With 2 games in the next seven games, I would think that the boston players might drop today !

I expect Hackett and Thornton to be widely sold and Murray to also take a bit of a price hit. Goalie money will most likely flow into Turco and Brodeur depending on the cash available to each manager. I traded these three Bruins.

Whoops - I guess I just thought of trading Hackett - I see he's still on my squads.

I got convinced by Richard, I traded Thornton for Niewendyke, and Hackett for Kolzig....

My original plan was to swap out of my Boston players after the game on Saturday the 8th. However, I realized that I was going to be out of town and computerless until late Sunday night so, I did the trades a game earlier than my original plan. I hope Thornton and Murray don't have a combined 200 pt game on Saturday. I sure hate missing many of their games.

With Dallas playing back to back this wkd, Turco may only get the same number of starts as Hacket next week.
Hackett -> Storr (4 starts next 7 days) may be the way to go, if you are planning to go back to Hackett when his sched improves.

They're playing Pittsburgh tomorrow, the way the Pens are playing it might be best to hold dumping the Bruins till Sunday...

As for Turco, he has 2 games in 7 days starting Wednesday. I wonder if he'll play both games of the back-to-back this weekend; otherwise Hackett->Turco isn't worth it pointwise, though may still be moneywise, probably lots of people aren't aware of that schedule hole or else will move out of Turco then.

Another candidate for a big drop today - Mario.
No games Sunday-Tuesday and Pens are struggling.
I don't expect him to get 29 PIMs every game...

I can't see Mario being the big looser today, cause he's not widely owned, compare to Thornton....

Tuques - where do you get ownership stats from? Thanks.

I don't have any ownership stats, I just use the fact that he didn't gain much money since he's back so he can't loose much, maybe 100K, but I'm expecting Thornton and Hackett to be the biggest looser today like Richard said...

Tuques - you turned out right on Lemieux and Hackett, wrong on Thornton. I'm guessing people sold Hackett for Turco, but there isn't an obvious replacement for Thornton, or else people are waiting till Sunday to dump him.

wow, one of the few times I've ever see Richard miss one!

Thornton only -20K. I got scared and dumped him instead of Lindros for Forsberg. Oh well, you cant win em all.

Thanks Richard ;)

I wonder if they forgot to reset the pricing formula, like they did after last year's all-star break.

And I'm gonna claim the honour again. It was me who figured out that they forgot to reset the pricing formula. ;-)

It was real funny this time last year...

Walk, looks like your conscience was wrong on the Thornton drop.. only 20K unbelievable.. More people decided to hold than I expected.. Our only hope for redemption now is for Modano to Outpoint Joey T tommorrow night... Go Stars....... ;->

Oh fret not, bookie. The trade was less about money than points. More games for Modano in the short-term; money is a side-bet at this stage.

What do you mean by "they forgot to reset the pricing formula"?

I don't think there is a problem, and certainly not what happened last year. This year the table_id used for the last day of price changes (pre-break) was 21, the first day after the break was 22. All trades were consumated on the equivalent of one long day.

For those of us who kept Thornton for his Saturday game, to whom do we jump? I am looking at Nieuwendyk for his 3 in 4; are there any other options?

Thanks TLW I was hoping someone will notice my good choice, especially cause the majority seems to go with Brodeur from Hackett, I heard yesterday that NYI have all sort of problem againts WAS.... I can't wait to see super Mario bomb on Hackett this afternoon, cause I hold Mario after a fight he will be verry angry for some pts....

Me too Tuques! Mario will be great differentiation for today, hopefully. He becomes Forsberg tommorrow, though.

I was so scared of the Boston guys with this thread that I went Hackett > Turco and Thornton > Koivu. That's right, Koivu, good short term sked is all I wanted, yet he dropped more than Thornton yesterday.

Oh well,
smallwhirled

BTW, you guys see ANY short term goalies. I looked, and I can't find anyone. Only need a guy for 6 days, no limit on what I can spend. Thanks in advance...boy it's tough picking goalies.

I don't understand why Bos has that bad of a schedule. If you want to save trades (and that seems to be a goal of most people) then Bos plays 4-3-4-4! That seems pretty solid. Some breaks in there with 2 day layoffs and stuff I know, but long term aren't they good holds? What am I missing other than people using trades to get money whereas I'll still make points because of their schedule and get the points right back when people jump back on. I've talked about the same dilemma in the Igy thread. Money/points/trades? What is the better one and explain please!!

Ace,

Hockey managers are intelligent. People have trades already in the bank, too. 1 in 5's are not good enough for studs, period. People have already planned ways around those situations and will stick to them. You save trades by holding, and should get your RV back, but it's all about timing. When you are saving trades others are spending tem like crazy, it all depends on the particular team.

I went to Roy, tough teams, but hot...time to gamble.

If you are in it for the money gain then yeah you can go back and forth between studs. What you see Ace is a good sked in terms of # of games but not a good layout with 2 days in between some games. My point is that if you do see a good # of games coming up for a team like Boston then don't worry about the money, worry about just getting the guy and holding him. You may see his RV fluctuate but you should'nt lose any money. People will be picking up then dropping then picking up then dropping and so on while you bank trades. Now is the time to worry about points not roster value. Your roster value should have already been accumulated by now. As for basic season 2, go with the good sked since you only get 2 trades a week. Roster value is important in Basic Season 2 but it does only last 2 more months.

Ace . . IMO . . unless you are trade deficient, you shouldn't sit with an $8M player who is playing 1 game in 5 days when you can get 3 games from another top player. Going Thornton->Forsberg on Sunday and getting Thornton back Friday (by selling Forsberg or someone else) gets you 126 TSNP vs 52 (based on averages) and probably $300k RV increase.

You can hold cheaper players through blips in their schedule because trading to get 2 extra games from a $2M player isn't usually as lucrative . . but over the long run, having $8M sit idle for 4 days out of 5 doesn't pay off.

Thanks for the advice guys....I'm aware of the saving of trades for Ultimate because I am in basketball as well. I am only in the basic for hockey so this is all about season 2 and only 2 trades. I looked at long term holds for the moment to get trades banked early or jump to someone for the cash gains if it looks obvious. I guess my question was worded badly. If you are in basic 2 and it is early in the season, would you trade out of thornton right now or no?
