If you are in Auto Divisions, sometimes whether you do well or not depends on the luck of the draw. I have good players in all my Divisions, but luckily, none who are in the top 50.

With about 6 weeks to go I'm leading my 3 divisions by 800, 1100 & 1400 TSNP. However, in each one, my closest competetor has more RV and more trades than I do so I expect the races to tighten up as the season plays out.

My closest competitor is 1800 points behind and ranked 986 overall. I have more trades then him as well. I think I got the luck of the draw but at the same time I think I lack the intensity and focus because of it. I wish I had more fierce competition to force me to stay on top of my game. This is my first year playing Ultimate and after a sluggish start (over 2000 overall) I've come up into the 200's. Here's to climbing!!! I was actually in 22nd place in my division at one time!!

I'm about 600 points behind the first place guy in my division, who was 10th overall at one point, but now is around 30th. He's also got the lowest RV in the top 100, and I hope I can use that factor to my advantage. (+15 Million!) I have already made up 1600 points on him and hope to close the gap within the next two weeks. He does have a trade advantage on me, though.

I'm in "Eat, Sleep, Drink" .... So technically my division race ended before the season began ;-)

After a horrid start to the season where it seemed anyone and everyone i picked underproduced or suddenly hit cold streaks , i've somehow managed to make ground from 2500+ WWR in late Nov to about 500 WWR today. Not as good as i had hoped for this late in the season, but again, you had to have been there to appreciate the climb. It was really getting ridiculous towards the end of November.

I got screwed from the beginning when 2 of my teams got put into the same auto division. The teams were created after the deadline to change divisions because of the site problems before opening night. My team ranked #21 overall has a 2775 point lead. My team ranked #200 overall is behind the division leader by 558 points. Pretty amazing considering it was behind by 1200 a little over a week ago. A few shutouts and a couple nice games by Boyle has helped close the gap in a hurry.

I've had a somewhat disappointing year, recently rallying from around the 500s to get up around 250, but it has meant a very close divisional race most of the year. I've recently started pulling ahead in that, and just put my lead there over 1000 points, with the advantage in trades and RV as well.

Anyone going with a late team in any other TSN game needs to purchase the team the morning that they start. You will definitely be paired with late teams this way...and most competitive managers don't do late teams. I bought my hoops team 2 days late, so I got included with later teams and have a commanding lead. I bought my hockey team a week late, and I got included with all the several day late or week late teams. It has turned into commanding leads in both sports.

Not like J, who bought his teams early but started late.....and now is in very tough divisions.

3500 SWP lead and 13 more mil in a cakewalk.

I don't think I could get to the top of the Eat, Sleep, Drink NHL division, I'm now 7th, I'm moving around 5 to 9 since a couple of month... I had a bad start with a bunch of injury in the first week, then I move my way up slowly.... My goal would be to finish 5 in the division, wich is verry competitive but to be honest I didn't tought I would be there at all in the begenning... If I finish in the top 10 of the division I'll be happy with this...

Both my top 2 teams are in very tight division races, the first team being in the Eat, Sleep, Drink NHL division. After a great start, I've definitely fallen quite a bit, and am barely holding on. Currently 2nd and with 15 trades, I think I have a fairly good shot at the division title, but there are plenty of other managers that are worthy, and it should be a very close and exciting race down the stretch!

My B team is currently 93rd, and in an auto division but 4th in the division, just over 1000 points behind the leader Die_Habs. I have 20 trades, which amounts to a 10 trade advantage, so I'm hoping I can use each one wisely. This division should be a lot of fun down the stretch as well, with any of the top 4 managers having a shot of winning.

I find myself in two tight races and one impossible situation. My Foxglove Hunters team had the unfortune to be placed in an auto division in which I'm chasing a team that has been in the top ten most of the year. I've got a good roster value advantage but I'm 1,600 points behind. I won't get there before the end of the season.

My Kern River Flyfishers team is in a neck and neck race with a team that has more hockey knowledge and better luck than my team has but I have the advantage of more roster value ($11 million more). I've been waiting for a month for my roster value to overcome hockey knowledge and luck but so far I haven't been able to put away this stubborn competitor. Doesn't he know he supposed to roll over and play dead at this time of the season;-)

My best team (or perhaps luckiest team), ChevronTexaco Stars, is hanging near the top of the ultra competitive Eat, Sleep, Drink NHL Division. Due to a serious lack of trades I doubt I be there by season's end but it's been fun for a while now.

Oooooooooo, good thread. For a change, I can breathe easy right now. After going down to the last month in baseball on two teams in two autodivisions, and having a very tight, tough first 40 games this year in an auto-division, I have pulled away from my competition and am 2,000 TSN ahead in first (this team is currently ranked around 80) with about $14MM more in frachise value. My rivals have far more trades, but that is because, I think, they are not playing as actively as they once were.

