sure would be nice to read a thread without people complaining again about having to pay. We all knew this game was going to be a pay game this year. Just win a division and win your money back and then some.

Is it 4 or 5 weekly trades?

Funny, but nearly 1/5 of the United States is ineligable for prizes. Very surprising to me.

I downloaded the draft spreadsheet and noticed that the prices for players seemed to be way higher than last year. For example, Iginla starts at $11 million and I counted 36 players with over an $8 million price tag. Does anyone know if the prices always start this high, or is this something new, or is it just me?

Cuz, the games rules says:
Trades - Once the season starts, you will be given five trades every Wednesday at 12PM ET, which you can accumulate and execute during the season. Selling a player counts as a trade; buying a player does not.

All I did was follow the link posted up top and on that page it stated that this year 4 trades/week during the season. When I clicked on the link 'Click here for more on how to play' it took me to last years game rules. So maybe they changed it for this year. Or maybe I am confused.

Cuz, the prices do look relatively high, but i remember also thinking that last year. The high-priced players are generally over-priced and the good deals show themselves in teh first couple of weeks.

Eric - it looks like the link you provided is pointing to last years rules. If you click on the prizes link and then click on "how to play" you'll get this years rules. Also, under "how long is the season" it states that the season goes from the first kickoff to the last play from scrimmage, not exactly appropriate for hockey. It should be more like from the opening faceoff to the last teeth-shattering mid-ice collision.

Prices seem to be adjusted according to total tsnp, whereas per game seems to be taken less into consideration.
Might want to look at players that were injured last year then...

PFB, I'm like your worst nightmare, cuz as long as I'm on the boards, I'll complain.

And by excluding a big chunk of the USA (and Quebec as usual) from prize eligibility, I'm sure their residents are having a problem with TSN as well.

TLW, it's not like it is TSN's decision to exclude people. Those states (and province) have laws regarding receiving prizes of this sort which would leave TSN in a very difficult position. Some states have regulations which would regulate TSN as a gaming entity because it both charges an entry fee and awards prizes based upon the outcome, and the only way they can operate in some states (like North Dakota, for example, under Public Law 53-11-02: "A sponsor may not require a person to pay the sponsor money as a condition of awarding the person a prize...") is to either waive the entry fee or waive the prize eligibility.

If residents of those states and Quebec have a problem with the fact that their state's laws make it impossible for TSN to award them a prize, the proper recourse is for them to complain to their elected representatives to change the law.

pd - how come different companies that charge a fee to play their games exclude different states? For example tnafantasysports (football) excludes CT but TSN does not.

It all boils down to how the business (and that particular activity) are regulated in that state. And all the states (and provinces) are different. Most states allow prizes to be awarded provided that 1. The prizes are as described and are actually awarded 2. A list of award winners is kept on file and given to anyone who asks 3. A prize award is not conditional upon other, unrelated products or services being purchased.

Some states are tougher. I've heard Vermont is very tough for games (and in particular on-line games) for some reason but I've never read their statutes on it. Connecticut used to have laws regarding the awarding of prizes by companies which are not registered in the state or have no offices there.

And in some cases I'm sure that the companies that award the prizes just find it easier to exclude certain states from eligibility simply because they don't want to bother with what might be very simple requirements by the state (such as filling out a form and sending it in with a small registration fee).

What Perm Dude said is true.

Is the trade situation clear now? Or do we need to clarify?

Erik B.

Trade situation still unclear.

In the login page:
4 trades per week during the season

In the "Click here for more how to play" page

When do I get new trades?

After the first Roster Freeze of the season (Wednesday, October 9th at 7pm EST), the unlimited trading period ends, and you start the season with 5 trades in your account. Every Wednesday at 12pm EST (starting on Wednesday, October 16), your team will be awarded 5 more trades.

Roster Freeze

"... If your team is missing even 1 player, your entire team will not score. You will earn 0 points for any players that don't play/have a bye week, but the rest of your roster will still earn points."

What's a bye week in the NHL?

P.S.: ... players who, not players that.

question regarding the 40 bucks + t-shirt if you win division .

what is the minimum amount of teams required in a division in order to justify a 40 dollar prize ?

wouldnt it be wiser to join an auto division which might be full of stool pigeons , then you can win the division cash ?

1 month later on the login page
5 trades per week during the season

Izbiztuh: You need a minimum of 10 pigeons, including yourself, to win division cash.

Silly question: Is there a way to be sure I will be in a 10 teams division at the start of the season? What happens if everybody move just before the freeze?

With this kind of prize rules, who would want to have friends (unless they're pigeons) in the same division?

TLW, I bought 3 teams for 35$ US, and will put two in pigeon auto-divisions. The 3rd I'm going to put in a divsion with either Gurupies or some buddies from work. (Who are probably pigeons anyway, but for the sake of arguement lets say they're not.) I'm leading my pigeon baseball auto-division, and I'd like to think my hockey skills are on par with my baseball skills. So if I can win my two auto-divisions, I'll have made a profit... and I'll still be able to play with my friends.

From the game rules

How do trades work?
After the first Roster Freeze of the season (Wednesday, October 9th at 7pm EST), each time you sell a trade from your roster, a trade is deducted. Buying a player to fill an open spot does not count as a trade. If you do not use up all of your 5 trades, the remaining trades will carry over into the next week.

So it looks like we're getting 4 trades per week, eh?
