Why is it a sad thing? Do you know that a lot of companies in the world are split into shares and are owned by more than one person? If it's not sad when your local telephone company is owned by its shareholders, why is it sad when an investment group tries to raise money to buy the Senators? This is exactly how business works, Ira. Not many people own 100% of a big company anymore, especially when all you need is 50.1% of the shares in order to make most of the decisions.

It's sad because shares of a sports team are rarely sold openly like this.

I knew the Indians did a stock-sale a few years ago, I did a little search and was surprised to find that only the Indians, Celtics, & Orlando Predators (what sport is that?) are openly traded.
Is this true?

Thanks KKB. I was thinking WNBA but then I thought, no, Predator is too mean a name for a girl.

The Green Bay Packers are also Publically owned, however it's virtually impossible to buy any shares.