My other team, managed by bookie (I am the Steinbrenner and he is my Jeter, ha!), is ranked 36th and is also like 2,500 TSN ahead of the 2nd place dude. Bookie, whom I turned onto hockey last year, is now a hockey pro (but he cannot spell for sheet), and is making a run for the top 10. If this team were in the Eat, Sleep, Drink NHL league, he would be neck and neck with Sir Richard, Lord of the Re-Pricings.

My team in the Eat, Sleep, Drink NHL division, the exalted grand poohbah TSN division, now comfy in first place as a division, is ranked 6th, overall about 116. I am about 900 behind Richard and do not see taking this division this year. As the reigning message board division champ, I see that the competition is just too good!

Richard is in good shape money-wise, but Dan clearly has the edge, IMHO, and is therefore my bet (not going out on a big limb here) to win this division. Excellent trade management (15 trades!) coupled with a franchise only $4MM less than Richard puts him in great shape.

I love this game, and have always said, since I first placed TSN Hockey 5 years ago, that hockey is their strongest game -- so many factors contribute to the scoring. It's very challenging.

It is very interesting to read how other sage managers have (un)lucked(?) into auto-divisions with stud rivals, either fellow gurupies or elite mystery managers (probably special forces from Iraq or North Korea -- might as well bomb them for this!). Good luck in your races. Richard, I see you might have to have some serious R&R after this season -- 3 races!

OT: Current and immediately pressing decision time: But what to do with HEJDUK today? That question is pressing me right now, right in a nerve in the C5 section of my spine!

cheers,

Walk - turn Hejduk into Kariya, you'll make some short-term money.

Yeah, thanks Richard. I have targeted Kariya and Mogilny on my teams. I, like, you, do not have the luxury of trades in the bank and would love not to make this move. We need some trades in the account in the last two weeks of the season to keep up with the savvy Dan's of the (small)world who do (and will day-trade). So, while money is not the prime motivator, points is, and ultimately, both are key here. NO way does Milan play tonight in my book given he just got hurt and has a bad history with this type of injury.

Given that, it makes sense to move Hejduk now for Kariya (or Molgilny).

thx Richard,

Durham Irish Red is at 56 today, but second to Little M by 200 points. Should be neck and neck the rest of the way.

Clemson Irish Red is at 364, and is rising. I am in third by 1700 points, but have an $8 million RV advantage. Might get close to winning this division.

Penn Yan Irish Red is at 153, and in first by 250 points, with RV advantage of $3.5 million. Also have 5 extra trades. Feel pretty good about this team's ability to win the division.

My goal at the beinning of the year was to win two divisions and get a team into the top 50; looks like I might make that goal!

Its nice to be way out in front in a division, but it does take away some of the excitement down the stretch.
In last year's Ultimate Baseball, I had 3 teams. One that was 2nd in the Division going into the last day and caught #1 to win. Another that was 1st going into the last day and got passed to finish 2nd. I would venture a guess that the odds of that happening on 2 out of 3 teams on the last day of a long season are very, very slim.

The entertainment value of the hard fought last couple of weeks was almost worth the $50 I lost by losing the division.

Oh . . .and I should mention for those who did'nt do Baseball . . . Smallword was in 1st or 2nd overall most of the last month and was kind enough to post his team on Guru's message board so we could follow his run for top prize. That added to the entertainment value for me as well.

yeah, I've been in a tough uphill climb all year.

I was as far out as 2000pts. Got as close as 350, now I'm around 500pts back. The guy leading my division is in the top 100 and has 2 other teams also in the top 100 (JTuck). I've got about 5 more trades and about 3mil more. Its gonna be tough, but it should be a fun stretch run!

My team has been on top of my division most of the year. I was in first place, up around 500 points, and ranked around 120ish overall going into the New Year break. Due to work issues and a few bad picks, by the time I got back to my team around the 5th of Jan, I was in second place and my opponant moved to 35th overall. Kudos to InDaCrease if he reads these boards. I have about 800 points to gain (good luck) but it ain't over yet.

My first auto-divison team is about 1200 TSNP and 4 million ahead of 2nd. Most teams have given up hope of catching me, so this should be my team that lets me break even.

My 2nd team is in the vaunted Eat, Sleep, Drink NHL division, and sitting in 5th currently. (Like Tuques, I sway from 5th to 9th pretty often.) I'm about 800 TSNP behind Richard's team, and 4 million behind. (My trade advantage stands at 1 right now. ;) Needless to say, this is probably a lost cause. But I'll definitely be trying.

My 3rd team is also in an auto-division. I've been neck and neck with a team called Black and Blue, who despite a serious roster value disadvantage has stuck with me all year. He's ahead of me by 54 TSNP (we're tied really) and I have an 8 million cash advantage. We pretty much use our trades actively, and his trade advantage of 5 to 3 usually fluxuates to the point where this isn't an issue. Should be a great race to the end.
