Hey all,
I have a bit of a dilemma and I hope Guru doesn't mind me 'advertising' here. If its a problem, let me know and I'll take the post down immediately.
I have a pair of black labs. They are 18 months old, 99lbs and 97lbs each. Crate trained, house broken, spayed/neutered, energetic and friendly.
Those of you on facebook with me have seen the photos. Hades (male) and Tornado (female) are brother and sister from the same litter. Their mother was a pure bred chocolate lab (or so the owners told us) who got out one night. The father is unknown (though I honestly suspect multiple).
Awesome attitudes. Gentle giants. They are frisky and playful. They show signs of strong hunting instincts and I suspect could make great hunting dogs or just awesome family pets. They play well with other dogs their size.
Problem is, we're not a good fit for them. They need more attention than my family can give them. All day at while my wife and I are at work they crate-kept. They get to run around on a nice fenced in lot in the evenings. But evenings consist of settling in, making dinner, chores. In short as much as I love these dogs and love having them I shouldn't keep them. I'm looking for a good home. I know rotoguru has a large contigency of posters from Pa. From Harrisburg out to Philadelphia and up to the Poconos. If any of you are interested or know of somebody who may be interested, let me know.
I am an animal lover myself and a dog person. I've wanted a pair of labs since I was a little kid. But reality and dreams often clash. |

word of advice - make sure they go to a good home. whatever you do, don't give them up to a shelter, good fit or not. shelters are awful awful placed, and many healthy and wonderful dogs have been put down for no reason other than over crowding.
you may know this, but if not, i'm letting you know. you're doing a great thing here, putting the interests of the dog above your own. that's selfless and rare and shows you're a true dog lover - just want to make sure you don't make the mistake other dog lovers i know have.

Thanks tree. and the fact that I know its the right thing for them is the only thing helping me do this. I'm 37 years old, father of 3 girls. I'll probably cry the most when they are gone (the dogs being gone, not the girls that is!).

I hope that you find a good home for them, but you are almost past the point where they need tons of exercise. I have a lab as well and at 11 years old chasing anything once is all she is capable of. When she was a year old I would take her to a local golf course and throw a tennis ball with her for an hour plus. And part of that was into a lake on the course.
Regardless, best of luck finding a good home for them.

Wish I could take them--but I've got 4 kids, 3 dogs, 2 bunnies, and 1 wife already.

Try Googling dog and lab rescue sites. We already have 3 dogs and cannot help, but wish you success in your search.
