Funny thing on Nikko Smith...he is Ozzie Smith's son (Osbourne Smith II).

No wonder he moves so naturally on stage.

Paula Abdul is funny unintentionally. She looks great, but her only role is to say "You were great!" while the objective black man to her right and the snarky Brit to her left make critical comments.

Tonight:
1. Mario Vasquez 2. Scott Savol 3. Anwar Robinson
Nikko Smith was disappointing. As the black judge noted, he was off-key in the first half of his song. The song he chose, "Georgia on my Mind", did not show off his stage-moving abilities. He saved himself with a great voice display, holding a note for a while, at the end of the song, although it's not really the type of song that calls for that.

Tonight was the first time I've watched this show. Post #4 is exactly what I was thinking as I was watching. I don't know all of their names, but I liked the first guy, the last guy, and the hispanic guy who sang a ballad and said he was showing a different side to himself.

FYI - one of the guys at work today said that he saw a report over the weekend that Mario quit the show - didn't want to "commit" to the contract w/Fox.
That means Nikko is back in.

The news on it is hilarious. They are quoting him as saying he left for personal family issues. They are quoting his mom as saying there are no family issues.
The only issue is M-O-N-E-Y
Betting he wouldn't sign the contract as katietx said.

While I am sure FOX/American Idol takes a big part of these guys in their contracts he is taking a huge risk as he really is a nobody at this point and now may remain that way. I don't think he was going to win it all anyway.

it's a well known fact within the industry that the AI contracts are pretty brutal. they take a toll on the performers.
Kelly Clarkson suffered until she got used to the grind - look at images of her in the first 6 months after she won - she was looking relatively gaunt and emaciated.
Justin Guarini disappeared from the scene. he was even dropped from the label.
Ruben Studdard had to be hospitalized.
nothing bad yet on Clay Aiken.
Fantasia seems to be doing ok, but let's see what time dictates.

Theme night: 60s music.
The first half of contestants were pretty bad, as Roger and Simon noted. The last 6 picked it up.
By far the best:
1. Nadia Turner (You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" -- Dusty Springfield)
After that, hard to separate, I'd go with
2. Nikko Smith 3. Vonzell Solomon 4. Bo Bice

Who is Roger? Celebrity judge? or do you mean Randy Jackson? Randy Jackson always reminded me of somebody but I could never figure out who. Now I know. Samuel L. Jackson. They're cousins.

Vonzel & Bo - by far the best of the night. That girl is great!
It was nice to actually hear Constantine's voice for a change - even tho his performance wasn't the best.

I'd go:
I'd favor Bo Brice & Nadia Turner. Both have stage presence and can sing.
Actually, there are a few others that I like too, especially from the girls. Good field this year. A couple of not-so-stellars in there to.

I don't watch it enough to know all of their names, but for 60's music I liked:
1. Guy who sang "Ain't too proud to beg" 2. Nadia 3. Bo 4. That blonde country singer (though she's been better)
I like the guys' voices better than the females.

Scott Savol sang "Ain't Too Proud To Beg".
I like Scott, but he's pudgy, rotund, and not exactly any on-stage idol type. I think he has the 2nd or 3rd best voice, and the best understanding of phrasing, pacing, etc., in the competition. Either he or Nadia is the best pure singer IMO.

Personally, I think Anwar has the best "pure" voice, though he also wasn't his best in this past weeks performance. After him, I agree with your order Ref.

OK this week, I still like that Scott Savol, but I've gotta move up that blond country singer to #2 and that other country singer up there somewhere in the top 5.
What a goof about the phone numebrs. Lot sof conspiracy theorists out there about this.

Btw, word is that Mario dropped out of Idol because P. Diddy made him a huge offer to do so. As we know the top 12 are under contract for a grueling tour and time committments. I hear the contract really takes advantage of them, but I'm sure most don't mind. Looks like Mario got a much better deal with Bad Boy Records.
The audience got it right in ridding micalah. She was the only one I really didn't like vocally. Nadia went from being one of the best to being one of the worst. She just didn't do well. The Russian guy has never been my favorite so wasn't surprised to hear he was 3rd lowest vote.

