Subject: Goalies for Turco

I am looking at the Turco slot on my teams, as Dallas takes their mid-season holiday next week, and am wondering who other owners will be using in his place. Jose Theodore will be facing a lot of low scoring teams, but his salary is still too high for me. I like Denis, Cloutier, Thibault, and Lalime; I guess I will be spreading these guys out over my three teams. Is there any consensus out there for a particular goalie? |

Thanks for posing this question. I, for one, have no answers at this time. I am looking at a similar list, but it means that I have to reduce the money I have to spend on my wingers. I would love to hear from the other sages on this board.

I might beat the train and get out before the Chicago game.

I would certainly not trade Turco before the Chicago game as I see that being a possible shutout for Turco. Colorado, with the way they're playing, that's another thing. I may move after the Chicago game.
I already have Lalime on two teams and would also likely move to either Brodeur, Kolzig, Cloutier or Johnson (no particular order here).

Upon further review, I rank order my list of Turco replacements as follows:
Kolzig, Brodeur, Cloutier and Johnson. I might swap Cloutier and Brodeur based on Cloutier's more affordable price, but I think Martin will get 5 starts to Dan's 3 or 4 max during "my" Turco vacation (1-10 to 1-17).

I plan to hold Turco until the Col game 1/11, trade him, and get him back 1/18 because more than likely he will gain in RV at that time.
Several Goalies can possibly play 3 games from 1/12-1/17. Thibault is the only one who could play 4, but 2 are vs Det & 1 vs Vancouver.
I am leaning towards Belfour (vs NYR, Cal & Wash) or Cloutier (vs Nash, Min & Chic). I'll have to wait to see what injured Leafs are back before going to Belfour. I like Brodeur, but if I decide to go to him, I would do it 1/10. I would have to downgrade elsewhere to afford Brodeur (Lalime->Vukoun/Hedberg/Weekes?). Just goes to show the importance of building roster value . . .another $1M & I could do a straight Turco->Brodeur 1/10 and potentially get 5 games (Fla x 2, Tampa, Car, NYI) before re-acquiring Turco.
Also . . if Turco plays in LA & Chic, it may be Tugnutt starting in Col.

I am planning on going Turco -> Brodeur on 1/10. I'll need to free up a couple million to make the move. I'll pick up Schastlivy if he continues to play with Alfredsson and White on the power play. Otherwise, I think I'll downgrade Lalime to Ryan Miller or Luongo.

After reviewing my other moves for the day, it will be a close call for me between Broduer and Kolzig... I'd like to also go Guerin -> Nasland and will be really close on dollars if I go to Brody, while with Kolzig, I'll have cash to spare....

bookie, emailing you now with more insights. Yes, Olaf is a good alternative to Marty.

I especially like the fact that Washington is off for four days before Kolzig's next game on the 10th, so his price should fall until then. I have decided to put Kolzig in my Turco slot, and will then decide between the two goaltenders on each team who gets bumped for Turco.

Why do you guys like Kolzig? There are better goalies on better teams out there, say Thibault, Cloutier and Johnson.

More games (and 4 of the 5 at home) during the Turco less period... I'd be going right back to Turco as soon as his midseason break is over....

TLW: Washington is HOT, they are good at home, they have many home games coming up, and Kolzig plays virtually every game.

Anyone thinking of Turek after the Ottawa game. Calgary's been hot and he'll play most if not all of his teams games too.

Food for thought: Now that Mario isn't playing against Toronto tomorrow, does anyone like Turco => Belfour tomorrow? His absence puts a serious dent in Pit's offense.

I like Belfour at Pittsburgh today, too, B-Train, but Dallas is 13-1 at home. Hard to move Turco with a home game going tonight (watch, Tugnutt will start). Plus, Pittsburgh is 11-6 at home and Toronto is 6-8 on the road. Finally, Chicago, Dallas's opponent, is 7-8 on the road. Playing the percentages, I will hold for now.

I picked up Johnson. Wanted to go with Belfour but I couldn't afford him.
