Anyone watching this?
I watched the first two episodes and I now think I am stuck watching the full season. Couple of really incredible singers already.
It was nice to have Simon back and at least the first couple episodes they limited the nonsense that normally goes on between him and Paula. I doubt that will last but as much as I have generally not liked Paula in the past when you compare her to the other female judges she does an ok job. I really liked L.A. Reed...he definitely has the chops to give an informed opinion on the talent being judged.
Favorites from week 1: Rachel Crow - bubbly 13 y/o with a big personality and a really strong singer Stacy Francis - 42 y/o who looks like she has been through a lot in her life but totally blew me away when she sang Marcus Canty - Usher/Bobby Brown clone...strong singer/dancer Chris Rene - 28 y/o recovering addict...sort of hip hop R&B vibe...sang an original song that could probably be on the radio tomorrow Nick Voss - pure showman...probably needs work on his vocals but was interesting Caitlin Koch - pretty blond who sang a wicked interpretation of Stop in the Name Love. I guess she is an idol reject. Melanie Amaro - 18 y/o who absolutely knocked a Beyonce song out of the park...probably the best of the week. Kendra Williams - soulful black singer...like a lot we have seen in the past on Idol...could get stale.
A couple of the above performances were as good as any I have ever seen on Idol.
One thing thing I learned watching this show is I am getting soft in my old age. I am a sucker for anyone who is humble/modest...they think they can sing but are not really sure and then step on that stage and knock it out of the park...few made me shed some tears.

Watched the 1st 2 and may watch more, I can only agree, with your evaluations above.
The 13 yr old, 42 yr old and recovering addict...all 3 BLEW me away.

I have watched some but not enough. It gets really tedius when the judges make their comments ad nauseum and then say lets vote. They just heaped loads of praise or scorn on the contestant so the vote seems like more of a formality. Using 4 judges when 3 is plenty is a mystery. The show needs to be more about the performers and less about the judges.
I will probably try to see the episodes online to get caught up.

Watched the 13 yr old sing and will not be watching any more, just an american idol clone just with a bigger age bracket and groups...
Paula makes me gag...

Auditions over...maybe 12-15 people with some potential. Hard to get a great read from only one song.
I thought all of the group acts were very weak.
All of those being judged put 10x more weight in Simon's words.
Wednesdays show was pretty weak....tonight had a couple very strong singers. The last girl was pretty amazing.
I pretty much DVR the show and fast forward to the songs and if someone is good I will watch the back story...otherwise the show is monotonous.

I watched a little bit of it, but hate the bad acts so think I will just wait to watch once they are actually competing.

my mom is very into this show, and i watched over the last couple days. two acts caught my eye:
1. the burrito guy singing "At Last", but it was very formulaic. you knew he would be really good, or really awful, and it was leaning toward good because he looked like such a schlump, and LA Reid even called it, saying the guy knew what he was doing.
2. the guy doing the Radiohead cover. he was quirky and odd and struck me as a Bowie/Grace Jones/Laurie Anderson/David Byrne type of performance art singer from the 70s.

Final 12...on to live voting. I think all of the individual singers are very strong...groups not so much.
The 3 girls are very strong, all would be finalist type american idol competitors.
The 3 boys...all sort of limited to their genre but very strong in what they do well.
The 3 oldies...interesting...scruffy Josh is probably the star of the three.

do these judges even know WTF rock music is?
Astro did straight up hip-hop. Puff Daddy for christs sake, and LA attacked someone else saying THEY didnt do rock while his boy Astro did?
Strikes me, you got Simon on one end of the table and LA on the other end, and ea is trying to prove they got the bigger d*ck. Each attacks the others performers and defends theirs.
I just hope Josh wins it all. That dude is THE real deal.

After Simon gave the punk rapper a free pass despite the kids arrogance and failure tpo perform according to the weeks theme....the show just lost ALL credibility.

Been way wrong with shows before, but I think X-Factor is in for a short run. LA Reid may be a honcho in the music biz, but he is EXTREMELY biased as a judge.
This show did something odd, with ea of the 4 judges selecting contestants early on, in different "categories"; be it age, group acts etc. Each judge then mentors, those they selected to continue. SO, guess who ea judge votes to KEEP every week? Right, the act they mentor. The other performers? The judges basically throw them under the bus and heap platitudes upon their guy(s)/gal(s).
If that aspect isnt remedied for season 2, I dont see the show going for very long at all beyond the 2nd year.
