New PGA cut rules
While this might be a good thing for the PGA, I hope it doesn't cause to many problems for Guru.

early season decisions...
The season is still early and trades or still low. I have a full team so do I upgrade one or two guys to better players or conserve trades for the future when they might really be needed.
I guess I will have things to ponder at work today.

Given your place in the standings, I'd be inclined to conserve trades, at least until the Masters. There's Bayhill, a brand new tourney in Puerto Rico running opposite the WGC - CA and the Masters in the next few weeks so a lot of lineup changes may be in the offing.
Of course, this advice is in no way influenced by the fact my teams are chasing your teams and, after setting my lineups this week, will have just one trade left per team. ;)

OTH, I have a long established history of mediocrity in this game, and have opted for the "conserve trades" approach at this stage. (Meaning, you should prolly do differently. lol)

I ended up keeping my teams and saving the trades. My worry is that most of my teams have the same guys so if they don't make the cut then I will have all my teams drop.

PFB, my louky3 and your pfb2 had the same line up last week. I went Funk to Rose and burned the trade. Half way thru the 1st round it looks like doing nothing was a better move. We'll see how the week plays out.

Last year, +4 and better made the cut. So far, +3 looks safe this year, but it's unclear whether we'll get to +4 or not. We might.

Reflecting on my earlier question about saving/using trades. I will have 3 of 4 make the cut on each team. A couple of teams did not score well today but at this point I am glad to have saved the trades!!

A cut line of +5 doesn't even look out of the question if the current scoring trend continues.

Would the 5's play? 94 at +5 or better, would the new cut rule, whatever it is, come into play?

If the top 70 plus ties are at +5, then as I understand it, all of the +5s would play on Saturday. There would then be another cut after the third round to get closer to 70 players on Sunday.

Guru: I think the new rule is to keep the field as close to 70 as possible. So if 70+ ties in more than 78 the field on Sat/Sun would be less than 70. The golfers get credit for "making the cut" but dont play.
Following is an explanation of the rule:
• The starting field shall be reduced to the 70 professionals having the lowest scores at the conclusion of 36 holes of tournament play, including any professionals tied for 70th place, plus amateurs with scores not higher than that of the 70th professional, provided, however, that should such a cut include more than 78 professionals, the field shall be reduced (cut) to the score which includes the number of professionals nearest 70th place, plus amateurs with scores not higher than the professionals nearest 70th place.
• Should there be an equal number of professionals at different scores at equal intervals above and below 70th position, the higher score shall be used. In the event of any such reduction (cut), professionals eliminated who otherwise would have played in the final 36 holes shall receive their appropriate share of the official prize money in accordance with their respective positions.
In layman's terms, it means:
• The cut for most PGA TOUR events remains where it has been in the past, at low 70 professionals and ties.
• If that cut results in a field larger than 78 professionals, the cut will generally be at the next lower score, meaning the weekend field will be smaller than 70. That is the case at the Sony Open, where a total of 69 players finished at 1 under or better.
• In a very few cases, the "number nearest 70" may still be over 78, in which case the larger number of professionals would play the weekend.
• In any case, all professionals who are in the group of "low 70 professionals and ties" but are eliminated from weekend play by the new rule, receive credit for a made cut, as well as their share of official prize money and FedExCup points

Right now there are 76 golfers at +4 or better. If 3 of the golfers at +5 make it to +4 that would be 79 and the cut would then be +3 with a field of 65 for the weekend.

We ended up with 77 players at +4 or better, so the new rule doesn't come into play.

17 played tough today. 3 of 4 on one squad double bogey and the 4th bogeys it.
