Considering that MON already had a #1 guy in Theodore, I can't see how BOS, or any other team, would have been willing to give up much more. MON forced their own hand last season and now every team in the NHL knew they were just showcasing Hackett anytime he played and that MON was just looking to get something for him. This does signify that BOS has lost ALL confidence in Shields. Starting Raycroft so much was already a signal, but now they have a true #1 in town and Shields can kiss any playing time he was hoping for goodbye.

Oh yeah, just heard on the Intermission Report that Hackett is a FA at the end of the year. Makes it pretty difficult for MON to get much for him as a result of that combined with already having Theo in net.

Montreal also got a 3rd round pick, but it still isn't much. I'm still holding out hope that Andre Savard just made this deal to clear payroll, and has another deal in the works that will use that free'd up money.
