Season 25 (yes, 25) premieres tonight on CBS.

Not much has been revealed about any gameplay novelties so it looks like the One World, Redemption Island, and Exile Island gimmicks are still thankfully gone.

This season features three returning contestants who were medevac’d off prior seasons. Also features two contestants with some celebrity. Former MLB All-Star Jeff Kent, and the actress who played the Blair character on the old tv show "The Facts of Life".

They start out in three tribes, likely to get down to two after a few episodes.

Looking forward to it.

Decent start to the season.
My guess is they merge into 2 tribes when they get down to 16 players.
I think the 3 tribe start is to avoid the 5-man-day-one alliances that have led to boring and predictable starts.
It appears that Blair will be lucky if she can avoid an early exit.
Was glad to see them vote off the weak player rather than the "returning" player.
There is plenty of time to take out the strong players, but you have to have numbers when you make it to the merge.

The lesson learned from the first episode is, "If you're going to lie, don't do such a good job of it." If Zane had just said one time, "I don't really want to go home," they would have "stuck to the plan" and voted off Russell. But instead he kept saying, "Send me home. I deserve to go. I should go." So they did.

It looks like the lesson of epsisode 2 will be, "Don't alienate yourself. When tribemates go something, stop what you're doing and go with them."

but you have to have numbers when you make it to the merge.
The best way to do that in a 3 tribe to 2 tribe merge is to avoid Tribal Council. I bet we see some double eliminations in immunity challenges soon, if not this week.

Kind of entertaining watching the Dawson girl mess with Jeff Kent. Not the smartest in terms of game play but was good TV.

What was with Dawson groping Probst? She was looking to get some of that...

This season has been ok...definitely better than last season. But since the one tribe got decimated early it feels like the game just started last night.

Dawson's kiss

If you watch the pre-show video of Dawson it gets even more creepy.
If given the chance Im sure she would have done more than just kiss.
When she was standing there I was thinking that she was going to make a little speech to the tribe about Jeff Kent.

Russell was a huge disappointment.
No social game, liability at challenges, and completely delusional about himself.

With 3 Hi's in the game things could get very interesting.
According to Probst: "Next week, another Survivor first!"

Season seems to be picking up with the merge.
The group dynamics are far more splintered as compared to prior seasons.
You have:
Kalabaw: Kent/Penner/Carter

Tandang: Artis/Abi/Peter

Tandang outsiders: Skupin/RC

Matsing: Malcolm/Denise

In everyone's alliance den mother: Lisa/Blair

Its not really clear how solid Malcolm and Denise are and now that Penner sniffed out the blindside things are even more wide open.
Glad to see it will be a two player finals.

Kent blew it. He was in the top 4 of his alliance if he had not gone along with the penner/rc blindside. He had skupin and Lisa gladly jumping ship, giving him the majority "alliance". Now he has lost penner's trust and most likely denise will now side with malcolm putting him and the rest of talabow in the minority...

And on top of that, all the eye candy is now gone, BOO... LOL

Best TC we have had in a long time.
Two players revealing they have the HII?
I can understand Malcolm showing his to bluff that he was going to play it but what was Abi thinking?
That girl has about as much people skills as Russell Hantz.
Still seems pretty wide open with all of the fractured alliances.
It looks like Lisa and Skupin are tight.
Who does Carter join up with?
Penner seems to be making good on his free agent scheme as the lone vote for Abi.
I actually liked Jeff and sad to see him go, but he has nobody to blame but himself.
His irrational fear of the returning player ended up getting himself voted out....and the returning player is still in the game.

Jeff K was not bad in survivor but always hated him as a MLB player and he probably has as much money as everyone else combined so hasta la bye bye.

Really surprised that very few recognized Kent or Lisa. Abi is obviously an idiot...so surprised she volunteered the idol. I like the fact Lisa is now playing the game and disrupting things.

It has been a good season imo...a lot of scrambling...constantly flipping strategies/alliances.

I do like to see Lisa actually playing the game, but sadly she is doing a horrible job. She puts her trust in too many people. I understand her allegiance to Skupin and Penner winning forced her to try and out Malcolm, but in one fail swoop, she has now alienated everybody in the tribe. Nobody will trust her from now on except maybe Skupin. IMO, she told the worst possible person her secret.

I dont know that Lisa is playing a horrible game.
Better to do something than to sit back and have your fate handed to you.
As Probst stated in his weekly interview at EW:

-people are playing to win. We don’t have as many people playing to “make the jury” and I think it’s because they’ve realized that the regret at not going for the gold will haunt you much longer than being voted out early because you went for it. There is no reason to play Survivor simply to “place” —winning is the only goal.
Probst interview

With Skupin's fate frimly tied to Lisa she is in a powerful position to play both sides against each other.
There is still a lot of game to be played and she could make a huge mistake or find herself with a huge target on her back, but as of right now if she makes it to the finals...she wins.

