That's what I bought a year ago (well 6800), and like it mucho. Of course, that was a year ago.

I've got a E6750, and its great. The 8800 GT is an amazing deal, got two of them myself the day they came out. Best bang for your buck easily, and easily upgradable to SLI in the future if you plan to do a decent amount of gaming.

Looks like you got a nice rig planned there. I'd add a good soundcard, and go for a nice 22" widescreen monitor. Also, if you haven't bought a case yet, I highly recommend the Antec P182. Dampens alot of the noise, and has excellent airflow. The 8800GT gets very hot...

How many fans should be used? I've heard some people are using the one just next to the Graphics Card.

I haven't researched this in a couple years so I'm sure technology has changed, but back then Athlon was much faster and cheaper than Intel. Still, I ended up getting Intel as it was in the machine that had everything else I wanted.

Yeah - when I started shopping, I assumed Athlon was still tops. I was wrong. The core-2 duo is a sweet chip, and beat the comparably priced athlon. At least a year ago it did.

Where do you buy your parts and know that everything will work together?

I bought mine through Directron, and had them build it and test it for me. It cost a bit more than a stock machine from Dell, however.

Core 2 Duos are beasts. That chip you are looking at outperforms every Athlon chip on the market.

Tom's Hardware provides great insight into CPU and GPU performance

The case I got (The P182) comes with 3 case fans, which are inaudible on low. Low is all I need, and I bought one and installed it beside both my cards. Makes about a 5 degree difference.

I bought all my stuff at NCIX.com. As far as compatitibility, I doubt there are many issues. Make sure your mobo has 2 pci-e ports, so you can go to SLi later if you want. I went with an eVGA board for about 200$ Cdn. Hard drive, I went for the 500gig Western Digital because it earned the best quiet rating over at Silentpc.com.

Yes, Intel's C2D's have dominated the chip market for over a year, and continue to do so. AMD is in trouble if they don't come out with something good soon...
