for tomorrow on just about any phone that's Web enabled. I think that works for every sport - definitely for baseball.

And only one more pimp for the WWL - you can go to http://espn.mobi on any web-enabled phone and get many features of ESPN.com.

unfortunately, not always. i got hit with something earlier this season in yahoo football that allowed me to drop a player, but not add someone in his spot.

i think it can be very quirky from phone to phone, carrier to carrier, browser to browser, and game portal to game portal.

Unfortunately I'm with Sprint/Nextel so those might not be options. Though I can make a move in a couple months.

Ouch, Tree. That must have sucked.

Great One, if you're going to make a move in a couple months, don't do ANYTHING now. Companies tend to lock you into contracts if you make even the slightest change. It actually happened when I changed my address once - they added a year to my contract.

But if you do have Mobile Web capabilities, you should be able to get to http://espn.mobi no matter what carrier you are on. That's a start, right?

Lol at Dave replying to this thread. When I met in NY he had like 4 different working phones on him. It was hilarious. His espn phone was pretty sweet.

I picked up the Iphone and I think it's the greatest thing ever.

BMD - and can you set a lineup or make a waiver claim on the iPhone on CBS or Yahoo etc?

Any hope this thing is coming down from 399 price tag by Feb?

Most things I see say $59.99 per month for unlimited data usage with AT&T. Just want to make sure that sounds about right and will include everything I would need. I don't want to be tacking on another 20 for Wi-Fi or Texting and this starts creeping up towards $100 per month.

GO, I just read a thing in the paper that had a comparison of the Iphone (ATT) and the LG (Verizon) and the Sprint phone. I read the Sprint phone was horrible. But I read the LG version of the IPhone (Voyager maybe?) has more and expandable memory was on a very fast network (ATT uses the old slow network for the IPhone) and listed several other features that was superior to the Iphone. It was also like $100 to $150 cheaper than the IPhone. I'm guessing the IPhone has features that are superior to the LG too--but this was the first I really heard about Iphone competitors.

Obviously I know nothing about setting lineups, etc. but that is a question to ask them. Maybe verizon wireless' web site has more info. Again, no idea if it is better or not, but it is cheaper and faster with more memory--so there's a start.

yeah, most of them say "internet connectivity for sports nuts to check fantasy stats" type of thing... but doesn't really specifiy how functional the click-throughs and "mouse" functions really are.

LG certainly under consideration. Especially if its cheaper up front AND cheaper each month.

I already have an iPod video, so I am not overly concerned with having all the iPod extras... although having everything synced up - (both Apple products) wouldn't be a bad thing.

My wife wanted a Palm last year, and I needed a new phone this year as well, and I signed us each up for the Sprint Employee Referral Offer. I didn't really have an employee refer me, but used the email address 'savings@sprintemi.com' at sprint.com/sero. The plans we got are pretty sweet - $30/month for 500 anytime minutes, unlimited nights starting at 7pm, unlimited text, and unlimited internet. Pretty deep discounts on the phones, too. I think I ended up getting paid for her phone after all the rebates - and the cheapest I had seen it elsewhere was $300+.

There was a huge thread at hotwallet.com that went into all the details on this. GO - I saw you are already with Sprint, and this isn't a problem. I had been with sprint, but out of contract, and didn't run into any problems creating a new account.
