Any idea for a launch date for 2009?

In a couple of weeks per the Daily Blurbs on the main page.

I'm hoping to launch for preseason by the start of the FBR Open (Jan 29th). First official week (playing for keeps) will likely be the ATT Pebble Beach, which begins on Feb. 12. This would mirror the timing of last year's launch.

Question: When should the GuruGolf season end?

There are several plausible weeks to serve as the final event:
1. The PGA Championship (Aug 16th - the final Major)

2. Wyndham Championship (Aug 23) - final regular season event

3. Deutsche Bank Championship (Sept 7) - last event with a cut

4. BMW Championship (Sep 13) - next to last event, 70 players, no cut

5. Tour Championship (Sep 27) - only 30 players, no cut, and two weeks after the Wyndham.

Prior to 2008, I extended the season all the way to the Tour Championship. Last year, I ended with the BMW, to avoid the 2-week gap (during which the Ryder Cup was held). But maybe that's even taking the season longer than warranted. The NFL season is likely to start at the same time as the Deutsche Bank tournament.

Any thoughts?

Just throwing out ideas here...

First off I vote for ending it with the PGA Championship.

It might be fun to restart the game for the four playoff tournaments which start two weeks later. Same scoring, etc., as the regular game. The big difference would be no trades. We'd start from scratch with Guru setting a new payroll and you pick a foursome before the Barclay's and have to hold them through the TOUR championship. If they don't make it to the next round, you're short a golfer (or four). That way, you sort of inject a cut into the game for the tourneys that don't have a cut.

I know, more work for Guru. It would be a fun, low-maintenance way to keep playing though.

I enjoy GG and would want to play as extended a season as possible. But, playing through the last full field no cut event, the Deutsche Bank Championship, may work best. That would be my vote if GG makes no rule changes.

Balrog's post season mini-game sounds interesting, but agreed it is more work for Guru.

If we are throwing out brainstorm ideas...

One twist that could make the game intereting if it is decided that the season would go through the last two small field no cut events, would be to continue the season through those events but not add any trades to each roster after the Wyndham. Or alternately playing through the last 3 tournaments but not allowing any roster moves after our Wyndham lineup was set.

If no new trades were allow to accrue but the game allowed us to still make weekly trades, we'd have to live with the last 3 tourneys with any trades we conserved.

If trading was locked with the 3 toruneys left to play, we would be to have to live with the same roster for the last 3 weeks, in effect making these contests have a cut in GG terms.

My preference would be the last tournament with a cut.

I would vote for Deutsche Bank Championship (Sept 7)

I'm now considering continuing through the Tour Championship, except that for each of the final two events, you get only one trade per week, with no extra trade buying.

This effectively adds a cut-like element to the final two events, and lets the season run to the logical conclusion.

The biggest downside, from my perspective, is that this continues the season several weeks into the NFL season. But those last two tournaments would be low maintenance, presumably.
