Does this mean that they will rely on Shields as their number 1? I don't know who else they would use...

First Dafoe and Guerin and now Grahame? Does BOS plan on winning a Cup anytime soon or do they just plan on continuing to shoot themselves in the foot?

They should have resigned Dafoe and Guerin after last season and kept Grahame as they're #1-in-training (like Turco in years past).

Shields to start in net

Steve Shields (left) will start his third consecutive game tonight in net against the high-flying Pittsburgh Penguins. Andrew Raycroft was called up from Providence to backup Shields, as John Grahame was traded today to Tampa Bay for a fourth round draft pick in the 2004 Draft

Now when Thornton returns, Shields seems like a pretty good cheap goalie choice.

Cheap, but not been performing too well this year.

18 games played
37 TSNP/Game
GAA = 2.70
Save % = 90.2%
0 shutouts

Good team, cheap goalie though -- could be a great choice IF (and when) the Bruins get it (winning and defense) back together again.

This trade makes me think the Bruins are close to trading away McLaren for a few players which will include a goaltender.

oh man, tell me they aren't going to put Raycroft back in net. That guy was brutal two years ago. Unless he improved a lot, he is no where close to NHL material.

Of all the teams in the league, why Tampa? Khabibulin is one of the only goalies who can play back-to-back.. Only 4 goalies have played more games than him last year..

Synergy, according to Rotoworld, it looks more like BOS's GM is looking for payoff from Shields and his $2M contract. I wouldn't expect to see much of Raycroft this go-around.

Ira, TAM wasn't looking for a #1B, they were just looking for a solid backup option. Grahame as a backup is far better than Kevin Hodson (0-3-1 in 7 games) and allows TAM to bring along Evgeny Konstantinov at their leisure.

Besides, it's not like giving up a 4th rounder is a huge deal. BOS might as well have just given Grahame to TAM for nothing. At least then the trade would be exactly what everyone is thinking. :)

Grahame was drafted in the 9th round, so I suppose the Bruins gained a few rounds from this.

I know I know, I'm supposed to count things this way.......

But what can be better than the Blues and Esa Tikkanen a few years ago? They got him from the Devils in 1996 for a third round pick, and then traded him to the Canucks a few weeks after that for a second rounder. Now that was funny.
