Oh, that's freaky. I was reading a George Carlin skit on aging, click back here, and Moose posts this. Wow.

If there isn't a heaven where Carlin can do stand-up for God then it's a damn shame. He was definitely one of a kind.

well, as the article said, Carlin told Playboy in 2005 that he looked forward to an afterlife where he could watch the decline of civilization on a "heavenly CNN."

if that's what he's looking forward to watching, then he picked an excellent time to go.

godspeed mr. carlin.

Yeah, I remember listening to some of his 1970s albums over and over as a budding teen. So funny. He was so clever with all of his ironic observations and linguistic put-on's. I read the whole NY Times obit...makes me sad.

Oh wow, I had not heard this yet. Seems to me that so many have
gone so quickly recently. George provided many hours of
entertainment for me and my friends during our childhood/young
adult years.

Funny I've had the news on most of the morning and still not even
a mention.

Like walk, I'll never forget as a 12-ish year old finding my older brother's Carlin album and hearing the infamous "Seven Words You Can't Say on Television" and roaring with laughter/feeling guilty about sneaking and listening to it. I also remember a skit about farts that had me in stiches.

Carlin was good not because he cussed......Carlin was good because he didn't need to cuss to be funny.....the cussing just seemed to amplify the humor.

Ones that still make my chuckle:

If the #2 pencil is the most popular, why is it still #2?

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.

Religion convinced the world that there's an invisible man in the sky who watches everything you do. And there's 10 things he doesn't want you to do or else you'll go to a burning place with a lake of fire until the end of eternity. But he loves you! ...And he needs money! He's all powerful, but he can't handle money!

Why are hemorrhoids called "hemorrhoids" instead of "assteroids"?

Isn't it a bit unnerving that doctors call what they do "practice"?

Whose cruel idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have a "S" in it?

I have as much authority as the Pope, I just don't have as many people who believe it.

My father used to wake me up on school nights to watch his routines on Johnny Carson.

George Carlin is hands down my favorite comedian of all time. I can rewatch his performances again and again and still laugh as I did the first time. Some great quotes from him above. The flamethrower one I had as my sig for a very long time on another forum. Still makes me chuckle when I hear it in my head as him saying it.

I remember watching a skit and he was telling the news and said, "A man attempting to walk around the world today, DROWNED," gave the camera one of his funny looks, and went to the next piece of "news". It still makes me chuckle when I think about it today and that had to be 20+ years ago.

RIP
