0 Subject: Best TV Series DVD's

What are some of the best TV Series on DVD that you like? I'm a big fan of 24, Smallville, CSI, and Survivor, etc. but I haven't purchased any of their DVD's yet. I'm wondering if the "extras" are worth it and where I can get the lowest price at.

Furthermore, Mrs. Dummy (!) is interested in past seasons of All My Children, General Hospital, etc. Have those shows been released on DVD yet?

Thanks, as always, for the help.

Band of Brothers is awesome, even for this lefty.

There is some sort of museum of television, or some such, where you can watch all the old soaps (or anything else for that matter) but I'm not sure you can buy them.

They aren't on netflix.

Could you imagine how big a DVD set of 1 season of a soap would be?

All My Children, Season 1, 60-DVD's

Is this to say there are NO soaps on DVD yet?

I have:
Star Trek Season 1. Excellent. Looking foward to getting more.

The Simpsons Seasons 1 thru 5. The pinnacle of American television entertainment. No further comment necessary.

Family Guy Seasons 1, 2 and 3. Excellent.

Battle of the Planets. I forget how many episodes but its not the complete series. A number of episodes are skipped so for that reason its a little disappointing. I'm pretty sure there's a more complete set out there now.

Married... With Children. It was a gift and I haven't watched it yet so I'm not sure exactly what's on it. I usually liked the show tho.

I'm really hoping that the necessary licensing agreements will be made to get the original "The Tick" animated TV series on DVD.

I took a week off in February to coincide with my fiancee's winter recess. I got in most of the Star Treks during that time. With The Simpsons and Family Guy DVDs I generally just watch my favorite episodes since I've seen them all anyway. I had a "Battle of the Planets night" last year and watched most of them and another night few months ago when I think I saw the rest. I forgot I also have a set with a couple of Ren and Stimpy seasons. I've actually probably watched that more often than any of the others.

I'm seriously looking for a DVD series of JOHNNY SOKKO AND HIS FLYING ROBOT to come out someday. It was my favorite show as a kid and I would absolutely love to share it with my three children.

Hands down, "Land of the Lost". What a hoot. I've also been meaning to pick up the entire 24 series.

I have South Park Season 2, which includes several hilarious episodes.

1. Clubhouses, where Stan and Kyle have to build a clubhouse so they can play Truth or Dare with Bebe and Wendy.

2. SpookyFish, which stars a Cartman from a parallel universe who is nice and friendly, and wants to win the pumpkin carving contest with Stan and Kyle.

3. The Return of Mr. Hanky, starring the whole Hanky family, including his eldest son, Cornwallis (those of you who know who Mr. Hany is know that this is disgusting).

Simpsons Season 1-5 are amazing. The shows are great, and the commentary on every episode is just as entertaining.

Da Ali G Show season 1 is great, but it doesn't have enough extras.

I just found out that the Larry Sanders Show season 1 is on DVD so I'm going to buy that soon.

I couldn't see buying 24 or CSI although they're good shows; I mean are your really going to want to watch the episodes more than once or twice? The way to do these shows is through renting them from Netflix (or equivalent). I've actually been watching CSI this way and am midway through season 2 (after never watching it on TV).

The ones I own are The Simpsons (1-5), Family Guy (1-3), Seinfeld (1-3), The Office (complete series & special), Mr Show (1-2) and various Spongebobs for the kids. I'd also recommend the Sopranos and Arrested Development which I've rented.

The Office is a knockoff of a funnier british show, I seem to recall.

for the most part you can see every CSI on repeat. They are on 2 or 3 times a night on spike.

As for 24 every so often they will replay the whole 24 hours. Set your VCR and tape them or TIVO if you have it. It is alot easy and cheaper then buying the season.

Six Feet Under lst season was a good buy for me. I hadn't seen it and knew very little about it (except that it was quality).

I'm gonna get Deadwood next, I think.

I'd like to find out if there is a collection of Land of the Giants.

Arrested Development, Season One, is a must have.
as is The Chappelle Show, Season Two.

the first two season of Northern Exposure are keepers.

and the first season of Lost, due on Sept. 6, is a must have.

Yeah, J, The Office was originally on BBC. Ricky Gervais played the boss and actually won a Golden Globe or two for best actor in a comedy series; he was also the co-creator and writer. The re-make with Steve Carrell is also good but you can't outdo the Brits for uncomfortable silences/awkward moments. Also, a good portion of the original was ad-libbed or at least seemed more spontaneous than the NBC version - think Curb Your Enthusiasm in an office setting.

I definitely recommend it. There weren't many episodes, so the seasons are on three discs. The special which was made late last year and revisited the characters a couple years later is also avaiable. The pilot of the NBC was essentially a copy of the BBC pilot but the rest of the plots of the NBC shows have been new.

I would have been all over the X-Files DVDs a couple years back, if they weren't released at $90-100 a season. That was ridiculous.
