This can go under entertainment...

Yesterday at work had many moments where people would ask "No way that didn't happen did it." The last was one of the most screwed up.

To Preface i'm a Grocery Manager and was the one in charge in the morning. About 11:30 I walked out of the office and saw and older man drive by on one of the stores Mart Carts (For Elderly/Fat people) and drive right out the door. So I asked the Cashier on Reg #2 if he went through his line. He said no, and so did the other open register. So me and #2 went outside to ask for the guys reciept, but I got stopped right before going out and asked a question. Then #2 waived me over through the window. Once I got to the car the guy had closed his truck with our stuff in it and was putting some more in his back seat. I proceeded to ask for his receipt and he kept saying his wife had it, so I told him that he needed to take it out of his car until he showed me the reciept. He didn't make any kind of motions except to look at us and again say she had it, (we were behind his car). He then opened his front door threw in his cane and got behind the wheel, I turned to #2 and told him to call the cops and when I turned back towards the car it was on and he hit the gas soft and bumped into me, which then became him slamming on the gas, sending me up onto his trunk where I proceeded to hug both sides to stay on instead of falling under a tire. The whole time it was happening #2 was on with 911 telling them everything with two other employees watching. He then slammed on his breaks sending me flying off upright slamming down on my feet, so my back has been all tight since then. The cops got him, and now he was being charged with Robbery and Assault instead of just Shoplifting. Makes sense doesn't it? He had six bags of Charcoal, five mothers day cards, some chicken and some hogs feet. Epic Fail. You try to kill someone for that? Seriously?

Now to find out later today what kind of crap my company will give me for going "Outside the doors" because of preventing accidents like this from happening. In my view we're told not to chase Shoplifters outside the store, but this guy drove right out and I didn't know if he did or didn't have one, but I was going to go find out. I know they won't see it that way though. Also this was a brand new Mart Cart because two weeks ago someone stole one and drove it a half mile away into a lake. SERIOUSLY!?

And just found this online too...

seems to me you need to get yourself a lawyer, and sue the guy.

Yeah! I'm sure he's loaded. Stealing charcoal was just for fun.

Maybe just find out if he has insurance, though I doubt that insurance would cover hit and run.

i'm not a big fan of frivolous lawsuits, but in this case, it seems warranted.

as for why he was stealing, who knows. it's not Winona Ryder needed to steal.

It wouldn't be frivolous. He ran over our man Punk after all.

I just think it would be very likely be fruitless for everyone except the attorneys.

Yeah personally i'm not going to do anything with it because of that reason Bili.

Got a call today that he pled guilty to Assault, Shoplifting and driving on a susp license.

I know it wasn't funny at the time, but reading your account made me think of those TJ Hooker skits they did on SNL, where he would keep jumping on the hood of cars.

I found a video here for the curious - microscopic snl skit

Retail Rule #1 - NEVER, EVER, EVER go after a shoplifter.

I'm just glad the guy didn't have a gun inside the car.

I didn't go after one, I went to see if he had a reciept after trucking out the door with my cart and my product. And then come to find out he was inside the store 15 mins earlier, loaded up, drove out the store, then came back in and that's when I saw him leave.
