So, I haven't played online poker for real money in several years. Curious, is it available now? |

Yes, though getting money online is more difficult than it used to be, if you need to do that.

Receiving the money? or setting up an account? Or both?
Reason I ask, Pokerstars sent some sort of email making it sounded like they were doing real money tables for US players now.
I know the committee passed H.R. 2267, but that was in July. Wasnt' sure if there had been any further steps on regulating it in US.

Not really.
If you're in Washington state, they passed a statewide ban. Other than that, no, things are pretty much business as usual.

Still a pain to move money back and forth but about the same as always.
Games are multitudes tougher than they were a few years ago. Rush poker on Full Tilt is pretty addicting...like poker on crack. Whoever came up with this concept was a genius.

I thought they were passing laws to make this legal again. So they can tax it of course. But I think thats good for everyone involved.
I am moving to Delaware, and I've heard a rumor there is sports betting there, so hoping that is the case.

Only NFL Sports Betting, and only in Parlays. Not sure if they are still going to the Supreme Court to try and get full Sports Betting anymore or not.

I thought it was legal. The US doesnt have jusrisdiction over offshore companies. The law that was passed made it illegal for US banks and credit card companies to FUND offshore gambling sites. At least that was my understanding.

As someone that has played for a living for the past 5 1/2 years, it'll be interesting how everything plays out. There are still sites out there that accept US players(Merge network, Bodog, Cake). Pretty sure the DoJ would've brought them down if they could've. Since they didn't I think they are safe for awhile.
I'd be shocked if a online poker law wasn't passed and regulated in the next 2 years. There's just way too much money out there and almost no opposition from the general public(minus the very far religious right).
TRS, I want to thank you. Pretty sure you started a thread on here ~7 years ago that got me itching to play online poker. Without that thread who knows if I would've ever went down this career path. It's taken me to a lot of cool places, Vegas, Europe, and Australia. Without poker I doubt I would've ever met and married my wife. That thread kinda changed my life I guess. Thanks buddy.

bmd...that is awesome...you are welcome. Poker definitely had a positive impact on my life too. Hate to see it disappearing but I agree this probably opens the door to the established casino companies to lobby the government and take over the business which may be better for all of us in the long run.
In the end a regulated online gambling industry is perfect for the government since it is so easy to track every cent bet/lost since everything is recorded and just data. They could collect a ton of tax revenue. I think most players would welcome their poker site sending them a W2 at the end of the year.

I've been waiting for regulation to come for years now, both in the US and Canada. Its just never a hot-button issue, and there are always more important things for politicians to use their political leverage on, so it gets relegated over and over again...

But ditto #15 as well. :) I've had a blast working from home, on my own schedule for the last 6ish years. The writing definitely seems like its on the wall for me though. Games are harder then ever before, regulation still seems like something in the distant future and I'm getting a bit bored of it to boot.
I started playing alot less in Febuary, and I missed it alot less then I thought I would. I've been transitioning from being a daily cashgame player to a mostly MTT guy and I admit I don't miss the daily grind one bit. ;)

http://chicagobreakingbusiness.com/2011/04/online-poker-players-to-be-reunited-with-cash.html
Well supposedly the DOJ has given the poker sites the go ahead to reunite US players with their cash and make it available for withdrawal. Not sure how it will work as the entire reason the sites were shutdown was to prevent movement of money. Anyone have any idea what cashout options are available or if PS or FT have the withdrawal option available?

I've got a pending cashout (via paper check) from Stars; I'll try to remember to post an update as we go along. Had to email security, they said no withdrawls, but that was before this happened this morning.

Kind of what I figured...
"In addition, the agreement represents an important first step towards returning funds to U.S. players because it allows Full Tilt Poker to utilize its domain to facilitate the withdrawal of player funds. But, unfortunately, there remain significant practical and legal impediments to returning funds to players in the immediate future. As a result of the recent enforcement action, there exists no authorized U.S. payment channel through which to make refunds; Full Tilt Poker has no accounting of the millions of dollars of player funds that were seized by the government; and the government has not agreed to permit any of the seized player funds to be returned to the players.”

In the past week, they moved my bodog.com account to bodog.eu and my sportsbook.com account was moved to sportsbook.com.au. I don't play poker, but both sites have it. Probably to help avoid the vultures in the U.S. government.

Anyone check into the World Series of Poker broadcast on espn2? It's live this year (30 min delay) but you can't see the hole cards during the hand and there's a lot of downtime because there is almost no editing. Also not the familiar commentators. I don't like it at all.

I watched it live on ESPN2 the other night. Found it a little dull but mildly interesting.
My favorite part was that the players didn't look like human billboards. With all the websites done I no longer have to look at guy shilling every website under the sun.

Agreed. And Phil Helmuth as commentator did not come across as such a douchbag, he was quite good.

The coverage is awesome. Beats the hell out of Espns regular coverage. Announcers are also way better too. Phil is kinda annoying but at least he dissects hands even if he not always right about them. Antonio is solid too. Oliver is fantastic.

I've always been happy with bodog. Poker and sports at the ready.
I believe they give you a 10% bonus for your initial deposit when you sign up, which is obviously a good start.
If you have any questions let me know. And if you want to use my referral # let me know.

Full Tilt Ponzi Poker
It seems our money at FT wasnt as "secure" as we thought. But authorities say that, as of March, the company had only $60 million left in its bank accounts to cover the $390 million it owed to players.

First reading the allegations I figured it was government spin to pacify players who were blaming the gov for holding their money.
After doing a lot of reading/research last night and reading a good portion of the charges/complaint. All I can say is "wow"...greedy scam artists. Having the 2nd biggest poker site was not enough...they were using player funds as their own personal ATM. Very good chance Lederer, Ferguson, Ivey, Gordon, etc...are all going to face significant prison sentences. When the feds bring these sort of charges they simply do not lose.
Chances of players recovering more than a few cents on the dollar are slim.
There is even some thought the government could go after any players who won and withdrew money. Just like the Madoff ponzi they go after individual investors who profited to try and repay all of those who lost money. Seems doubtful...but it is possible.

I am 100% amazed that it looks like ex Full Tilters will be made whole. Looking more and more likely this is another step of bringing legal regulated online poker to the US. Next announcement will be Poker Stars and Harrahs teaming up. When/if online poker does become legal Poker Stars will definitely have my action going forward.
Could be a new poker boom when legalized and money can be easily brought in/out of the game. Here is hoping for a return to 2003-2006 when the game was full of fish and very profitable for anyone who had decent skill.

He lost to Kd-5d. Blanks for everyone. The thing is it wasnt like there were a bunch of all in bets. They all played very slow and deliberate with bets under 10 mil. He still had 69 mil out of 200 mil total chips if he folds. He had laid down Ace-small kicker as well as middle pair after flop on much smaller bets.
