The field still lists two spots for the winners of the WGC and Reno-Tahoe events. Woods and Flesch are already in. Anyone know whether those two spots go to the first two alternates (Brian Gay and Steve Marino) or do they go unfilled?

Flesch was not in the original field listing, but has been added (even though the listing says August 2), so he took that slot. The other available tee time is blank (last group on the #1 tee is just a twosome).

Furyk still in PGA Championship field
Jim Furyk - G - PGA - Aug. 8 - 7:38 a.m. ET
As of early Wednesday morning, Jim Furyk is still listed in the field for the 89th PGA Championship as Southern Hills.
Despite mixed messages earlier in the week concerning the back problems which caused him to withdraw the last minute at Firestone, Furyk is listed on the Thursday tee times. With more press conferences and news reports to follow today, we'll keep this story updated. In the meantime, be sure and check out our picks in the Bench/Start and Tournament Preview columns on this web page.

Furyk might withdraw from PGA due to pain
Jim Furyk - G - PGA - Aug. 7 - 3:08 p.m. ET
Jim Furyk commented that he will need the pain in his back to get better for him to play this week at the PGA Championship.
He did some light practice on Monday and played nine holes, but commented, "It's better, but if I don't keep getting better each day, I would say that it's unlikely that I will play." Furyk was red hot before his back injury last week, and fantasy managers will have to watch over the next couple of days to see if his injury improves.

Guru - does the provisional golfer have to cost less than the guy he replaces? I guess I am a little confused about this aspect of the game.

Trivia and a good dark horse pick - in fact if I was a betting man I would plunk some cash down on this guy, besides being the answer to my question, he has had 4 top-10 finishes in his last 5 tournaments - here's the question:

What Oklahoma State golfer won the 2003 Big 12 tournament at Southern Hills in 2003 by 13 shots?

Your provisional doesn't have to be cheaper than the guy he replaces... but, basically, you have to have enough cash on hand to make the trade happen if he's more expensive. Pretend you were manually making the trade yourself and, if you could do it, it will happen.

I suspect the answer is Hunter Mahan. He's been on a huge roll since he finished T17 at the St. Jude. Won the Travelers and shot 62 in round 1. Also shot a 1st round 62 at the Canadian Open. That round had three eagles including two hole outs, one of which (9th) I was lucky enough to witness. Also followed him for the first three holes on Friday. He was on the 1st green in two (598 yard par 5!) but missed a 6 footer for another eagle. Nearly 4 eagles in 10 holes. Struggled the rest of the round but was in the thick of it on Sunday before finishing bogey, double to finish T5.

He might be in more line-ups this week if he hadn't been in the WGC last week. Also this is his 8th tournament in 10 weeks including the last 4 in a row. That's a lot of golf even for a young buck like Hunter.

He's a good pick for just about any course. Supposedly accuracy is a premium this week and he's 1st overall in total driving (26th in accuracy, 27th in distance). A good stat any week!

Rex is correct. Mahan should score well(?). My other off the wall pick was Mark Brooks who lost in a playoff at the last major at Southern Hills.

If you access the tourney recap page, live scores are posted as the round progresses.

I think live scoring is working OK again - although I can't be completely sure.

Sergio DQ'd after signing incorrect scorecard

TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Sergio Garcia was disqualified from the PGA Championship on Saturday for signing an incorrect scorecard.

Garcia, who made the cut on the number at 5-over par, signed for a 4 on the par-4 17th hole, when he in fact recorded a 5.
He was playing alongside Boo Weekley, who was keeping his scorecard and wrote the score down incorrectly. It is the player's responsibility to check the card for accuracy and Garcia didn't do that.

Garcia had left the course and was not available for comment when his disqualification was announced.

"It's my fault for putting the wrong score in, but it's his fault for not checking," said Weekley, who shot 5-under 65. "I just said 'Sergio, I put a 4 but in fact you had a 5.' He said, 'That just puts the icing on the cake."'

Weekley said he called Garcia back to the scoring tent after the scorecard had been signed, in hopes the mistake could be fixed. But officials said once Garcia had left the area, there was no correcting the problem.

"He just took off," Weekley said. "I called him back down and tried to get him before he got all the way up the stairs."

Awesome. My team where I am shooting for highest roster value, "HRV-jeffg", is finally on top of the money list among those eligible for prizes...and it had the best ball score for the PGA to boot.

Congrats JeffG! This was yet another dismal tournament for my teams. I did have Tiger on one team, but of course he was the only one to make the cut too!