I think Bo, Constantine, and Carrie will be top 3. I'll save further predictions until then.
My picks for next 6 to go from the top 9, in order from this week on...
- Anthony (good, but not in same league with remaining 8). - Scott (Great voice does not have the look). - Nadia (She started so well, she may make a mini-comeback). - Vonzell (getting better every week). - Nikko (Ozzie Smith's kid makes top 5, not bad after not making original finalists) - Anwar (much better than ones who were eliminated before him, but not the same caliber IMO of top 3).

I think Scott is going tonight, his last 2 performances have been pretty bad.
I predict the rest to go as follows: Anthony(thought he should have gone last week, before Jessica) Nikko(should have been gone already) Nadia(definitely the worst of the girls left) Constantine(very talented but I think his appeal to the women has helped him considerably) Anwar, Vonzell, Bo and Carrie will make up the final four and among them I am undecided though I like Anwar's performances thus far the best.

Very surprised Scott didn't go last night, especially with the blurb I saw on MSN regarding his "misdemeanor" domestic abuse case.
I know that he was upfront w/Idol regarding the situation, but still surprised he was voted thru. Not surprised he was in the bottom 3.
Ski - I gotta disagree w/you about Nadia.
Do agree about Anwar - love his voice.

predictions: -Scott(cant sing in tune to save his life) -Anthony(personally I think he has a great voice but he isnt connecting with the fans) -Nadia(Great stage presence but not enough fan base) -Anwar(Great ending to his songs but has trouble singing the whole song) -Vonzell(not enough fan base) -Constantine(agree with skid "very talented but I think his appeal to the women has helped him considerably") -Bo(Best stage presence + the female appeal) -Carrie(Best pure singing voice by far. She will need to improve stage presence to win but she can gain confidence with each perfomance)

I didn't see the show tonight but from the fox web site it appears that Nikko got voted off. He should have been gone long ago, but he's still better than federov.
I have always like Carrie the best of all, but even though he doesn't have the look, Scott can sing. Anwar can sing, but he's not as good as those two IMM. Bo can sing. He's better than Constantine--though Con actually did very well this week.
Vonzell is getting better. Nadia is up and down.
Federov has to go soon. He obviously has the teanage girl vote.

I'm sure the east coasters have already seen it but on the west coast it doesn't air until 9, which is an hour from now. Judging on last night's performances and popularity, I am guessing Scott and Anthony for non-popularity and Nadia for poorest performance make up the bottom 3 tonight, with Anthony being booted.

Bo did 'Freebird' this past week. Probably not too popular with the demographics who watch the show as it was with me. Maybe he peaked too early, but I thought his last couple of weeks were not as good as prior performances. Now that he was in the bottom 3, his supporters will make sure to vote a few more times each week. The judges accurately pointed out that former winners Ruben and Fantasia also appeared in the bottom three around this same point of their seasons. I remember Fantasia being in the bottom 3 when there were 7 left.
Scott and Anthony should be the next ones to go.

Scott wasn't as good this week, but what a bad song choice. Anthony actually did well for a change. Bo did a nice job on Freebird. Nothing surprises me too much at this point. Nadia was voted off, as expected. Carrie wasn't that bad for a country singer doing a rock song. There were just others better last week.
I really like last year's show much better with the celebrities coming in and the show doing their songs.

Anwar Bo and Vonzelle were great last night. Everybody was actually pretty good. I'm guessing(and hoping) Scott and Anthony make up 2/3 of the bottom 3. It's a toss up in my mind on the third. Scott should probably be leaving.

I'm just pissed that Revelation and Lost are on at the same time.

As long as I've been rooting for Anthony to be booted off, he was much better than Vonzell this week. She will be gone next week and I think Carrie will win it all--as I've said all-along. I do think Bo will get a nice record deal though.

As I said in 29, I like Carrie the best from the start, though each week there was someone who usually did better in that given week.
I was flipping through the channels and heard Paula Abdul's message on that dude's answering machine and gotta admit, she seems like she's trying to cover it up. She tells him (Corey I think his name was) not to say anything to anyone about it, etc.
