0 Subject: Texas Hold 'Em Discussion Restarted

Posted by: THK @ Family
- [311472621] Tue, Dec 28, 2004, 22:03

Ok guys we need to get this talk restarted.

Louky and I were talking about getting a Gurupie private tournament on Poker Stars together maybe once a month. $10, 20, 50 entry fee? Whatever everyone feels comfortable with...

Louky told me he finished #2 (in a $10 tourney) which cashed out ~$1,200

I finished #6 in a $10 tourney a few days ago with cashed $440 (currently with 230 after cashing out)

Before the Gurupie thoughts are put together...I found a cool private tournament called the Malamoney Open. 11:55 EST Sun-Thursday. David Dodds from Footballguys plays there and maybe more (only played 2 times)? This guy has a site and stuff to check out...it is pretty cool if any of you want to join me!

One of these days I will have to put some money in PokerStars and Party. I would definitely be interested in playing in a tourney like this...

Chicago, I've been playing Stars over Party now, more tourney friendly IMO, Stars also "comps" you sorta. They have points based on freq/amount of play. Used the points for a seat at a WPT quailifer, nice perk. Odds weren't bad either 4 seats out of 220ish entries.

The only down side to Stars is the THK knows my screen name and is always iritating the other players at my table during tourneys.

ROFL louky!

After a tumultuous time with a new job and kids stuff, I'm back on my poker habit. Haven't played online in forever....will have to get a new account opened.

I got my first straight flush in a live game last Saturday. Had J 10 clubs and flop comes K 9 of clubs plus a blank. I hit my flush on the turn and raise, figuring my gutshot straight flush draw was enough of a longshot. Thankfully the guy I'm playing with had 2 pair and was fishing for his boat. Sure enough, Q clubs comes on the river.....good enough for a $200 bonus for the high hand of the night (given away 3 times daily at my local casino). If only the guy I was playing had the ace of clubs!!!!

I'm sure it was covered in many previous threads, but of the major poker sites, who likes which on the best and who is having the best sign up bonuses? If I get ready to do it, I'd be happy to mention someone for the referral.

.....and I should be going to my local casino tonight. Happy New Year!

PS - I am considering making travel plans at some point during the WSOP, which runs 6/2 through 7/15 just to take it all in and watch mostly. A quickie Friday to Sunday gig.....should be a blast.

Tried:

PokerStars
PartyPoker
UltimateBet

I play at PokerStars now...so needless to say I love their site, layout, etc...

Normally they have solid sign up bonuses for a new account (15%-25%), but they just gave away TONS of cash at the end of the year... So now I am no clue right now...

Anyway...hoping we can get a tourney going!

Time to put your money where your mouth is. A hobby shop in Collegeville, Pa (near King of Prussia/Exton ..NW of Philadelphia) is hosting a Texas Hold 'Em tourney. I know there are a number of Gurupies from the NJ/Del/Eastern Pa region and I believe a # of you have been posting off and on in the hold 'em threads.
If you are interested, email me and I will get you directions.

It starts at 8pm. I believe its a $10 buy in (I will double check this) and 1st place gets 40% of the pot. They are expecting 40 people or so.

Not exactly Texas Holdem, but I did get my 1st win on Poker Stars tonight. Seven stud fixed limit of all things. Wanted to play in a tourney, and the only holdem was $50.00 NL, so signed up for the stud instead, entry was only $20.00, so I thought I would try it.

Only 86 players, so the payout only went to the final table (last 8). After a slow start hit the 1st break in 6th, with 60 or so left. Was the chip leader for most of the 2nd hour, then faded to 3rd right before the break. When we got to 10 players things really got tight, except for me. Went from 2nd to 9th and thought what a waste, all this time to blow out 1 or 2 spots short. Caught some lucky cards made cut, and won it after a nice 3 man duel that lasted about 30-45 mins. Not a big one, but the payout was a little over $500.00, and that very cool for only my 2nd stud tourney... may have to try another.

OK... I must have misplayed this hand. I want to learn from you guys what you may have done differently.

In hindsight, the table talk was right, but I didn't trust her...

I really want to trust slow-playing, but it seems everytime I do it in a major pot, I get rivered. No joke, it happened on 5 major slow-plays today. Anyway, the hand before I had just come off of an all-in I won w/ AK, and had been playing tight.

Any thoughts?

#22...I raise the flop bet from $5 to $10 and hope she reraises...if she just calls you still have $25 in the pot. On the turn I raise the pot at least ~$30 (pot size bet). The river...I hope I would have folded in your situation where there really is not much money in the pot, if you had played it more aggressively from the start and the pot is ~$90 then I might have to call anything and the end results are the same. I may have called on the river just like you...the crying call...you know you are beat but have too big a hand to throw away.

I hate slow playing unless it is against the right opponent that I know will make a play at the pot or I have a monster hand that I know cannot be beat. I rarely slow play if I put someone on a draw. In your example from above I generally will bet enought to get a call on the flop but will really raise the turn or even go all-in...would rather pick up the pot there or at least give the person terrible odds to draw on me. Sometimes you have to slow play because you know noone else can have much of a hand because you have all of the cards that can make a hand. So many people slow play there big hands that I think a lot of times playing a big hand aggressively is not expected and can pay off. Depends on your table image and the aggression of the table.

Got my first royal flush today using both pockets... =) (have had two previous using one card)

1-2 NL 10-handed...

Dealt Q-10s...limp in...someone raises $4...3 people call...

Flop: Ks - Js - 4h ...player $6 raise...I call...everyone else folds.

Turn: As ...player $12 raise...I call...got my royal...now just hoping he has a hand to go to war with. I don't want to bet it too hard cause I will also qualify for the high hand of the day jackpot.

River: Kc ...player $40 raise...I reraise to $80...he is all-in for ~$50 more...I call and show the Royal...he had AK for a fullhouse Ks and aces. Too bad he didn't have pocket Kings...would have been a bad beat jackpot...in some B&M casinos that would have qualified as a bad beat jpot.

I was curious of your spreadsheet actually. What things do you chart, etc?

After getting back on PokerStars I have begun a small mock form of this for curiosity purposes:

7:32, $5.50 SNG
1 hour and 2 minutes
1st place - $22.50
$16.46/hr
---
8:47, .5/1 ($87)
33% flops
3 of 3 at showdown
4 pots w/o showdown
54 minutes ($110)
$25.56/hr

I forgot to write down the stats for my SNG...