You're right about if she makes it to the finals, she probably wins, unless Denise makes it there too. And thinking it over, telling anybody in her "alliance" with the Evil 3 would have had the same results. Plus, I don't think she is totally aware that final four with those 3 gets her fourth spot as Pete seems to understand or believe he wins against Abi and Artis, and the other 2 are too loyal to their alliance to not go to final 3 with the 3 intact.

But, I do feel she says too much about how her strategy is being played out. And, of course editing plays a big part in what we are led to believe as it does every season.

Imho, most interesting season in a long time..

Another excellent episode.
The evil axis is broken.
Lisa still has her word in tact.
Im not sure she has what it takes to navigate the twist and turns still to come.
I see four groups of two left and shifting alliances with two HII still in the game could mean a lot more surprises to come.
With 8 left and 3 on the jury I would expect this season to be a final 2.
The obvious choice to bring to the finals is Abi.
Looking forward to next week where Abi should turn into a complete dumpster fire.

Yeah, me too, looking forward to seeing her go off next week, what a whack job. Lisa ended up playing it quite well. I would assume she and skupin decided it that way to keep her loyalty, but maybe not.
This season has reaffirmed to me why I still watch religiously

Should be an interesting end game. The only scenario that would ruin the season is if the jury felt butt-hurt enough to give Abi the win.

I am rooting for Lisa...I do not know that she is most deserving but I have liked her game play. Would have been a real nice coup had they blindsided Malcolm. Her best chance to win is to eliminate Denise next and then go after Malcolm. Probably not going to be possible as I expect those two to dominate the immunity challenges until the end. Denise would be very dangerous in front of the jury as she is an excellent communicator.

I think regardless of the end it was probably a really good career move for Lisa to be on Survivor...I could see her getting her own morning talk show or being on a show like the view. She got a lot of very positive exposure for her time on Survivor.

Part of me feels sorry for Abi.
Not in a sympathetic way but more out of pity.
I believe that she really thinks she is the victim and the one being picked on.
Asking Jonathan to apologize for "destroying" her when she acted far worse towards the other contestants can only be explained by a total lack of self awareness.

Handicapping the final 5:
#5 Abi. Even if she makes it to the finals there is no chance she will be able to garner any votes. No amount of crying will convince the jury to reward her for bad behavior.
#4. Lisa. I dont think anyone will allow her to make it to the finals. They know if she does she would win. Not only is she well liked by the viewers but the other players like her as well.
#3 Skupin. I dont think he can step it up to win the challenges to get himself to the final 2. If its a final 3 my guess is the anti-returning player votes would be enough to deny him the victory.
#2 Malcolm. He should be able to make it to the finals by winning challenges. Not so sure he has enough respect for his game play from the other players.
#1 Denise. By default Malcolm will take her to the finals or she could make it if the last challenge is not a test of endurance. She has good communication skills and should be able to draw on her therapist training to make her case. She has played a decent social game as well as being a good competitor when I came to challenges. The bitter jury members will blame their elimination on Malcolm more than they will blame Denise.

Looking at the Ponderosa clips there isnt as much talk about anyone voting for Lisa.
It seems like it will come down to Malcolm and Denise.
If it is a two player finals and Lisa and Skupin are somehow the final two it may be Lisa's only chance.
Should be a good finals.
With Abi gone there are 4 likable players.

I am looking to see the affect on Abi after reading all the internet chatter over the last few months.
You might be able to dismiss the opinions of a few contestants but when the entire internet world is saying you suck it's hard to ignore.

Denise was the deserving winner but everyone in the final four had at least a legitimate claim. Best season in some time...most people actually playing the game and trying to use strategy. Final jury did not disappoint.

Somewhat of an anti-climactic ending to an otherwise decent season.
Was pulling for Lisa but not unhappy with the outcome.
Denise laid it on a bit heavy with the I outplayed, outlasted, outsmarted all of you, but was glad she refused to apologize.

There are a couple of interesting things I have read.
Malcolm claims that he overheard Penner tell a couple of other players to not raise their hands when Probst asks if they would have voted for Malcolm if he was sitting with Denise in the final 3.
I wouldnt put that kind of thing past Penner who was also accused by Skupin for being told if he was voted out he would go to the jury at Ponderosa and lie/make things up to sway the vote away from Skupin.
According to Denise she is the one who told Skupin about Lisa's past.
If Denise and Skupin knew of her celebrity and said nothing then it wasnt Penner's place to say anything.
I doubt it changed any votes but just makes Penner seem kind of dickish.

My one hope for the new season is that they dont allow a returning player from the just completed season.
Playing before is an advantage that is offset by people who watched the show and know the returning player's game.
Playing for a 2nd time while being a complete unknown is too much of an advantage.
