Anyone seen this yet? It's pretty funny. Basically they take one hit wonders and bring them back and they play their hit and then play a cover song. Last night Vanilla Ice won. He really didn't do a cover song, he did his own song but called it "Survivor" by Destiny's Child. It was indeed titled that but by himself. He competed against Tommy Tutone, The Knack, The Motels and Haddaway
The first week, Arrested Development won. I actually thought Tiffany was by far the best. Also competing were Loverboy, CeCe Penniston and Flock of Seagulls.
This week I thought Haddaway with "What is Love?" was the best (famous for the SNL hit Night at the Roxbury or something like that). But on their web site he was last. Their covers are just horrible but it's funny to watch and try and listen.
Next week's lineup will be by far the best with Cameo, Howard Jones, Wang Chung, Irene Cara and Sophie B. Hawkins. |

The main reason to watch is to see them perform their originals. The second half of the show is a comedy seeing if any of them can still sing other than their own one hit.

I don't think one-hit wonders describe every musical act on the show.

Nah, they're not all one hit wonders, but has beens is fairly accurate. There would be no need for a current star to go on there. My wife and I like the shoe, and I agree that the first half of the show is far and away the best half. The contest for "favorite" is really irrelevant and I suppose adds a tad of tension. At least the prize is a donation to charity ($20,000 IIRC).

Agreed TB and Ender. Not every artist just had one hit. I mean Howard Jones who is on this week has a Greatest Hits CD that sold pretty well. (OK I admit I got it free with some record club signup a few years ago). But, as far as I can tell, they all have one defining song for which they are really remembered--the song that charted the highest. Loverboy probably had a few--though I don't know what else they hit with.
Still the first half of the show is pretty fun listening to the 5 bands/artists and their original renditions of their hit song. Many of them bring back lots of memories and I had most of them transferred from cd to mp3 already. Can't wait to hear "Word Up!" this week. ;)

Ref, I almost started a similar thread but I was not willing to admit that I actually watched the show LOL!
Vanilla Ice kicked ass!
I think next week I'll watch re-runs of American Choppers, American Hot Rod or Monster Garage;).

Saw the Arrested Development show, but only saw the second half when they did the covers! I thought AD would do horribly, but they had the best cover by far--all the others were trying to sing the song pretty much exactly as they were recorded, but AD made it their own (and they picked a song that I thought would be hard to do that to, Los Lonely Boys' "Heaven").
Didn't catch this weeks show--wish I had. But there are no shortage of barely working former hitmakers.

The "Reality Shows" are very cheap to make and with all the money they bring in, no wonder they are increasing. Right now, they don't have much competition as the season's have concluded and you have a bunch of repeats on. I read in the paper last week that the realith show ballroom dance competition, with the likes of Evander Holifield (UGH) among others was the most watched show last week! The 'Hit me Baby' show also did well.

The host is hands down the worst part of the show. I hate that whole Robin Leach-style accent. Also can't stand how the only person that gets interviewed is the lead singer.
And while I agree that the first half of the show is more fun to watch, I think that most of the acts actually sound better on the 2nd half of the show, where they get to pick a song that's still in their vocal range...!

Agreed, that host is horrible. Definitely not making much!!!
I laughed so hard when wang chung did Nelly "gettin hot in here."
I knew Cara would win based on the audience reaction to her "what a feelin'." I think Howard Jones was the best and Cameo wasn't bad either. Cara did well but wasn't loving her Hot Caramels band in the 2nd half of the show.
This week's show doesn't knock my socks off... Thelma Houston Greg Kihn Glass Tiger Club Nouveau Billy Vera
Without seeing them, it's a ho-hum lineup. I probably would say Lean on Me and Club Nouveau would win simply because their song is upbeat.

Haven't seen that episode yet (but have it TIVOed...)
The only think I have on the next lineup are Greg Khin's album names... Khinspiracy, Rock Khin Roll, Khintinued, Khintageous... I always thought a great album name for him would be Khinstipation.

Last week's show wasn't very good. I thought Glass Tiger was the best, but Thelma Houston won it. I think any of the upbeat songs have the ebst chance to win. I think this week's show (5th week) is the season finale.

Thelma won the Tina Turner vote... actually, she was my pick as well. Greg Khin sounded like he's spends all his time smoking and drinking hard liquor... what the hell happened to his voice? I can't honestly remember what Glass Tiger did, so I guess that tells you what I thought of them...
Still havent' seen the Irene Cara show yet...

Bravo has all the shows and plays them over and over again.
Week 5 had only two good performers in my opinion. I liked Shannon the best followed closely by PM Dawn. In the closest vote ever, PM Dawn won it. Didn't say who was second.
