Any of you drummers have an electronic drumset? I live in a condo so I can't exactly bring my regular set with me. What kinds do you have and are you happy with them? I was looking to buy a more moderately priced one, it seems like there are a few options between $500 and $700 at Guitar Center and Sam Ash. I should have gotten one the second I moved away to college, what a waste of eight years.

did you buy anything yet? if not, then check harmony central for user reviews first. I don't know how many times those reviews have saved me from buying the wrong gear.

check ebay for the best price (unless you are totally against buying used gear). I've never priced electronic drum sets but I get outrageous deals on other gear there (you just gotta be patient and watch em).

I played in a band with drummer who used acoustic drums (with the heads deadened) with triggers on em running to a rack unit. It was a pain to set up but the sound coming out of the P.A. was more reliable than a mic'd set. he used a subwoofer btw. I can't vouch for what a sampled bass drum sounds like without a subwoofer.

I also have a friend who has a full electronic set like you described for use at home or at friends' houses. it's well worth the money. very practical. a regular drum set is usually better of course but electronic drums are a good option. in an apartment you have no choice. one big advantage to an electronic set is that you have access to so many different sounds. you could spend hours just messing around with all the different sounds...
