Subject: Turco Thoughts

- [448382418] Mon, Feb 10, 2003, 16:25
I'm debating with myself on what, if anything to do with Turco for his pending 2 games in 7 days.... In that period, WAS has 4 games (all on the road), Ott has 4 (Lalime will probably only play 3) St. Louis has 3 (all at home)...
The more I ponder the more I think I'll just hold for Turco's two home games and take my lumps on any price hits... He'll surely gain any losses back starting the 19th when the Dallas schedule picks up again....
Anyone else pondering a move or a hold? |

hmmmm, interesting, lets see, here's Turco's sched
— — ANA — SAN — —
No team plays more than 4 gms in those 7 days, and the teams with 4 all have a b2b in there. so trading 2 Turco games for what is probably 3 starts for any other goalie is probably not gonna be worth the trade.
What about more than 1 trade, go to Lalime on Weds for his b2b (@Pit, Edm) then move on to Kolzig (@Car, @Fla,—,@TB) So 2 trades can possible get you 3 extra games, but there's also 2 b2b's involved there, so there's a chance you'd only get 1 extra game. Tough call, I'll probably hold Turco.

I'm not into the multiple trade scenerio, especially in goal. It's already two trades in order to get out of him and then to get him back. I'm still thinking hold....

Last time a thread was made, we bailed and Thornton lost nothing.
If it turns ugly and it looks like free money I'll waste two trades. If not, I'll hold.

This isn't skipping 1 Turco game though, its skipping two. Turco is the best player in the game right now (TSN Game I mean) and so any other goalie would have to play at least 4 games to beat what he can do in 2. (3 games just isn't enough to justify the trade IMHO.) Also, Turco is still cheap compared to other goalies. This hypothetical 4-game goalie would also have to be in the Turco price-range for me to jump. I'll pass...

Manny is back and they're rotating starts, so that wouldn't have done much good. Its pretty safe to say that, barring injury or a trade, no one should get a Minnesota goalie anymore. But, both those guys are pretty damn good!

new plan, Turco left today's game with an ankle injury, I'm dumping him for Giguere.
Still have Brodeur for tomorrow's game (even though I think he'll sit). Then I just have to find a goalie for Brodeur. Probably a significantly cheaper one since I need to free up money for 3HM.

Same here. Turco is gone for Giguere. Just don't want to take the $ hit right now and it definately makes it easier dumping him with only 2 games in the next 7 days.

Thought I would post Anaheim's sked since I already did the same in Ultimate. Looks good no?With the exception of the Dallas match-up which may be Turcoless I think it's pretty easy. Makes J.S. Gig a good hold since he starts almost all of the games for a hot Anaheim team. It goes like this:
7-day Schedule 02/12 CGY 02/13 — 02/14 @DAL 02/15 @NAS 02/16 — 02/17 NYI 02/18 — 14-day Schedule 02/19 CBJ 02/20 — 02/21 NYR 02/22 — 02/23 @CAR 02/24 — 02/25 @TAM 21-day Schedule 02/26 @FLA 02/27 — 02/28 @PHO 03/01 — 03/02 ATL 03/03 — 03/04 @LOS

That's very interesting. A 4-4-4 schedule with DAL as the only threat.
Thanks for the heads up. But Roy has just beat DET twice and tonight NJ. I'll probably hold him a little longer.

The only problem for me is that I planned on going Brodeur=> Guigere. If Turco has a bum wheel, I might have to pick up Hackett too. I need the Brodeur money elsewhere, so I can't pick up another stud. Any word on how bad Turco's ankle is?

Count me in with the huddled masses of managers who are going Turco -> Giguere today. Turco's price is going to get hammered. Unfortunately, since I'm cronically short of trades, I have to to this with my last trade instead of picking Mario. I'll have to wait until after trades are refreshed to pick Mario up.

I'm getting bumb today, cause I don't have any trade left, and yesterday I did the stupid move of going Kolzig to Hachett with my last trade, I just hope that Turco situation isn't that bad and he'll play in the next game..... The Bruins can't score, I just hope the find the net on their road trip cause I'm going to stay with Hackett cause I need the money for upgrading my Center......

Already had gigure. I wish I had more money, I need to find a cheapy to get rid of langenbruner. I have been away from my team and its been hard to make money lately. Been roaming at 65million for quite sometime.

My main reason is this: One the morning of the 14th, here's how those two players stand:
Hejduk: Two games in 6 days, Home against Min and on the road against Chi. Both teams are top 6 defenses.
Murray: Four games in 6 days. (all on the road) Florida (26th in GAA), Tampa (22nd), Nashville Tied 15th, surpised) and Carolina (23rd.). Both Tampa and Carolina have been even worse than their rank would indicate.

I went with Modin. I will lose money on him but I thought I would differentiate, plus Modin has been doing well lately and according to the offensive schedule the Bolts have a good chance to score some goals in the next 2 weeks.

Rogue Nine - I don't expect more than another day or so of big losses for Turco. A couple of days ago he was on about 63% of the teams. As of today's roster freeze, he's only on 30% of the teams. I'm not sure what his minimum ownership level is, but over half of the manager's who owned him have already shed him. Most of the rest will do it soon - once that happens there will be no more downward pressure on his price and his price drops will slow dramatically. I can't see him losing almost another million dollars in order to reach the $3.5 million level you are hoping for.

I'm a dumbass who gets influenced by J sometimes. I hope it works out, I'm still not buying into Hackett just yet. If it's not the right choice, I'll move into Hackett eventually, doesn't hurt when you've got some trades to spare.

Pancho Villa - like J says, you look at a whole bunch of frozen rosters. Over the years, I've developed an Excel spreadsheet process that make sampling a number of frozen rosters fairly easy. I even taught the techniques on this message board about three or four years ago for the SW baseball season.
This year for the TSN Ultimate Hockey game I'm running a sample of 328 randomly selected teams. I don't run it each and every day because it is fairly time consuming - even with a fast internet connection. By sampling these teams, I can count up the number of manager's who own each player and determine an approximate ownership level. I say approximate because I'm not looking at each and every frozen roster but, rather, I look at what I hope is a statistically significant number of managers and a representative sample.

In unrelated news (but I don't want to start a thread), my hometown Canucks came back to beat the Avs in overtime. I was cheering for a few seconds before I realized that I have Roy on all three of my TSN basic teams. Should I still be happy???????

While that OT goal by Morrison did bring juvilation to the Canuck fan in me, it still cost me a potential 70 TSNP :(

I know that making trades after I've been out drinking a bit is probably a bad idea, but I did it anyway. Here's my moves for today:
Hejduk (2 in 6) -> Murray (4 in 6) Koivu (1 in 4) -> Lang (3 in 4) Storr (2 in 6) -> Hackett (4 in 6)
Short-term moves, but should pay off I think. Murray/Knuble -> Hejduk/Tanguay next week to get Colorado's 4 in 6, and Lang has 4 games next week too.

DAL 3/14/2003 Turco's ankle has improved a bit recently, the Dallas Morning News reports. "He's getting some more motion and is definitely further ahead," coach Dave Tippett said. "But is he far enough along to try it [in practice]? We don't want any setbacks."
