This is a pretty cool show.

Anybody watching it? Good to see Sugar Ray Leonard.

So who won the fight? I gave up on it when they started carrying the logs up the hill. At that point the show started looking like any other lame ass reality tv show.

I agree...the show started out terrible/slow...but when it came to the fight it was excellent. I think future shows will be better since they will only be an hour and all of the introductory stuff is over.

Basically since the West coast won the challenge they got to choose the fight...they were discussing as a team and were going to send the two fighters that they judged as the least experienced/weakest to fight each other and then Alfonso Gomez spoke up and said he wanted to volunteer and wanted to fight Manfredo Jr...everyone was kind of shocked as Manfredo was regarded as one of the better fighters (if not the best...ranked #3 in the world in a higher weight class than Gomez)...his own teammates were telling him he is nuts etc...Gomez showed nothing but confidence and heart and said he would beat him...Sugar Ray and Stallone were shocked when they announced the challenge/fight.

In the first round Gomez began to put a beating on Manfredo to the obvious shock of everyone. The second round Manfredo staggered Gomez but couldn't put him down...3rd/4th/5th Gomez dominated and won a unanimous decision.

Was just cool to see the underdog win and that he had so much heart to challenge the recognized best fighter and then beat him.

I thought the fight was edited pretty well...didn't show every second but kind of a highlights but good action none the less...got a good sense of how the fight went...kind of did a stop action type thing when the fighter threw a good connecting punch that was interesting and made it easy to see blows that really connected.

I didn't think I would even like this show and just kind of tuned into the last 45 minutes but I think I am hooked now...

One of the contenders killed himself a couple of weeks ago. I think his name was Turpin. They said he was a decent fighter.

Wow, really?

Don't tell me he lost a boxing match in this thing and then killed himself?

Michael what is your source for that information? I would like to read that myself.

They don't see whether he lost a match or not but it almost sounds like it.

They said the episodes involving Turpin have already been taped.

I saw the fight in last nights episode and it was actually a decent fight. Better than the scrubs in "The next Great Champ" or whatever that crappy show was called. I wonder when this Turpin guy is gonna fight. I noticed in last nights episode that during the fight he was shown maybe once in the crowd while all the other fighters were shown a few times.

I watched last nights episode start to finish. Other than the hokey team challenge thing it's a pretty decent show. Last nights fight was great. I whish they would show the bouts in thier entirety or at least more boxing and less crap.

I have no interest in watching boxers play dodgeball!

Completely agree, there needs to be less BS, and more fighting. I find they try and edit it so that it looks like a fair fight until the final round. It's very hard to judge a round based on 30-45 min segments of each round.

The dodgeball sequence was good for nostalgia only.

I'm already hooked on this show. They do a good job with the contestants and the fights are editing beautifully.

I agree with you guys that if the show was mostly or entirely boxing, then it would be twice as good. The Contender is already a great show, but they can make it a classic by showing more of the fights.

I wouldn't have a problem (NBC might) with making the show 90 minutes just to have the full fight.

I'm suspecting that if the ratings are solid enough, the final episode or the final two episodes may be 90 minutes or two hours to show the entire fight.

Any word on the ratings?

Does anyone watch Spike t.v's "UFC Fighter"? It's along the same lines as "The Contendor" but, obviously, it's UFC fighting. The coaches for the teams are Chuck Lidell and Randy Couture. It's a pretty decent show.

Good fight this weekend...a lot of solid blows.

I think it is crap they brought Manfredo back...how can they bring someone back who has already lost. If they need a replacement bring in an alternate or a new fighter...I think it is unfair that a loser gets another shot at the million.

Did they actually do that? That is stupid and unfair to the other guys.

Kind of makes me not watch it anymore because it's seems rigged now. I have only watched the first episode so far.

The one fighter (fraza) came down with chicken pox...so they had to pull him from the competition. They let the remaining fighters vote to bring one of the losing fighters back.

It's still bullcrap. The should have just given one fighter a BYE into the next round or something.

