I've had a girlfriend who became a crackhead, and it's amazingly hard to watch. She's been to rehab/detox/etc. multiple times, but falls back each time. Does it take away your dignity? Sometimes, I think, but not always. I have asked her about the subject before, and she said that she just tries hard not to think about it.
Before my experiences with her, it was easy for me to find humour in situations like Whitney's or Strawberry's or whomever's. Now it just makes me think of her, and it's really just easier if I don't think about it.
