Most people that know his name may only know the guitar that was named after him. He was a musician and inventor. A pioneer in so many areas; electric guitar design, multi-track recording, guitar playing techniques, tape echo, etc. etc...

A great great guitarist and songwriter. His influence on the history of music is immense. I'd guess the first thing he heard in heaven was Gabriel telling him "You're on in 5 minutes!".

He was still playing regularly in Manhattan as recently as 2 or 3 years ago. Sad day.

indeed. Considering his age, his passing is not overly shocking, but it's a great loss for nearly any person who enjoys nearly any sort of contemporary music.

Without him, we'd have no Hendrix, Page, Stevie Ray, or any of the people we consider to be guitar gods.

" target="_blank">Les Paul playing Somewhere Over The Rainbow on his 93rd birthday... June 9, 2008... live at the Iridium in NYC... second set.

I hope I can put my shoes on when I'm 93.
