Any thoughts on changing the provisional rule to if your guy doesn't start the second round, your provisional takes effect? It is so frustrating to have a guy withdraw after the first round. It's happened to me twice in the last three weeks.

Jedman - I'm for that. It's happened to me six times this year.

Would you still keep the round 1 score from the player that withdrew or would he be thrown out altogether?

I would say that if it can be kept it should be. But I think it's a good idea (and it's only about the second time this year I've had someone do it to me).

I think he'd be thrown out all together. Maybe it's just sour grapes, but a guy withdraws after 17 holes and it's ok, a guy finishes his round and withdraws and you're screwed. If he hits one shot in the second round, then you're out of luck. I guess I'm trying to see what the difference is if a guy withdraws mid-round in round 1 or after his round. I realize there has to be a definitive rule, just wondering if anything prior to round 2 makes sense.

17-No. we are all in this together thats why its called FANTASY GOLF. Next youll want 5 golfers and take the best 4. When does it stop.

Do I still get a provisional in case 1 of my 5 drops out?

The reason for setting the rule as it is now was to allow all provisional replacements to occur at the close of round 1. The motivation for the rule was really was to protect against last minute withdrawals, but I expanded that to include anyone who withdrew before the completion of the first round.

I can sympathize with the disappointment of the guy who completes 18 holes and then withdraws - it's happened to me, too. But if I allow them to be replaced, then I have the potential of needing to make additional replacements on the second day - because not all round 1 withdrawals will be announced by the end of round 1.

I'll consider that for next year. But if I were to replace a player who withdrew after 18 holes, that player's scores from round 1 would be wiped out, just as they are now.

19--If you read the rules and under rule 16B "The Sarge Factor" it states that it really doesnt matter they wont make the cut anyway.

Guru, I think the integrety of the game would be better served if the provisional golfer ONLY applied to late minute scratches vs WD's in the 1st round. If your guy doesn't make it to the 1st tee box, then the provisional kicks in. After that all bets should be off.

No offense jedman....and I have benifited this season from a starter that didn't finish his opening round, but if your guy gets to the 1st tee on Thursday, I think that should be enough to keep him active for the week.

I agree with louky. Once a golfer tees off, he should be on your team for that tournament. A golfer may withdrawal during the first round because he is playing poorly. I don't think a fantasy manager should benifit by getting a replacement for this golfer.

I'll certainly raise the issue during the offseason.

Most of the time, it seems to me that withdrawals during the first round are due to injury, not poor play. I suspect that some meaningful proportion of withdrawals after the first round is completed are due to poor play - which may or may not be injury related.

Arguably, injury-related withdrawals during the first round might not be something that deserves provisional protection.

In football if Peyton Manning gets injured on the first play of a game and is taken out becase of ittheres no provincial. Same in baseball, basketball ,and hockey. Its fantasy sports.

How about if you hit the superfecta, none of your four selections making the cut, you get a randomly generated selection of 4 who did make the cut.

I am just joking. Please don't change a thing. This is a great game just bitter because none of my guys made the cut. First time this has happened since this game started x number of years ago.
