0 Subject: TILT - ESPN Series

Anyone get a chance to watch "Tilt" the new series on ESPN? Kind of like Playmakers but centered around poker/vegas.

Personally I thought it was horrible. Trying to take Poker back to the dark ages and make it seem like the entire game is full of low lifes and cheats...

I mean come on, seriously, I think we all can relate to winning a $12,000 pot when were 12 (well I was 11, it was two days before
my 12th bday, but close enough).

And is it just me? or like totally every black guy I play with whips out a gun and calls someone a "bitch" when they string bet; I mean I'm surprised they even showed that scene cause it's like an everyday thing for me.

And the scene with the black guy catching the full boat on the river was ingenious. I mean I ALWAYS have to talk sooo much smack and use hardcore manipulation to get the guy with the nut flush to go all-in; especially when he's short stacked near the end of a satellite tourney
with increasing blinds and little hope of catching a better hand to risk all his chips on.. yep, wow, totally incredible, I can definately relate to that.

And the story line... gosh... the president of a casino risking his million dollar salary, luxurious livliehood, and blow jobs from hookers
every time he goes to the bathroom for a mere $8,000. That makes the most perfect rational sense of anything I've ever heard in my entire life.

ESPN you really are the next HBO for orignal series programming...

Ha Ha, I was going to watch this first episode but I watched something else instead. Guess I'll just pass on the whole thing.

Yea, ESPN is creating some real garbage.

Chicago, can you tell us how you really felt about the show? :)

For some reason I can't get this line out of my head:

"He's know as the matador, for his ability to lure the young bulls into the ring and then cut them down."

I just think that every time I hear that, the show seems a little more retarded than it did 5 seconds ago. I mean, is he really luring young bulls into the ring, or do they want a piece of him because of his reputation? Either way, it sounds like melodrama to me.

Was really, really, really bad as Chicago said.
Can't believe I watched the whole thing.

Don't believe I will watch any more episodes.
And the shame is that I was really looking forward to it.

....and don't forget that the Casino Boss puts the playing field together to give Everest the chance to cheat in the first place.

......add that to the fact that the 4 "good guys" have ALL been cheated by Everest in their lives....including the blonde at 12, Eddie and the guy in the eggplant sweatsuit.

Yeah, thought that was pretty bad.

Favorite line though:

"8 grand? When I run out of toilet paper, I wipe my ass with EIGHT grand.....NINE if it's really messy"

For all the hype I am completely disappointed. I will watch the next episode to see if it gets any better, because I like the concept of a show about poker. The thing is...Rounders is a few years old and there are some cheats. Maybe these writers are stuck in those times...because poker is more of a mainstream game and they need to depict it that way in my opinion. Oh well...

Worst acting ever! This show is a total flop. It's actually funny to laugh at how bad the acting is.

I liked some of the "poker lessons" they implicitly gave -- such as the guy who believes the other guy is bluffing on the river so he decides to raise him. Anyone who wants to imitate Tilt and raise me on the river when they think I am bluffing, I'll gladly play with over and over (folding when I really was bluffing, reraising when I have the goods :) ).

I can't wait for my next home game, because I'm going to play uber-aggressive the first time I pick up 6s4s. I'm showing it down no matter what (we play $0.10/$0.20 so this shouldn't cripple my bankroll). It will be pure joy when I exclaim "I've got the Matador!" It will be a high like no other if my hand actually holds up.

I'll definitely watch again, but because it is hilarious how bad and corny it is. If I got it right, the 6s4s vs 22 hand had blinds of $50 and $100. The matador raised to $4000 UTG (a gross overbet) -- oh yeah, it's very believable that he's an unbeatable poker champ. I also like how the players spend their time in a hand thinking of witty things to say instead of concentrating on how to play their cards -- again, very realistic.

You can watch the first 3 episodes of TILT tonight on ESPN if you missed any of them.

I might do it. I was kind of getting into it the last episode.

Yo, MadDOG,
I'm with you. Even though Tilt isn't likely the best acted out series, it's still entertaining. I'm enjoying how the plotline is being carried out... Can't wait to see how the big game goes through, next week! Predictions? I bet the girl chokes on her hatred and she loses her chunk of the dough, making it be the 3 men left. Then, the main character(oooh, I've forgotten their names already) has a decision to make, whether to help the other dood take Matador's money in one big hand, or to prolong the big attack until all 3 can get in the same game again. He picks Matador's side, pisses off his 2 teammates, but gets all 500k back in the winnings so that they can try again another day when they are more intune and have double or triple the money.

What do you think, MadDOG?

Last night's season ending episode was pretty good. Looks like Matador threw the World Series of Poker and placed a huge side bet on the other guy, Billy Towne, to win.

Matador facing murder charges and Billy Towne heading for poker tournament in Europe after dropping off 2 huge suitcases full of money for his 2 friends the black guy and the blonde. He must have placed a huge bet on himself otherwise I'm not sure where he got the money. Unless he just gave them part of his winnings from the World Series.

I'm gonna watch again next year.

First off...it's Eddie Towne. Also, winning the WSOP is $5 million, so it was a decent payday for the money. I don't think the Matador necessarily threw the WSOP...but it is a decent subplot that maybe they will play into next year. That's if there is a next year...

He threw it, no doubt. His daughter wasn't placing bets with her money. I don't think that there will be a next year with this series. What was that football series that ESPN had that only lasted one season?

Playmakers was because the NFL wouldn't agree to it, and since they are a big part of ESPN they wouldn't have said, "Oh sure lets go against the NFL."

I don't think Playmakers got the ratings that this Tilt is getting.

If Poker continues to be the rage that it is now, I think this series will be back.

He definitely threw the WSOP. When he was shaking Eddie Towne's hand after he had lost he looked to his left and his daughter gave him the thumbs up sign.

I didn't see that as him throwing the tourney, more a case of hedging his bet. Of course I didn't see the whole finale, so I may have missed something.

I think the goal is to bring it back, the certainly left the door open with some story lines to kick off the new season.

For an ESPN production I give it a C+/B-, probably saw 75% of it. Thursday's were slow enough hoops wise that I could fit it in.

Finally saw the last episode...

I don't think he threw the tourney at all, like louky said, he just hedged his bets. He laid down 1.25 mil on Towne (probably with odds), knowing he was going to win more than that at 2nd and get $$$ for Towne winning...or, he will still win 4+ mil by winning the bracelet and enough clean $$$ to buy into the Colorado.

I kinda missed it though...where is Towne going in Europe? Wouldn't be the same without him next season...he is the narator and the main character pretty much....

It's like when the Brady Bunch went to Hawaii or when the Jetsons went to Bedrock. TILT in Europe.
