THere was a thread started in general fantasy during opening ceremony, but this is probably a more appropriate place for it.
In the swimming relay, the World Record was even bested by the 5th place team! Two teams beat the former world record and don'te ven medal..INCREDIBLE! The comeback was one for the ages. Beat the WR by 4 seconds.

Lezak's finish was the most amazing swimming I've ever seen. Absolutely phenomenal!
I must have watched 10 hours of Olympics yesterday, serious overload.

Can anyone figure out if this swimming relay will be replayed tonight in its entirety?

RE 1: I think Phelps and Lezak just moved up my draft board.
That 4x100 was an incredible finish. I was standing by the time he touched, and I only get that excited for football games, and maybe the occasional baseball game. I was very ho-hum about the Olympics, but that race gave me the fever for it. Bring on the rowing, the weight lifting, the field hockey! I want it all!
The US women's gymnastics team was a little disappointing last night. On the floor routine 2 girls stepped completely out of bounds and too deductions and on the uneven bars 1 girl fell off and another messed up what would have been a perfect routine with an over rotation on the dismount. They still managed to finish second in qualifying, so that's pretty good. The interview with Bela Karolyi afterwards was very interesting. He was saying how the new scoring system leads to more confusion for the judges, and can lead to a higher case of favoritism, or anti-Americanism.

My coworker was watching the Olympics with his son. He is 12 years old and I guess he paid A LOT of attention to the US women's beach volleyball game. Either later on in the day or the next morning at breakfast the boy says to his dad right in front of his mom and sisters, "When I grow up I want to coach women's volleyball. The girls are hot."
Classic.

I've actually coached volleyball. Some of those women are freaks.

My office was in the gym where the Illinois women's volleyball team played. Those were some proud women. Usually 6 foot+ women try to look smaller than they are. Not these women.
Freaks how, PD? Rick James' meaning, or more like they have 3 eyes and prehensile tail?

Heh. Somebody has to breed them future auto workers.
Actually, I didn't start playing or coaching volleyball until I moved to New York. I'm sure there is some kind of political analogy involving large, manish, New York Jewish women but I'm not going to follow up on it right now.

I think the coverage of the Olympics has been pretty good...NBC has enough channels/options that they are choosing to cover a lot of the events fully and you can see more than just the Americans in each event. The past couple olympics I always hated watching as you would only see US athletes and then sometimes just highlights with the remainder of the time filled with fluff human interest crap and interviews. You still basically get that on NBC during primetime but then at least you can flip over to MSNBC or Oxygen or CNBC to see actual sporting events.

The one interview I do like is Bella Karolyi, the man has no filter...fun to see Costas squirm when they are talking in studio.

Baseball impact - Seattle's Chinese catcher prospect got run over at a play at the plate and injured a knee. LaPorta got beaned in the head in retaliation, and is concussed.

Can we just do away with boxing as a sport? Again tons of controversy in the decisions...people fired...conspiracy to fix results...some fights that seemed obviously fixed. I guess nothing new for boxing.

Incompetance...bad system...it should just go if it can't get a major overhaul.
Btw, did anyone see that judo player who didn't like getting DQued and kicked teh ref in the head? Then other officials came onto the mat and he started shoving them? Ugh.

I have been trying to find where I could buy Olympic gear, specifically the Chinese table tennis uniform or the Chinese men's gymnast warm up jackets. They were made by Mizuno and Adidas but neither company is selling them on their websites. That is bizarre to me, these jerseys are so cool, I want one and I doubt I'm alone.