To bring back a losing fighter kind of cheapens it a little bit. And why would the other boxers vote to bring back one of the best boxers in the show. Wasn't that Manfredo guy undefeated before this competition? Something fishy going on there.

I'm not watching anymore.

I don't know how fair it would've been to give someone a free pass into the final 8 via a bye.

This past episode's fight was OK. Problem was that it had to follow the great fight from two weeks ago.

There's not enough Stallone. Sugar Ray is good, but I want to see Rocky darnit.

I'm still holding out hope they show more of the fight.

I started watching the show when it premiered and it was so bad, that I had to turn it and haven't been back since. Guess I should have tried to make it to the fight as that was the main reason I was watching it in the first place.

I think that The Contender is a real good show. I wish they showed more fighting and less crowd reaction, but I have watched every show so far and I dont plan on missing any.

I also like the Ultimate Fighter. That show is intense.

The guy who killed hisself fought yesterday and lost. It was a pretty decent fight and it was basically decided by the last round. The way they edited it , it looked like he gave up. He didn't do to much fighting in the last round. After the fight he was playing with his daughter in the lockerroom.

The guy they brought back, Manfredo, won his fight. The other team is regretting bringing him back now.

I was wondering what you lot think of the speculation of the Contendor being fake because the fighters get more time between the bells?

Can someone explain the evidence suggesting it is all set up?

You have the California boxing comission on site as well as a lot of fans and others.
Rumor doesn't make sense and this is the first I have heard of it.

Yep that's what I was thinking, I doubt people as big as Ray would try and fool thousands of people, it could damage his reputation.

So you think all of it is real?

I am pretty certain it is real as I have talked with a writer who was at the fights. There are differences though that make the fights a lot closer or give the underdogs a chance. The five round format in the early rounds make it more even where the better fighters would probably succeed more often in longer fights. The ring is very small which favors less skill more all out punching.

I was so pumped up for the rematch bouts. BE honest though, The only one that was wasnt fixed in the judging was the first one. Thats because it was so out matched. What a ratings ploy, and I hope that all those guilty of it get caught and humiliated. I really hoped this would be good. The outcome from the judge's decisions were so obviously wrong, vs. Compubox scores and the announcer score cards and and anyone who knows the science, that could see the rounds... know that it was a sorry excuse to build up the show by pissing off everyone with any comon sense. Sad and too bad, dont fall for it next season... later!

it was pathetic...somehow it was a setup...they were regular boxing judges, that often do big fights...maybe someone paying to make the contender boxing matches seem illegitimate...the contender is stepping on the toes of some of the established boxing community...the decisions were so wrong something had to be up.

I am a big fan of The Contender and the UFC fights. They are both great shows. I never liked boxing or any of the UFC Fights until my Daughter became a boxer. Now I look forward to all the shows that have boxing. The best show of the Contender was with Jesse,Joey,Alfonso and Sergio competing for who picks the next fight. It was great to see the humorous side of Jesse. I do agree with all of you about bringing back the fighters who had lost. It was not fair for those who won their fights. Jesse and all the other fighters, thanks for a great show. What happened to Stallone in this season of the contender? Has anyone noticed that there are no celeberties in the audience this season? The worst part of the UFC show was when the fighters tore up the house they were in. That is total disrespect for the show and themselves not to mention Dana White. This shows kids that it is okay to act so immature and okay to destroy other peoples property because they didn't get their way. It is pretty bad when the ones who should know better are the ones tearing up things. All those little boy's should grow up and set an example for the kids who watch these shows. Why don't the producers of the show say anything to these losers? Or do they? Over all I love the shows. I would love to meet all the coaches from both seasons. Even Shamrock.

I was watching about a month ago when I realized I recognized Walter Wright because I represented him in court. He's the guy who was absolutely robbed by K9 Burrage in the second round. I can't believe that the ref continuted to let K9 grab and hold not only against Wright but tonight as well, it was a mockery of boxing.
