Down to the wire again, and I'm still unsure what to get my wife. I think she would really use a BlackBerry, however. Does anyone here have one and have an opinion on the new ones?
She would use it as a phone, for remote internet use, and so forth (that is, not for work).
Help would be appreciated. |

DO NOT GET A BLACKBERRY STORM.
That's the most important thing I'll say. I have a bunch of friends who really enjoy their Blackberry Bolds, so that might be a good way to go. The Curve is probably the second choice. Personally, I have an 8700 and am fine with it.
Honestly, an iPhone is not a bad choice here, although the phone part of it sucks a bit.

The IPhone is strictly AT&T, is that right? That wouldn't be too bad (we have AT&T now), but it would be good to know.
What, in particular, is wrong with the Storm?

This is the light fare: Wired says it sucks
... and there's even a web site

Yes, the iPhone is exclusive with AT&T.

I have a BlackBerry for work. I can't recall the model name, but it's newer (within the past 6-8 months) and has a ton of cool things. I think it has GPS.
I can't stand it to be honest with you. Just something about the interface and how it is setup that I can't stand and I'm not afraid of tech by any stretch.
It's also highly habit forming and I forced myself at one point to leave it at the office for days to break the habit of checking emails at home constantly.
I have friends who have iPhones and I want one. If I didn't have Verizon I'd have one by now for sure. You can do so many cool things with it other than as a telephone that it's ridiculous.
Go for the iPhone.

Loving the G1 Google phone per the other thread... and the white one is now available even made my first big phone move last night checking Rotoworld and then getting Dominic Rhodes in the starting lineup during my Xmas party! Its got real internet, touch screen, cool apps like the bar code scanner for price comparing -- and the same apps as iPhone (can tell you what song is on the radio etc).

My Verizon 8300 can tell you what the song is. That's nothing new except for a commercial.
J, you of all people NEED an iPhone. Seriously. It's borderline ridiculous that a huge sports fan with no internet at work hasn't found a mobile way to get his sports.
The voice service is not as good as Verizon - you'll have fewer bars when you need them. But the internet is much better.

Isn't the voice service different based on where you are? AT&T is probably the best network for ATL

My understanding is that you should threaten to cancel your service with them altogether and they will eventually give you the new service discount.

Since my contract has another year on it, why wouldn't they just say, ok, you owe us $720 (or whatever) for the 12 months remaining on your contract, how will you be paying for that today?

You should have a fee in the contract for breaking the contract. Probably $150-250. In theory they would rather have the $60 per month for perpetuity than the $200 today.
